You seen what’s out next month?? Expeditions a Mudrunner Game!!!😮😊
Nintendo mini direct announced, might be informative
'The Wasteland series was based on Fallout'...to correct this, it was the other way around. First Wasteland game was in 1988 and the first Fallout game was in 1997, so almost a decade later.
Witcher 3, Zelda and No Man Sky for me are simply breathtaking. Always blows me away that these games can even run on the Switch
I gave about 20 hours to no man's sky and quit. It's too dull for me and I thought I would love it.
i was gonna get zelda BOTWt but there where puzzles and im not a fan so instead i got skyrim and yes i know that game has puzzles too but i hope not as much compared to zelda.
@@user-zd1oc3pz8soooooh, I forgot about Skyrim, that game was awesome
@@saralowe5306it's an acquired taste, but totally get why people might not like it
No man’s Sky has come such a long way on Switch. They patched the visuals and performance a lot and it shows
I would really love to see Bully: Scholarship Edition ported over to this Switch or the next iteration. I lost myself in that world for so many hours, just riding around, smashing things, firing potatoes at enemies, and toppling porta-loos.... sigh, nostalgic dreams
Don’t get me started one of my all time faves, baffles me how it’s on the App Store but not on switch
@@MZ096 and given how it was on the Wii as well, a console from which many ports have been made with little difficulty for developers. Baffling and a missed opportunity for Rockstar for an injection of funds from its sales to add to GTA 6 production although I doubt they need it.
@@jesssealey6552 I honestly believe it has something to also do with how PC the world is now cause releasing a game like that new in 2024 would make some bloggers fingers twitch
@@MZ096 good point! Shame 😞
Greatest open world game ever.
I’ve spent countless hours in Red Dead’s open world. It’s just fantastic
Looking back at these games just reminds me how awesome the Switch has been and still is. What a console. ❤
You should definitely go beat that "last" boss on Dark Souls
I came to the comments to see who's gonna tell him 😂
Hahahaha oh no! Mark
You still got a third of the game (if you didn’t go to New Londo) to go! and the Artorius dlc! 🎉 :P
I actually find that the game's kind of down-hill after Anor Londo.
I never realised how many "lose yourself" games are on Switch for a three part series, even more that I have missed out on 😢. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through CZcams Longplays this year. Thanks for delving into this deep chasm Mark and Glen whether for this content or for fun. Cheers Gents for risking yourself and time to these cracking games and the rest of the series.
Edited for spelling.
A ton of those kinds of games, and not even open world ones!
I normally play soulslike, action/adventure, rpgs, metroidvania or niche/weird indies. Ending up bying snowrunner based on your recommendations, even though it's not something I'd normally ever play or be into. Needless to say I was addicted and think the game is a Masterpiece. It's my zen game dispite being stupid hard at times. Thank you for helping me step outside my comfort zone and find such a gem of a game. Anyone on the fence, buy the game! It's sooo good! Love your channel and your honesty with reviews. Thanks lads!
Snowrunner is insanely good! It's my comfort game when I'm too stressed to play anything else.
They're about to release a new game in the series. It's called Expedition
@kill_repeat8491 sorry m8, I still have all the snowrunner DLC maps to play first. 300 hours on the stock game maps, and still haven't touched logging. Might have time for expeditions around 2045.
My experience with snowrunner matches up with OP's quite well
@CatFish107 I, too, have an infinite backlog.
I'm on my way back to Red Dead now, where does the time go😂
I'm excited for this series. I love open world games. I love getting sidetracked from a main objective because something in the distance is catching my eye. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are both mind-blowing to me because this huge beautiful world is crammed onto the tiny switch. I'm still playing through Read Dead, Dragons Dogma, and The Witcher 3
Witcher 3, Skyrim, No Man’s Sky, The Ezio Collection, Pokemon Arceus… I’ve easily spent hundreds of hours on them. It’s absolutely amazing what the switch can run!!!
Would you recommend the witcher on switch to someone who's never played it before? How is the performance?
