- Age of Empires 2 has always been one of my favorite games since childhood. Last year, I decided to bring my experience in VFX as a lead creatures and character modeler into the realm of Unreal Engine. I set out to create a full cinematic project in UE5, making the most of the fantastic free assets available as well as some I purchased. My main focus was on diving deep into learning the engine's capabilities.
Over the past six months, I've been diving in and out of crafting this cinematic. It's been quite the adventure, from piecing together the breathtaking "Medieval Village" environment by the Epic team to handling the textures and rigging for the characters. I even dabbled in AI mocap using MoveAi and facial mocap with Metahuman Live Link. Now, I'm thrilled to say wololo! - Krátké a kreslené filmy

yep, eyes back then had 4k but now a days, everything seems in 480
A few parts on the second half got skipped but ultimately a good remake

Gorgeous work. For my personal use, I have made it into a mod which is played when the game starts, replacing the current intro video. I will not make it public without your permission, of course.

@ageofempires should hire him right away and support him to finish all the scenes of the introduction! This is something wonderful and truly worthy to be part of the current definitive edition, instead of making introductions that represent little or nothing of the immersion of the original game or even wors (make it crash).

This is awesome, so nostalgic!! I wish they had kept this intro in the game and just updated it! Just a few observatiosn which I think would make it even better:
1. I could be wrong, but I always though the guy who drops the king piece in the end is the same green king (Graphics weren't great, but they looked like the same model to me), as he has "captured" the piece and defeated the red king.
2. I can imagine it must be really rough to make the whole battle sequence, but feels a bit like an abrupt cut from the trebs to the aftermath, specially since the soundtrack was so awesome in this part.
3. I miss the monks carrying the relic next to the treb.
Again, it looks awesome and I can't even animate a power point slide, but just thought would be nice to point those details out.
on your point 2: the original long intro was cut shorter when aoe2 was ported to steam i believe

In the classical intro, the guy dropping the chess piece is indeed the younger king, although he was hard to recognize under his armor.
It's kinda prophetic how AoE2 became the computer age version of Chess, 25 years later and it is still going strong, and I bet people will still be playing it 100 years in the future.
I wonder if the devs knew how influential this game would be.

This was what I was naively expecting when I downloaded he definitive edition. Didn't even have the old menu screen anymore. Mind you, it's still excellent.
The final scene still gives me shivers. Amazingly well done!
I directed the original cinematic for AoE2 and this is AMAZING.
It looks great but, the guy smirking in the chair should be the one dropping the chess piece in the end seeing his empire crumble in the end. It´s the same for the old intro.
I know it's a bit rough around the edges and isn't complete, but fantastic work my friend. Well done!
The thing that grinds my gears is that one person can produce this beautiful remake as a passion project on the side, yet Microsoft hasn't done this themselves for DE (or even one for AoE4 for heaven's sake). Mahmoud, if you end up finishing the full cinematic, we can make a mod in DE that replaces the current intro. Heck, Microsoft might even adopt it as the official remake too. Happy to reach out internally to put this on their radar.
Thanks for your kind words Nomaan, big fan of your content:). I was thinking the same way why they havo done it? thats why I took this step. This was an educational project for myself to learn unreal engine I know it needs ton of refinement and rework but I invested 6 months working on it so for making the full cinematic its very challenging, but but speaking about pushing it to be official that’s something lets talk about it.
This looks great. As a young squire back in 1999, AoE2 was pretty much my first computer game. Love seeing things like this.

When I downloaded AOE 2 DE from steam, I was very excited, I thought I would get an opening with improved quality.
This is what the opening of AOE 2 DE should be like. But I was disappointed not to get that when I first opened the game.

After seeing the 4K remastered AI version of AOE2, I never imagined this gem would come out! Now it gives me the opportunity to imagine what it would be like in the future, to see it with immersive lenses and be present during the chess game and on the battlefield!
