That is a cool tool! Thank you for sharing my friend!
It's great, and I've been using it for years, but it also pinches you if you aren't careful. The other thing to consider is visibility. After you get done pushing the brads into the mount, shut off all the lights in the shop, and shine a flashlight on the deer. If you see any shiny reflections, then that means that the brads are showing and that they need to be countersunk. The last thing you want is a guy calling you after he picks up his buck telling you that there are nails showing.
Awesome
Have you ever had a deer ear that you didn't get split all the way to the edge and didn't catch it until the deer was already mounted?
Not yet, but I’m sure it will happen eventually lol
@thecedarridgechronicles I've got one to repair. It's an older mount. I thought you may have a suggestion to reinforce it somehow.
Sorry that name was Sally dames wasco taxidermy I still watch your videos for tips
I've been using that tool for years and the taxidermist that taught me how to paint a cut instead of instead of showing it up was Sally James and she was a very professional taxidermist but I talked to some of the newer ones and they said they would never do that because you can't taxi the skin well you're not supposed to do it anyway until all the skin is taxied in the right spot then you can do it and it makes it beautiful job thanks for the info and telling other people have a great day
Thank you!
They are a great tool I love mine
Is it a huge problem if you forget to neutralize the cape after the pickle and before tanning??? I forgot to do so and have already tanned the cow hide stiff and breaking stages....
I have heard from taxidermists that it is unnecessary. From what I have read, it all depends on what kind of tan you are using. Some tans will not take correctly if the cape is not neutralized, but otherwise I am not sure.
Are the pins temporary while everything is drying or do you leave them?
I leave them. They usually seat very snug and are buried into the hide, but once it is completely dry, I will run my fingers along the spots and feel for any that need removing
Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying 👊🏻
Thin hide and pro 1 glue.....I haven't used pins in a long time
Same here. There really isn’t a need for them with a fleshing machine and Pro 1. I do really wish I had this before I got a fleshing machine though!
That is fantastic!!! How did you think of that method or learn it?
A taxidermist friend of mine who has Grip n Grin Taxidermy told me about it. 👍
Hay bud I been using krow tan for awhile how do you tan your hides or do you send them to a tannery.
Also how did you ever make out with that old fleshing wheel that was donated to you ?
I use pro 1 to tan and the fleshing wheel is awesome!
