    Transcript:
I'm a neurologist and a neuroscientist, and I love leading a life of mind. I can explore mechanisms and treatment of seizures and epilepsy in the lab, and I can also help human beings with epilepsy, both by doing clinical trials and being in clinic.
I'm Jaideep Kapoor, MD, PhD, a clinician investigator. I'm Eugene Meyer, the third professor of neuroscience and professor of neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. I'm also the director of the UVA Brain Institute. I take care of patients in clinic, do research in the lab, and help individuals doing brain research across the university.
Grand mal seizures are dramatic events. Most of them end by themselves, but some of them continue and threaten the life and brain health of individuals who suffer from them. My studies in the research lab provided unique and new insights into the mechanisms of such seizures, and were lucky enough to bring those advances to human research and conduct large-scale trials to understand and treat this condition, called status epilepticus.