@@TheDJDUCK01 I have a regular switch and it runs okay in my opinion. Graphics aren’t great except for the cutscenes, and load times are a bit long. Performance is okay in my opinion - I think the game generally runs around 30fps and has the occasional bug. Still, I sunk in a lot of hours before I got the game on other systems .
If you don’t have other systems to play Witcher 3 on, the switch version is decent enough. No idea how or if it would run on a switch lite, though.
You could also check out some more videos, pretty sure these guys made at least one on the Witcher and also included it in their all patched up series.
@@TheDJDUCK01I have tried to play the Witcher multiple times and it never stuck until I played it on Switch. It performs worse, although still completely adequately, and looks worse than every version. But something about the portable aspect does it for me. I'd recommend it.
Subtitles are giving y'all hell in the Dragon's Dogma section 😂😂😂 great video!
It is absolutely hilarious. So glad you posted this so I could pay close attention
😅
@@SwitchUpYt you probably should have pronounced pawn in a southern American accent 😂
Hahaha oh shit I'm laughing so hard roght now 🤣🤣
You two chuckling always reminds me of Beavis and Butthead
Uuuh hu hu… yeah, yeah, boioioing!
😂
I really hope that Mutant Year Zero makes it into one of the other videos for this series. It's an amazing title that is very much XCOM-esque like Wasteland2 in gameplay and combat, but has a more structured story that you're following. They even did a number of performance updates over time and I can't recommend it enough to people who enjoy this genre of games.
Snowrunner is such an underappreciated stunner, and makes me nostalgic for games like Daggerfall, where I once spent an hour in real time learning to climb a wall, or Operation Flashpoint getting my APC lost in a vast forest. Games that don't explain everything, yet confident in the gameplay loop they've crafted. My 4 year old boy loves playing Snow Runner with me, him accelerating like a lunatic, me breaking, drifting, and steering through the bogs and snow. He gets as excited driving 5mph in this, as he does playing Sonic the Hedgehog. We've put a couple of dozen hours in, and are only about 20% the base game.
LoL yeah, getting super jazzed for snail paced rock crawling ftw.
My young daughter and I played "camping" using snowrunner. We packed some snacks, got a led lantern, grabbed our sleeping bags, and sat down together on the couch, in the "camper van" (lo4f). We opened up the map and chose a camping spot together. By the lake? Up a snowy mountain? By the river? OK. We picked out a route, and had a nice drive through the woods. When we got to the "campsite", we unpacked the van, and rolled out sleeping bags in the living room, and made a pretend fire, and pretended to roast marshmallows.
Snowrunner can be a cozy role playing game if you want it to be.
i have so many hours in divinty II, and the cross save with steam comes very handy
Hey guys! I always enjoy watching your videos but this one (and the next 2) in particular got me excited! Quite the open world fan. But I especially loved the open ended banter! Made me chuckle. Can't wait to see the next two lists. Keep up the great work, guys
Ah good stuff mate looking forward to the community response. Mark
Some of my favourites! Love getting lost in an open world. I've spent a HARROWING week trying to "git gud" at Dark Souls and I seriously need a break... I've started to RESENT my Switch (!)
Perfect time to dive back into Witcher 3 and finally finish it
Don't you dare go hollow!
Aaah Witcher 3. Definitely one of the best open world games out there. Sooo good! 😋
Hey!
You've mentioned this game once in your videos, but Gothic and Gothic II fit the theme very well and those are fantastic old school games with amazingly crafted open worlds.
Their kind of open world is more about each part of the world having its purpose - there are no large empty spaces between locatons, each part is hand-crafted, there are significant secrets around every corner. It's one of those open worlds that you can just navigate without a map because of how characteristic each location is.
It would be great to see you talk about it some more.
Oh nice that's a great choice. Mark
Hey guyz, this was a cool video I like when you go th ru a gaming genre and give your favorites. With that being said... I really enjoyed immortals fynx rising. This game made me not want to finish... I kept just doing daily task just to be able to run around, climb, fly, ride, and fight....I really want to try that wind blown one mark talked about in another video... where you go from island to island... Can't wait for the next one..
