      In our school, there was an event to perform these kind experiments in front of people. It was actually our biology teacher not chemistry teacher, who encouraged and supervised us.

    • @chatzida
      @chatzida  Před 5 lety +1

      Actually if you look carefully at 06:25 you 'll see a pale blue liquid in the 3rd glass from the left: this is CuSO4 solution (I think 0.5M). With the addition of ammonia it turns to vibrant blue Cu(NH3)4 ++ complex

      chatzida Oh! didn't see that... thank you so much! One more question, would it be OK if I use some other base instead of NH3, citric acid instead of HNO3, and thymolpthalein for CuSO4? We need to use safer chemicals as possible... and I wonder if there are anything we could use instead of Pb(NO3)2. Sorry, and thank you!

      The small glasses contained: 2 mL of CuSO4.5H2O 0,5 M, 2 mL of saturated Pb(NO3)2 and 2 mL phenolphthalein respectively . The large plastic glass that we poured from contained ΝΗ3 1 Μ . The plastic glass used to collect all solutions contained ~100 mL ΗΝΟ3 2 Μ, just enough to decolorize all of them. The last large plastic glass , that became purple rain coctail, contained NH3 1M.
      I hope that it makes sense!
