Most people use popsicle sticks but you're never supposed to mix with your brush and it could've been what she had on hand

Black can be made by mixing primary colours. The amount of each colour will have to be adjusted slightly depending on the quality of the paint and the pigmentation, but it's usually an equal measurement. Magenta, cyan and yellow will give good result, but the easy way to obtain a rich black is by mixing quinacridone magenta, pthalo blue and hansa yellow. As an artist, you need to work more on your colour theory studies.

"Red + Green = Crimson" **Me believing my whole life that Red and green makes brown** :0
It does make brown depending on the amount of each color, if you add just a little bit of green to a bunch of red however you'll get a toned down red, same for opposite. The crimson thing was edited, there's no way mixing a light red and a light green woulc create a vibrant, dark crimson.

1 red : 1 green => brown
1 red : 2 green => olive brown
2 red : 1 green => auburn brown
Depending if you want it to be _maroon,_ then you increase the ratio of red in the mixture. If you want the colour to be deeper/darker, add one little drop of blue. It's all about playing with the concentration & ratio.
