Ive had this for the last few years and used everything. I learned that you need a daily routine. Thayers facewash works for me with salicylic acid. But anything thats natural works. Fasting and diet is the main key. Only 2 days a month you can get a cheat day. Getting sun is a major key... And finally dont shower daily. If you do shower daily get a water filter. Everyone is different. But if you have dermatitis you have to be very careful

What products/types of products would you recommend for someone that wants a basic facial skincare routine - like if someone (without any major skincare concerns) wanted to use just 3-5 products in their routine, what would be the best?

Great question! For a basic skincare routine where you get some of all the benefits (i.e. hydration, anti-aging, clear complexion, etc.) I would recommend using a serum (either hyaluronic acid or a vitamin C serum or even a peptide serum), then moisturizer and then facial oil. And then for an extra step at night I would use a retinol moisturizer or serum. Hope that helps!

Can oil be used for oily and acne prone skin to control oil

This depends on the oil. As long as the oil is non-comedogenic it can be used for oily and acne prone skin, not necessarily to "control oil" but it shouldn't make acne worse. Managing sebum (oil) production in acne starts with diet, balancing hormones and stress management but your skincare products can also affect it and are important! I would recommend not using coconut oil (caprylic acid) topically. A few of my favorite non-comedogenic oils are rose hip oil, squalene, jojoba oil, tea tree oil, and sunflower oil.
