    @davidepool5884 Před 2 lety +17

    We used to raise shiner minnows in a specially designed pond. That little pond sat above one of our catfish ponds. One year it overflowed during a torrential rain storm and most of the shiners flowed into our catfish pond. Now that pond is severely overstocked with them. That pond is virtually impossible to fish for catfish because the shiners are so big now. They will overstock your pond within a few years if your bass and other fish can’t keep them in check.

    • @georgejackson4424
      @georgejackson4424 Před 2 lety +1

      I'm kind of shocked , because I would've assumed that the catfish would keep the shiners in check better than they did before they could get too big. Aren't the catfish kind of more nocturnal in their predatory habits? ...or is that just bullheads and the like ?

No matter what he is a very smart little man. That shows how you share and advice him , and the great memories that you are doing. And as for him he’s a sponge for all he’s learning, not like a lot of kids his age that would turn their back on it to play games or just plane get in trouble all the time . So hats off to the both of you great job dad and son .

    remember that Sulcata tortoise needs to be warm this year. You cant leave him outside. he needs to be at least 80 to 85 degrees. Also they love romaine lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, also if his poop is white and powdery he is dehydrated. That pyramiding on his shell comes from not enough calcium and the wrong diet and can be from someone trying to grow them to fast by over feeding. I have 2 of these wonderful tortoises.

      Put a couple of baseball size of slightly bigger plastic hollow balls on the top of the stock pond. This will stop the pond from completely icing over and give you an area to feed your fish simply by removing the ball. Return the ball when finished. Also allows oxygen into the water. Remember when feeding in winter that the colder it is the less they eat

    Toitoses do hibernate, at least the ones kept as pets in the UK always used too. Maybe because the temperature is a lot cooler there over winter but I always remember friends and family who had them as pets would put them in a box inside for the winter and they definitely went into hibernation. Maybe they were a different breed to your guys one but they definitely went into hibernation. Love your vlogs!

    Hi Daniel, I have two large sulcatas tortoises here in the UK. In winter they have a UVB light, a couple of large heat mats and a heat lamp. They come out to eat but not as much as they do in the warmer weather. If their pen is not warm enough they become inactive and could die. If they are not eating at all, it means they not warm enough.
    I’ve had them for 15 years. There is a lot information about sulcatas on the internet because people love them as pets.
