  • Once upon a time, there were two Punisher movies, and neither was very good. These are the sins of one of them.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

The movie had problems but still was amazing. The fact that the punisher actually PUNISHED his victims , think about it. He stole his money , made him kill his best friend and wife , killed both of his sons , took out his henchman , THAN dragged him through a parking lot on fire. THATS fucking punishment and was enjoyable to see on screen. The punisher in the comics would've just shot Howard Saint in the face point blank. This version was a lot smarter and actually punished him

+thedondon911911 For the record, this draws heavily on an actual comic book series, written by the legendary Garth Ennis, where a lot of the events and characters featured appear (including Harry Heck, The Russian, Bumpo etc). The Punisher "punishing" people is definitely a feature , it may not be in keeping with the more traditional "kill 'em all" mantra of the other series (like "Punisher Max" which inspired the other movie, also written by Ennis) but it's still part of the character. I liked this movie a lot too.

"I'm writing to tell you that I regretfully and painfully had to pull out of [Punisher 2]. I can't tell you how completely broken up I am about it… Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I've always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves. "What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I'll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch."

What I like about Berthanal's portrayal more is how more human he appears. Yes, the common complaint he cries too much is there, but his best performance will always be in season 2 of Daredevil. He's far more black and white, the tone is grittier, and to be honest, the prison fight scene is THE best way to make Punisher a brutal and intimidating threat. "I don't want to fuck with that guy," I thought to myself.
What really hurts the older version of Punisher isn't really the Punisher, but the rest of the characters and the plot of this movie. Sure, you can say that the older movies pioneered the Netflix show, but the Netflix show has side characters and villains that shine just as much as the respective Punishers. Ben Barnes made Jigsaw awesome- despite the more disfigured his face should've been. Hell, Lewis Wilson was a terrifying villain because of the severity of his PTSD and he isn't really a mainvillain in the Punisher's gallery! Because the other characters evenly share the load with Jon and that the Punisher feels more human, I think Netflix is better than this movie or anything later

Still my favorite comic, cuz of the depth of his internal arc written out in his journal.

@@Ogrematic Is that you agreeing or disagreeing? I'm genuinely curious. Quite honestly, I read Punisher Max before I've read War Journals... I enjoyed the former more if you ask me. Garth Ennis transformed Punisher for me.
This iteration makes me understand the character of Frank Castle more. I practice stopmotion and hope to get a channel going with superheroes and what not. The comics are the source material I want to use for the most part. Some characters I use MCU iterations, the DCAU or the comics (pre-crisis or post depending on my narratives' direction) . I also want my characters to have their origin stories be the central
      heartbeat for a character's action.
Yes, Batman's dead parents have been repeatedly beaten into our heads, but what about his actions because of his beliefs? The Punisher lives in a black and white world: you commit a crime, you die. If you don't, you live. It's that simple with no discrimination. But what are some real world/philosophical consequences to this thought process? Daredevil's moral code conflicts this and his actions have rewards and consequences. If Punisher was a villain instead of an anti-hero, he would've probably worked better than the Hand for Daredevil Season 2. Idk, but conflict that has no clear answer draws me in. It puts in a situation where you don't really cheer for any one person.

This movie picked a lot of unexpected stuff from the comics, like the popsicle torture, the Russian (quite accurate fight as well), Mr Bumpo, Joan, the piercing guy (Sparkles or something like that, right?) being interrogated while having his piercings pulled one by one but still not snitching Frank...
What startles me is how they picked the silliest characters they could find in Punisher comics and did them justice but couldn't pick a single villain. I guess Jigsaw could've been too hardcore for what this movie was aiming at (thanks again, dumb Warzone movie), but it's not like he was the only Punisher villain they could use to kill his family. Feels like they only created a new character because John Travolta signed up for it.

By placing your head where the medic does you can clearly see if the patients chest is moving up and down. In those kind of hectic conditions and circumstances where there is a lot going on and there is danger present it’s an efficiently quick way to see if your patient is breathing and / or has a pulse.

The Punisher’s wife overcorrecting the vehicle is forgivable, in my eyes, since she was BEING SHOT AT. I would not expect myself to make perfect reactions in a fast paced, life or death situation.

Do you live in a windowless room illuminated only by a 14" television, a BetaMax VCR, a copy of this movie, and a copy of a Jane Fonda workout tape? Because that would be the ONLY sensible reason that it would be ANYONE'S favorite movie.

Wow, man. Not only is everyone entitled to their own opinion, and everyone's perspective is unique, as well as completely valid in relation to their understanding and experiences, but you went out of your way to attack someone for once admitting they love a film that they even admit isn't perfect. Eleven months before your comment, mind you. I think you might need to take a breath, a chill pill or whatever gets you to calm down, and consider the fact that your opinion is technically only as official or correct as anyone else's, then read up on how empathy and interpersonal communication skills can help you. That is, if you're humble enough to accept that your egocentric views are nothing more than that.

The Popsicle scene is taken directly from the Punisher comics, so it does fit his character. 'Cinema Sins' as usual making big mistakes while laughing at others for slipping up.

+HeartlandRanchTV The video suggests that it isn't something the Punisher would do based on the comics. That is flat out wrong.

Final Flame Productions The sin was that there was no explanation of how he would know about shit like that. Just saying that 'it was in the comics' doesn't excuse the lack of exposition in the film. It's also important to keep in mind that 99.9% of movie-goers don't read the comics.