I’ve been super sick and trying to catch up on yous guys videos. Actually scared to watch your sales video. My wallet is not ready 😂. I will say though that Witcher 3, black flag, dragons dogma & Red dead and definitely must play on the switch.
How are you not including Skyrim? Baffling omission. I can only assume you’ve not played it
It's only part one of 3 parts on open world games
I love that Snowrunner is on this list, I’m having a blast with it and is definitely a high quality simulation game on Switch. I love these kinds of games.
If you like snow runner! They are bringing out a new game called expeditions, releasing in march!
@@ashleyjones8620too much content to play through first. If they delay for about a decade to tighten up the physics, I might be done with snowrunner by then.
Hopefully they nerf the tiny charcoal bbqs. Stop building from indestructible materials pls.
@@ashleyjones8620 Might wait on a review for that on Switch plus any patches after release as since it’s also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the trailers for it had me concerned for the game on Switch. Somehow the listing for the game on the eShop said it’s 3.3GB for just the base game, far less than Snowrunner but that could definitely change.
Black Flag is a great port on Switch. I had no real issues with the graphics or anything while playing it handheld. It was one of the first Switch games that I played all the way through (mostly at work 😂) and made me really appreciate having a portable system. My old digital copy on Xbox would always glitch out at a certain point, so it was nice to be able to actually play the game too haha.
Dragons Dogma is pretty hardcore, tried revisiting it a few times and every time I see it I want to give it another go!
It’s just a rough learning curve. ):
I keep trying to get back into it but never last long before I give up on it, just too damn hard
Can't be that hard, bought the game a month ago after watching one of these guys vids but it's way easier than people say it is.
First playthrough was on Hardmode and I'm currently in NG+ just roaming BBI.
Don't minmax if you wanna have fun that shit hurts ya brain. 😂
Great video, lads. I loved Arceus. Best pokemon game I’ve ever played. The way they changed up the gameplay was amazing. Hopefully they will go back to this way of playing on the next game.
TOTK and No Man’s Sky. I’m a HUGE Zelda fan, have been since I first discovered OoT on the N64. NMS is amazing and can’t believe I can play it on the go
It’s funny because i LOVED Ocarina at the time, when i got a Switch last year the first game i bought was BOTW… but i played TOTK first when that came out and was hooked! now i started BOTW and also love it!
I will wait until the end to discuss any that I feel should be included. As for part 1, what a tremendous start to one of my favorite genres. Dragon's Dogma, Snowrunner and Dark Souls are all top tier games and are actually all in my top 10 games on the system.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Gothic, Risen, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, No Man's Sky, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Dying Light, Red Dead Redemption, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are all amazing games on the Switch. I even had a blast playing The Outer Worlds and the GTA Trilogy despite the various flaws that the Switch ports of those games had.
Would you recommend I get the witcher, red dead or the gta trilogy first? I havent finished either of them before
@@TheDJDUCK01 Any of them will do.
Cracking video, looking forward to the next parts!
I didn’t realize there were so many! I’ve always been curious about Dragon’s dogma, but right now I’m stuck in Skyrim, still have so much to do in it 😊 nice list, I’m waiting for the next part!
Skyrim is absolutely breathtaking, I have over 100 hours on the switch alone, my only problem with Skyrim is that it doesn’t allow cross platform saves. So I have it on PS5 and had to start from the beginning, NOT that is a bad thing by any means because I love it but it would be a nice to have feature! Anyway enjoy your time in Skyrim 😉
This is part 1 of 3!
@@SwitchUpYt awesome 😊
@@offthewallsurfer1absolutely breathtaking, can’t agree more 😊 I discovered it last year (late to the party, I know) and I already purchased both ps4 and switch version!
@@melaniapina6368 don’t feel bad, I was also late to the party too 🤣
You’ve repiqued my interest in Snowrunner!! I have never before played a driving sim (or any true sim game) but this sounds/looks interesting enough for me to give the genre a go!
