No real need to drain the coolant, I changed mine and housing very easily (with a magnet to catch that bottom nut). I just placed a bucket to catch the spill from cracking the housing-maybe a cup was in there if not less. Good video though.

Cars: Need to replace the thermostat? cool, remove the housing to access the thermostat. Depending on position, you may or may not need to drain the coolant, make sure to bleed it after!
Minis: Need to replace thew thermostat? Have fun buddy., make sure to remove half the engine first lololol
German engineering. Performance with no second thought on maintenance.

My previous car, a volvo v40 t4 had two screws to change the thermostat. Took all of 2 mins. This I now have to do in the R50 mini. Utterly ridiculous amount of work.

Both pretty low IQ comments. Maybe consider the actual cars design and thus limited room. Sheesh, even my young son could work that one out. What worries me is how you both managed to obtain your driving licences given the amount of stupidity you have demonstrated. 😂😂😂

Hi. Thanks for the video. Big help! I hava a leak around the thermostat housing on my 2003 R50. I will try changing the gasket. I have read that they are a common failure on the R50.

Buen video para quemar tu mini. No dice que una vez hecho el cambio y relleno, hay que purgar el circuito y extraer el aire.

Why did you change the thermostat?! I have a problem on the radiator cap next to the thermostat and now water comes out from the radiator expansion coolant tank. Can you please help me.

Just did this again because my stat was open and wouldn't allow the car to warm up especially when it's 11 outside. This time only about a quarter cup came out.
