- Join ceramicists and plaque makers Ned Heywood and Julia Land in the studio, as we see the making of the 1000th London Blue Plaque. The famous plaques link the people of the past with the buildings of the present. The scheme was started in 1866 and is thought to be the oldest of its kind in the world. This landmark 1000th plaque commemorates the Women's Freedom League - a women's suffrage organisation linked to the Suffragettes - at their former London headquarters at 1 Robert Street, Westminster. The Women's Freedom League used non-violent direct action to campaign for women's suffrage and equality more broadly.

Thanks, Women’s freedom league.
This is wonderful news, thank you so much. Many thanks to those women on whose shoulders we stand.
Love seeing behind the scenes on how the plaques are made!
The plaque is beautiful.
I enjoy watching and connecting with my English heritage. Thank you for your work. It is very much appreciated and very important to me. 🙂❤️👍🇭🇲
Woo, one of the first! This is very interesting (from across the pond).
Congratulations on the 1000th Plaque and a moment to appreciate the contribution of the Women’s Freedom League.
such an important moment in history!
That would make an interesting tour of London, finding blue plaques.
These plaques are beautiful and helpful for people to remember.
The Plaque is beautiful, Also helpful for people to remember.
Thank you 😊 🙏🏾
Congratulations on the milestone plaque - such an important scheme as is seems the more historical information is readily available to the masses, the less likely they are to have an interest or appreciate said history. English Heritage are so vitally important and this and all plaques represent that importance. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work.....hope to see many of these plaques when I next visit Great Britain......which hopefully will be soon!
The real heroines and original feminists. Thank you for showing us this beautiful ceramic process 😍
👏
It's so important to remember that our rights to vote, have our own bank account, own property, and even to wear trousers is relatively new. We are persons!
Wonderful!
(I thought plaques were enameled bronze, I think ours, in Canada, are. Are these clay?)
