    The Non-Canon Expert explains the brutal rampage conducted by Darth Vader against numerous Imperial Officers after both himself and the Emperor were humiliated following the infiltration of the Imperial Navy by a Rebel spy. Of course Vader and Palpatine would play a role in the whole matter too, but try explaining that to a Sith Lord!
    In this a Legends story for Darth Vader found within the 2013 Legends Dark Horse Star Wars comic. I hope that you enjoy it!

      I would like to agree with you but I cannot, on my understanding of keeping tight hold on a massive regime they’re going to do it through fear and intimidation tactics and I’m am on a sad note, mathematically they are most likely going to find the traitor and or spy eventually and have plenty more bodies to replace those positions.... it’s happened in the real world multiple times in history

    • @SupersaiyanChristian
      @SupersaiyanChristian Před 5 lety +115

      punishing is one thing. Executing officers who fell for the same ploy he did was just stupid. Vader is almost as bad as maul was here: an animal who's emotions and ego run too wild. He frequently killed any for failure.
      fear is a powerful tool for control, but only for a little while. after a while it spawns rebellion, just like the empire inevitably did. the longer you rule by fear, the more likely it becomes that rebellion will spring up.
      Thrawn's vision of the empire in Legends was a FAR better one as far as the military is concerned. that's why he truly had the soldiers' undying loyal whereas the regular soldiers obeyed out of fear and would gladly see their superiors gone

    • @RequiemPoete
      @RequiemPoete Před 5 lety +43

      @@lazarusluna1475: Here's the problem. Following that logic Vader himself should jump out the nearest airlock. Other than insulting him, that Officer was spot on for calling Vader out. Especially true since Sith and Jedi can sense deceit. Additionally EVERYONE fails at some point. If you execute all your experienced officers after a rare failure, then your lobotomizing your command structure by putting in less expirenced people who are more likely to fail.
      Ruling through fear by crushing dissent and disloyalty is one thing, but if I were a loyal officer and I know I'll be executed the moment I make one mistake, or not even that, happen to be in command when something beyond my control happens, forget retreat. I'll be defecting the moment I realize a mistake was made.

      @Arcrombie even Palpatine rarely went as far as Vader regularly does. Bane himself believed senseless killing was useless to the goals of the Sith.
      Vader, despite being a monster, was a failure of a Sith IMO. He failed in many of their tenants aside from brute force. He was a perfect sith warrior true, but even their usefulness was limited. It's why I liked the sith at the end if the Vader comics. He exposed Vader perfectly for his flaws.

      Late reply, but the force doesn't tell all regarding a person's intentions. From what I've read, it often gives insight into one's emotional state and whether they are hostile. This means that even a non-force user can disguise their intentions against a Jedi or Sith provided they keep their emotional state in control. One Legends, or as I like to call it true canon novel, "Legacy of the Force: Revelation" has an admiral deceiving Vader's Jedi-turned-Sith grandson Jacen, keeping him from realizing she intends to overthrow him by keeping a constant veneer of contempt for him as her present mental-state while still doing her job and working with him.

It's not normally done, that's true, but there's no precedent saying a Marine can't command a naval unit.
      The term 'naval' is also kind of fuzzy here, as spacecraft could be described as both types of ships and types of aircraft. It makes sense that there would be sort of 'unified' rank structure that accommodates both lines of thought.
