The blend of materials were chosen not just for aesthetics but also to embrace wear, and to tell a story. From concrete floors resilient to the test of time to cedar intentionally left to patina, every scratch and mark narrates a chapter of the family's journey.
The homeowners share the serendipitous discovery of the property as well as the challenges and triumphs of constructing a famly home bound by a modest budget.

This is what TRUE DESIGN is: You don't pay attention to any "design strategies" shouting at you here and there. You just simply enjoy the space and the landscape surround you.
I enjoy seeing a young couple with discipline and desire to build a wonderful home on such lovely terrain.

Every design is special for the people who build it,yet it is a different kind of home,coming out of a barn design,the double building is a great idea for everybody’s privacy ,use of space and economy thinking ,love the whole place,many happy future memories for the young couple !

You chose the perfect time of day (and date) to get such a beautiful painterly quality of light to promote this house. The still image of the link in this video looks like a house that belongs in an Edward Hopper painting. As the camera panned up over the grass I couldn’t help thinking of Andrew Wyeth’s famous work- “Christina’s World,” the painting of the girl lying in a grassy field. Beautiful house

The thought towards minimizing the little peoples rooms is such a novel and genius move!
It is but it looks like they are still 3x3 m rooms from the floorplan. That's a standard bedroom size in most other western countries. 2x3m would be small.
I met the owner of a Frank Lloyd Wright house built with the same idea. FLW didn't just design the house; he designed the way he wanted people to live in them.
It's a great idea and a big departure from the McMansion style of giving each kid a 250sf room.
The house is livable (!). Everything about this project is so simple, yet beautiful.
Beautiful. Amazing natural light and the lot is so peaceful. I love the real life stages that most of us have to roll with. Someday there will be cabinets in my laundry room. 😆

Such a nice intimate look into their home, and it never felt intrusive. Nice eye catching all those little detail shots in there also!
It's funny to see how people see this design as "special", while every other home in north of Europe looks exactly like that (nothing wrong with that either way, just saying). In Poland we call this style "Modern Barn", and super popular recently, I'm building a similar one, though with Black wood.

Hi Ian, their family was able to move in just prior to Covid-19, and they're appreciative they were able to construct the home before the price of building materials increased.
