I find these most useful.
After watching a few videos featuring them I've gotta say the Schoeps MK2/4 have the most beautiful, moving lower mid range I've ever heard on acoustic sources.
Choir Spots microphones : Schoeps MK4 and Neumann KM184
Really excellent overview of mic'ing. Your contrasting the sectional vs omni tree mics was amazing and really helped to establish why you would need both. Very well done; thanks.
Thanks for the video. I prefer the MK2s alone.
Exelent video! Good work.
the sound at 0:23 is very good even with just a pair of mics at least on headphones I understand that is difficult to capture the soloist but you could try put her in the middle closer to the mics ? so that she stands out from the choir Thank you very much for this excellent and very interesting video Kind regards, gino
great video - very helpful!
That's really interesting, thanks!
thank you so much ❤
perfect!
Goodsound
I preferred the "main microphones" set-up
yes, sounded best with just the main microphones and no spots
Thank you very much for this video! I was really amazed by the direct sound/reverberation mix you did on the two pairs for the soloist. Did you end up using both of the pairs in the final mix?
No, for the soloist I've chosen the closest pair (schoeps MK4).
Thanks for this useful video. However I always find it difficult (when I make my own recordings) to prevent the cancel out / phasing and comb effect in these setups. Any advise on this matter in a video would be nice. Maybe it does not show as much here due to the used types of mics...and the high quality of the cardiod mics.
To prevent the effect of cancellation / phase shift and comb, it is necessary to dose very little the spot microphones or the ambience microphones compared to the main microphones and respect the rule of thirds in the distances between the microphones and the source.
@@AixOrgue Thanks for the quick reply! I am considering to buy a set of Schoeps omni for choral recording to replace my Se Electronics, still tempted by the MK5 that have both paterns...?!
Thank you. Do you have a plan view?
Bonjour,
Super enregistrement ;)
Quelle était la distance séparant les 2 micros sur le couple AB ? 40 cm ?
Merci :-) Les micros AB sont espacés de 60cm
You need to either calculate or trial and error the spacing for each situation, dependent on how wide you want to represent the ensemble between the speakers, which in return is dependent from the angle of the Klangkörper (Orchesterwinkel), which is derived from the real width of the ensemble and the distance to the AB-system - and the distance is chosen dependent on how much direct vs. location ambience you want in the main mic :D Most Stereo-System tend to spread the middle, you could kind of make up for that by using a large-AB ambient system in the diffuse field that represents the ensemble mostly in the middle - but has a very wide ambience (reverb).
What were the characteristics of the individual microphones?
the exact models are displayed in the subtitles
Why not just a bunch of shure sm57s ?
Not the same tone with sm57, more clarity with condenser or ribbon mic. Yes, it works with sm57, it depends of the result you want
