SST Interviews: Jeff Lewis on the Origins of Matamp | Huddersfield

Jeff Lewis is the current owner of the Matamp company, founded by the late Hans Alfred “Mat” Mathias in 1945. Mat supplied high quality, powerful amplifiers and expertise to various operators in the Huddersfield sound system and club scene. Jeff worked as a DJ during the 1960s and 70s before taking over Matamp in the 90s.
In this interview, Jeff recalls what Mat was like as a person, and discusses the connection between Mat's colleague Tony Emerson and the meaning of the acronym Matamp.
The interview was conducted in 2021 in Huddersfield by Mandeep Samra and produced by both Mandeep and Gopal Dutta. Zoe Opal East was camera operator.

Great video. I've never owned a Matamp amp, but I've heard alot of them and they sound great. I have used one of their Supanova mixers, however, and it sounded amazing. No wonder they are so hard to find, nowadays.
