Lots of people swear by putting mayo on grilled cheese instead of butter but honestly, I don't get it. Mayo tastes bad when cooked and also its moisture content makes for a bad crunch.

I use mayo to sear chicken (seasonings adhere better compared to oil). That reeking dog element is probably from store bought mayo, if you make homade unflavored mayo it's basically indistinguishable from regular oil.

This is wrong, mayo is definitively a better lubricant for grilled cheese giving it an orange colour making it crisper and giving a vinegary kick, I even basted a steak in mayo when I was out of options and it was delicious

Yeah, it's pretty standard to replace butter with mayo when toasting buns. Fortunately, I've never tried it and never will now.

I use Olive oil spread or an Olive oil / butter blend spread. I make a Ham, Cheese , Tomato 🍅 toastie & I use Stone baked Seeded Sourdough bread. I know that sounds a wee bit posh, but that's the way I like it ❗ I cannot have mayo & I don't like it as it sends my blood sugars through the roof. I'm a diabetic. BTW, Butter tastes heaps better than Mayo or Margarine. Besides, I hate the taste of margarine. Remember: BUTTER 🧈 TASTES BETTER 👀👍❗

@Candace Shelton Mayonaise has vinegar in it. Its fine for most things we use vinegar on but I wouldnt want that taste on grilled cheese. If it goes away by cooking then its fine if not I will never eat the mayo grilled cheese
