It’s a beast of a gun if you learn to handle the fast rate of fire, high recoil and low round count by utilising short bursts. It’s by far the most powerful gun in close quarters if you can use it effectively. I’ve come on top many times going up against Ppsh41s and thompsons. Issues I have with this gun is the lack of power at long range. It utilises the same 8mm Mauser the Kar98 does and yet it often takes 2 or more shots to drop an enemy beyond 100m. It’s hard enough to hit a target at that distance due to the high rate of fire and recoil and it’s most frustrating when they shrug the rounds off like you shot them with an MP40. They need to give this gun and the BAR more power at longer distances. They should possess the same or similar power as their rifleman counterparts that utilise the same rounds (30.06 and 8mm Mauser). The other issue I have with this gun is the low ammo count. You’re already disadvantaged by using it over the sgt44 due to it having only 20 rounds per mag. The high rate of fire means you only get a few bursts out of one mag and to make matters worse, the game only gives you 5 spare magazines. With the one in the gun that’s 6 mags. 120 rounds goes very quickly in a gun that fires so quickly it simply isn’t enough. The amount of times I’ve died due to running out of ammo is countless. I wish it had a select fire mode to help with conservation of ammo but I understand the devs don’t want to do this as the scoped, sniper variant of the FG42 utilises the semi auto mode. In my humble opinion, at the very least, they should give players a few more magazines to bring it in line with the STG44. I also don’t understand why they’d give the Bren machine gun used by the British faction in the same automatic rifleman class the ability to use it’s bipods but they wouldn’t do the same for the BAR and the FG42. this game makes no sense at times. I tried raising these issues with the devs but they don’t seem to give a flying fuck. The FG42 is still my favorite weapon to use by far. Despite the STG44 being a far superior alternative, I find the FG42 more satisfying to use and I love that it’s so rare most people don’t even know it exists in the game. The satisfaction you get from defeating foes armed with sub machine guns with the Fg42 is priceless.
On which FOV Do u play? I tested numerous Settings and dont get a sweet Spot. Maybe switch to like 70 on maps like omaha/Foy and Standard 90 in carentan
I played for a long time with 110, then 100. I also struggled to find a "sweet spot", but now I've just given in and play with around 90. My monitor is 32" which helps spotting people bit further away without the need to lower FOV. Test different settings, I'm sure you'll find the most suitable for you!
