  • Last fall (2014) Steve Despain and I finally went camping and fishing together. Steve owns Firebox Outdoors. Steve was cooking breakfast for us on his stoves. I decided to fire up one of his Nano stoves and bake some cornbread muffins, it was a treat. I had used a Zebra 16mm pot before as an oven to cook dinner rolls. Watch how I did it.

Well done. The Firebox Stoves & the Nano stove, in my case is a huge game changer for motorcycle touring here in Australia. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Perry, It was fun watching this and remembering everything about that trip, fishing, cooking, chatting and of course lots of eating! Good times with a good friend! Thanks man!

Thanks so much for all your great tips! And that is ONE BEAUTIFUL CUP you carved :) Being a fan of things looking homemade rather than mass produced, I'd buy one, or two, seriously!

Looks good. I will give this a try soon. I don't have the nano, but my large Firebox will do the trick.

The pebbles/rocks in pan to make an oven is awesome idea. So we don't get shrapnel hard bread base.

Wow, seeing you two together is like seeing Superman alongside Clark Kent. Very unxpected.

This is where Steve first saw baking in a Zebra Pot, I always did it vertical, he went horizontal with it and is now a legend !! We had a good time camping together. We don't do it that much as our schedules conflict, and I don't know if he likes my humor, haha.

The small round aluminum cake pans work good for this., get one that is slightly smaller diameter as your pot. Betty Crocker makes a bunch of different just ad water mixes which work great: choc chip, banana nut, blueberry, etc.

Hi Perry - I love my nano and would like to give dry baking a try, but I'd like to set myself up for success. So, what size pot did you use for the cornbread?

Brownies, Syrup pancakes, muffins. You sure like your sweet deserts. 😄

Why didn't you use the pan that comes with the zebra billy can to bake the cornbread?

Raul Solis Good idea, I wrote it on my list. I did do a blog a few weeks ago on our website, where I did a pocket dump and described what I carry. Thanks for the suggestion!

how about putting a sheet of Reynolds Wrap over the top of the cup and push the wrap into the cup with your fist, pour the batter or doe into the cup on top of the batter then fold the wrap thats sticking out of the cup inside the cup over the top of the batter then put the cover on top of the cup and then bake maybe 10 min. you end up with a clean cup,no washing. then make some more - enjoy

For the cornbread I needed a little more oil. I have done this same thing many times with bread dough and the rolls just fall out of the cup, one time I made rolls for hours with no problem. In this video was the first time I had made cornbread. Thanks for the suggestions, it always nice to make things easier, especially clean up.

Olive oil bread is nice. Flour, salt, olive oil, water. Never tried corn flour.

Little more practice on your corn bread, my opinion lol.
I like wood and coals for baking with coals on top and bottom, just me,
    Fun is what it's about,

Putting rocks at the bottom of a larger pot to control the heat & lift the baking pan off the bottom is a dynamite tip!