I’ve played and own every game but two on this list. What an amazing list. Of those, Hogwart’s Legacy, Black Flag, RDR1, Snow Runner, Arceus and Dark Souls are my favorites for so many different reasons. All open world and yet all are so different and memorable due to the worlds themselves.
I want to get Red Dead, Witcher3, Dragons Dogma & Dark Souls but I have to archive half the backlog I haven't even played yet 😂
I want to try RDR and Dark Souls eventually. But I’m intimidated because i am very mid at Zelda combat
@@apoplexiamusic i think with dark souls you can't rush in and button bash... Once you get used to it, you only die every other minute
@@Pickled_squirrel 😂 that’s encouraging!
Love this game and open world games! I’m a fan of Yonder and Skyrim as well! Can’t wait to see the other 2 installments to this series. Thank you! Always high quality awesome reviews 😀
Great video and a lot of new games for me to add to my list.
Snowrunner was a huge surprise to me, regarding just how addictive I found exploring. Like was mentioned regarding botw, I spent many hours just fooling around, not completing tasks.
Nice video lads! Some brilliant games in this list! Currently playing red dead 1 and it’s a blast returning to this game! Big shout out to Witcher 3, will replay that game 🤞 that they sort the bugs out from the update 😂
I love how much you guys love Snowrunner haha
Great video! I agree with this list and just another reason I need to pick up divinity 2 eventually.
Oooh nice selection, looking forward to part two and three. I enjoyed RDR more than I'm currently enjoying it's sequel on Xbox, not sure why but it just hasn't grabbed me the same.
I'm definitely an open world enthusiast. I have five of the games on this list and they are some of my most played games.
Can't wait for part two and three of this list.
Cheers.
This is cram-jam full of good games. Love the AC: Rogue thumbnail! Played that years after it came out. It was like playing a Black Flag sequel. :) good times.
I need to try and play open world games from the perspective of just exploring - it's quite amazing to have a whole world(s) in the palm of your hand. I need to not get hung up on quests or getting lost all the time!
The scale of Dragon Quest XI on the switch is impressive. Had so much fun with it
I have fragile mental health sometimes, and Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom have been a _sanctuary_ for me, so I totally get what you’re saying about a relaxing world. Hell, the hope of finding more relaxing worlds is exactly why I’m here 😂
Had a feeling Dragon's Dogma was gonna be here. I played through it for the first time a few years ago and it was amazing. It's hard to believe how underrated and little talked about that game is. Super hyped for 2😁 Getting it for my birthday because it comes out a few days before my birthday!
Looking forward to seeing one of my favorite item world games on Switch in part 2 or 3 of this series.
Homestly played all of these, and we have to mention skyrim. That port is just fantastic.
Look forward to the other parts. Thanks.
3 videos? Man I can’t wait. Are they dropping this week or over the next few weeks?
I have all but 2 on your list. Though I have an issue with Wasteland 2. There is a memory leak in one of the later towns that causes the game to constantly crash. I haven’t been able to finish the game due to it.
Oooh i love this. For sure is easy to completely immerse yourself in these games, i was suprised when i saw i put over 300 hrs in TOTK, they certainly felt a hell of a lot less.
I’m currently "around 200 hours" a lot of which was just exploring and mucking around, but I’ve had a lot of fun. I have gotten a bit bored with it after all that time, not really motivated to finish it because the last fight looks like a *****.
I started BOTW last week and I really like it! It feels really different even though it is technically the same map and i miss the enemy variety, ultrahand and ascend.
I did manage to glitch to get the master sword and 25 koroks though
@@apoplexiamusic hope you enjoy breath of the wild!! That game is special, wish i could play it for the first time again
Did you guys see that there's a new Snowrunner game coming in March called Expeditions? I'm so excited for it, which just seems so ridiculous because I'm really not a fan of racing games but Snowrunner/Mudrunner and even the Truck Sims on PC are some of my favorites!
