    So, which of these abandoned ships and planes would you like to visit the most? I REALLY want to find out more about the Russian test site :D

    • @ryukomatoi.3440
      @ryukomatoi.3440 Před 7 lety +3

      World Unearthed I don't know a lot about Russian test sites but I do know there are a lot of abandoned test sites out there. I don't really know why the Russians abandon their projects so much and so fast and why they leave the equipment to rust and rot away. It seems to be a waste of money and metal. And it takes up space and they should scrap it for future projects.

      @GerdJanvdG Před 7 lety

      The plane at the testsite from nr.10 is a MiG-19. You weren't far off with the other planes you named though. Also, the plane in the nr.2 scrapyard is an early B-57, go look it up. Pretty cool planes, later models were built with a tandem cockpit like on an F-15.

Penthouse Apts. in Moscow or their vacation bungalows that line the now picturesque small mountain village in Sochi that crazy enough all share a great view of part of the yearly snoozer known as the Formula 1 Grand Prix?

    One of the most depressing abandoned planes is a 1950's YB-36 bomber that was purchased by a reclusive buyer, and left to ruin on his property. The b-36 was built as the 40's era b-2, a long range heavy bomber designed to fly to Europe and back from the continental United States, in the case that hitler conquered europe. Production was stalled as priority was given to b-17's and b29's that could be built in greater numbers and did not require an intercontinental range. However during the cold war the flight range to bomb the USSR was needed, so a full production of 100 aircraft were delivered to compete with the xb-52. Ultimately the b-36 lost due to its inability to fly over SAM threats, slow speed against jet interceptors, unreliable piston engines, and extremely flammable magnesium skin- to name a few flaws. The B-36 remains the largest combat aircraft ever built by the U.S. and only 6 still exist. And if the mostly magnesium aircraft is left to rot in his field, another historic example of my favorite aircraft, will be lost to time. www.johnweeks.com/b36/b36soplata.html Great video!

    • @EnclaveGeneral
      @EnclaveGeneral Před 7 lety +1

      They're still used in the states, as well. California uses them to fight wildfires and transport cargo, and Hawaii has a decent fleet of them for moving cargo across the islands. I've seen them all over the US, as they're used just about everywhere. Such a beautiful aircraft. It was ahead of it's time.

    • @bfitz567
      @bfitz567 Před 7 lety

      Enclave General very durable too... The arctic is an incredibly unforgiving place...and I don't claim to be an aviator, hell, I'm just a crane operator that spends my winters above the treeline, but you don't get much cargo shipped to you if it's not on a C47...

    • @EnclaveGeneral
      @EnclaveGeneral Před 7 lety +1

    Just a guess for the hijacking thing but the 737 is one of the most popular domestic airliners. So more lax security than say, a 747, which is used for way more international flights. I wonder if Airbuses’s A320/A319 (which I believe is their 737 competitor) has a similar stat with the hijacking... but again just a guess

    OK Chief, let me help you out with some information. The aircraft in the salvage yard. No, the US Government does not just give stuff away. They are sold for scrap metal value. Most aircraft contain aluminum which is valuable, so it makes sense that a "scrap yard" would buy old airplanes for the recycle value.

    Hey World Unearthed, I grew somewhat curious about the plane at 8:00 that you said you didn't know much about, and had marked as "Unknown". It appears to be the nose section of the Lockheed C-141B Starlifter. While I'm not 100% sure of this, it does seem to match what I've found online, as well as a painting of several Vietnam Era aircraft and descriptions I have from the 80's hanging in my room. I also found out that Wade's Salvage actually has a large number of aircraft, most of which seem to date back to the Vietnam War (I.e, 1960's and 1970's.), just like the C-141B. Some of their aircraft include UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) helicopters, F-4 Phantoms, and much, MUCH more. I managed to find their Facebook page, too. On it, they have some pictures of the aircraft at the salvage yard. Here's the link facebook.com/pages/Wades-Salvage/160339117319599 Anyways, great video as always, keep up the good work man! Being the nerd I am, I always love to see your videos!

      @WorldUnearthed  Před 7 lety +1

      Hey ! I could not look at any of the pictures on their facebook thats why I didn't mention it in the video.
      The Starlifter looks like a HUGE plane, it would make sense if its only the nose section, but in all the pictures of it on google, the top sections are all covered up and no glass can be seen.
      Anyways, cheers ! Glad you enjoy the videos :D

      Pure Competizione I thought about it being something like an older fighter with a bubble cockpit, but there's just no way. It's far too large for something like that.

    • @EnclaveGeneral
      @EnclaveGeneral Před 7 lety +1

      World Unearthed World Unearthed Yeah I can see what you mean. I did actually manage to find some with the glass visible, those variants were typically used in the mid-late 60's, and early 70's. Another theory I have is that it's the frontal/nose section of a Century Series aircraft. Century Series is the name given to the group of various aircraft with the designation of F-100 up to F-109 These were typically Interceptors and Fighter Bombers, and it does look similar to a few of them. But as I was typing this, I did actually find a large bomber that had a Bubble Canopy that looks very similar to this; The B-47 Stratojet. It matches up with the timeframe of the other aircraft at the scrap yard, and it does appear to be the frontal section, just with the nose cut off. Anyways, I think I'm getting way too into this. Just fascinated at would it could be.

    • @biponacci
      @biponacci Před 7 lety

      Judging by the size and placement of the warning label on the front, it has it's intake on it's nose like a sabre, but the paint is unfamiliar.

    Very first one is similar to the American setup that used a bomber. It was made fully of wood, including wooden screws. Used to test EMPs and their effect on various equipment. Russia was doing the same thing at the same time. This is their areas 51 in the northeastern part of Russia. Not hard to find honestly, just beyond inhospitable and a rather unwise place to visit if you value your life. Also 7 is another "mothball" fleet.

      We also nick named it the "Spud Plane". at least my father did. Wasn't sure if it was because it transported potatoes, or just because it looked like a potato... I remember one flyer regularly from Palmerston North Airport, New Zealand in the 70's.

    Is English a 2nd language for you? First thing I heard on this was the word "Freighter", pronounced "FRIGHTER" as if you were describing a teen scream movie. To ALL the English-speaking world, the letters EI are what we call a "diphthong": two letters put together to create a third sound. In this case, E followed by an I creates a "LONG A" as in FATE. True, in German EI is Long I as in "Eye", but then the "GH" would have made it unpronounceable. So I guess this makes me a language nazi. Fine, but to some of us English, with all its' foibles, is the most expressive language on this planet; we have an abundance, possibly an OVER-abundance, of words gathered from all the other languages, living or dead, to express anything and everything we see, hear or experience. In the past 20 years I've had to hear the most atrocious.....whatever, you've probably stopped reading this by now. I guess I'll hear from you in the Dark Ages, Shalom