I loved every moment of Tears of the Kingdom, to the point of playing that game almost exclusively for months on end. In the end, I finally finished the game with 255 hours of playtime on the counter, which is quite a lot more than the 160 hours I spent on Breath of the Wild (including the Champion's Ballad DLC). It was just perfect for me. But it's made me realise how little time I actually have for gaming in general, and however much I like open world games it's really hard to commit to a game you know will suck 70 hours of your time or more. Still, got a few more open world games in my backlog (like Immortals Fenyx Rising), and a few more on my wishlist (like No Man's Sky) and I'll definitely play them at some point, but finding the time to do so is really a challenge when you're an adult...
I didn't knew that "Good Skull N Bones" was available for the Switch. I'll def get that one soon!
that assassins creed tip is mental
My favs are BOTW/TOTK, Witcher 3 and Skyrim, which I’m sure will end up in part 2 or 3 of your series!
No Man’s Sky!! That game is so amazing!! And now it looks even better and runs great on Switch with all the updates it’s had! Also Astroneer is pretty good too! I’d say the Subnautica games too but I haven’t played those on the Switch in a while so idk if they’ve improved the performance for the Switch versions or not.
Really like this video. I’ve never played Arceus but really want to. Will it ever go on sale digitally??
I was so taken with the ship exploration and battles in Black Flag that I no longer have much or any interest in those Assassin’s Creed games that don’t include it. The Switch version is top notch. Smooth and crisp. It’s a game I still come back to a lot.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is amazing. I’ve played 60+ hours and barely made it out of the first area. So much content. So well thought out.
Tip on getting Red Dead Redemption physical for cheaper, when it goes on sale on the eshop the physical also goes on sale in the My Nintendo store in the US and Canada at least. Works for any game with a physical that gets sold on My Nintendo when there is an eshop sale. Sadly they don't sell the physical for Nier. Getting the physical for RDR from My Nintendo was the only way I could get it on sale for switch in Canada. Only the ps4 physical went on sale anywhere else here.
I love open world games and with the possibility of playing on the go with the switch I think it's the best way to play open world for me since I'm always playing for short periods through out the day.
I'm currently playing botw and have totk waiting as well as dragon's dogma and Hogwarts Legacy 😅
Skyrim! Both Zelda BOTW and TOTK. Immortals Fenyx Rising. Just to name a few. Interestingly, I have an ROG Ally as well, but keep finding myself playing my Switch more.
This really makes me want to play some open world on the switch but I can't decide between Dragons Dogma, Assassins Creed, or Red Dead Redemption.
As I don't own both Zelda's BotW nor TotK, do you recommend going right away for TotK or should I give BotW a try first?
Can't wait till next one thanks guys
Loving this open world list so far! But I wanted to throw an idea out there for a future list, there seems to be a major misconception about the switch and it only has a majority of family friendly games. I thought it would be great if you guys compiled a list of 16/18 games for our system.
Yeah I like that idea
Dragon's Dogma is such a masterpiece, kinda underrated but it is slowly changing. Tip for anyone playing it right now. Killing the dragon IS NOT the end of the game, after the credits whole new area of the map opens up and there you can achieve "true ending". Also loved Snowrunner, chill game for chill evenings. I haven't played Souls 1, hunting for good-priced physical edition.
Got so many open world games on my Switch, haven't completed a single one but I'm almost finished with Immortal Fenyx Rising, such a great game and absolutely stunning visually.
Great video lads one of my favourite games genre.
The bosses Mark was on about on Dark Souls were Ornstein and Smough, I myself could never beat them back on PS3 ....made me quit the game lol.
Finally managed to beat them on the PS4 version and by the way they were not the last boss!
Oof well I might have to go back to them! Cheers any tips?? Mark
I found it easier killing Ornstein first all so both are weak to fire as well, make sure your weapon is +10 that helped me.
as well as looking up plenty of good boss guides out there on YT@@SwitchUpYt
Use the arena to your advantage. Those pillars are vital to survival and keeping the bosses isolated. I find that dodge-rolling in this fight is way more important than blocking, especially with the lightning attacks penetrating through most shields. The pillars can provide blocking when needed. Goes without saying but make sure to only heal when you know it is safe (get as far away as possible and try to keep a pillar between you them - they can close distance fast.)
Try to focus on one at a time. I usually try to beat Smough first, but that may not be recommended. Whichever one you leave for last gets beefed up with a couple of additional attacks, and IIRC there seems to be a consensus that Smough is the easier of the two. Keep in mind though, that you can only obtain the weapon and armor of the second one you kill for that playthrough. That’s why I usually choose Orstein: Dragonslayer Spear and armor is too cool.
And just so you know, they are far from the final bosses of the game, but are arguably the most difficult…of the base game at least. IMO they are also the most fun.
Hope you get back into the game. I believe it to be one of the greatest of all time.
BOTW/TOTK instant classics! Well deserving entry into this list!
When I get lost, I open up the map
My favorite open world games are both Zelda, especially totk, and Skyrim... I mean, i really love that game, I don't know other game more inmersive, the dialogs, the world, music, npcs, quests etc. For me that game is epic :)
I think there's actually three types of Zelda game now. The open world BOTW series and the 2D Zelda like you mention but there's also the semi-linear 3D games like Ocarina, Windwaker etc. I really hope Nintendo make more of those rather than sticking to the BOTW format for the 3D games.
Ive been "literally lost" in No Mans Sky quintillion worlds.
Hope Kingdoms of Amalur made the list. It runs really well on Switch and actually looks good. Also, you referring to Ornstein and Smough as twins made me laugh.
I'm New to the switch so this has definitely given me some ideas of which games to pick up. Cheers Guys.
Coincidentally, Witcher 3 is currently discounted, good timing with the video! =D
Zelda is still taking a lot of my time. I've tempted with a few of these though. I completed red dead on playstation years ago, great game!
Borderlands, Dying Light, Darks Souls and Skyrim. Those are really cool games for those days you don't wanna do anything else but gaming and chill.
How’s divinity run on switch?
Witcher 3, Breath of the Wild, and (probably on the next vid) Skyrim, minus the bugs and glitches, have been a good showing of the switches capabilities early on. Got Dark Arisen in the backlog… Next open world purchase will probably be Red Dead Redemption.
Might have to check out Wasteland 2
Skull & Bones finally out sooooooo I play AC4 Black Flag again on my Switch!
Such a great game. 😁
The Witcher 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. It's definitely in my top 3. The world, characters, and overall vibe are just amazing in my opinion
You have it backwards Fallout is based on Wasteland. Wasteland came out in 86 Fallout came out in 97.
It showcases the wealth of options available with the switch that you have to split this into three videos! So many great open world options, with such variety in genre and gameplay.
I would love to see The Saboteur ported to switch! That was a fantastic game.
Been following you guys since i first bought the Switch with Witcher 3 and.... I still haven't completed the game 😅 so good though
Some great open world games on the Switch! Zelda, Hogwarts, Assassin's Creed, Arceus, Witcher... Can't wait to see what open world games look like on the next Switch iteration!
About a month into Witcher 3 - very open world but many were right in that randomly veering off one of the many paths is somewhat useless. What a game though.
Wasteland 2 is a massively underrated game, so glad it has got some recognition. It may also be time for me to jump back into the Witcher three and just invest in the complete collection.
Just got my spare OLED modchipped. Overclocking is a Revelation! It's the Switch Pro I've been waiting for! Hogwarts Legacy at 720p locked 30fps handheld feels on par with Steamdedk
I know some people will take issue with your including games that have loading between areas, but that just makes me think about the fact that Xenoblade Chronicles X still never got a port. It's basically the last really great exclusive locked into the Wii U hardware.
I just finished playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and it was absolutely fantastic. It dragged on a bit toward the end but I think that was because I was playing nothing else for almost 5 months
No man’s sky will 100% appear on the next list.. unreal to get lost in
lovely video 🎈🎈🎈
