There's definetly more drugs on the market than Pokemon, that might be why

Let's be fair here: these are mostly American brand names, so it makes sense that a British doctor wouldn't have heard of these medications.
I thought they sounded like American brand names.
As an American nurse I can say some of these drugs are obscure and I don't think being British has a lot to do with it. Incivek for an example was discontinued 5 years ago, I think I have seen Benicar once. Januvia, I have seen maybe two or three times, most people take metformin. Tricor sounds familiar but don't remember giving out this medication. In the same realm, Rosuvastatin (Crestor) shows up from time to time but pravastatin and atorvastatin are more common. Vinblastine is not something I would come across since cancer treatment is a specialty. As for knowing generic over brand name it depends on the drug and who is writing the order. Most of the time they use generic names, but occasionally they use brand names. For an example even though I see metformin like 10 times a day I wouldn't have a clue what the brand name is. One of the few examples of a brand name being used over the generic is eliquis, I know what the generic name looks like but couldn't say it without looking it up.
Also Tranquill wouldve tricked anyone who heard of Nyquil and Dayquil it fits tooo well
We don't use brand names at all here so it probably does contribute a bit. If I'm drawing up drugs for a patient we only use their formal name on their drug charts/ patient prescriptions and that's how they're listed in the British National Formulary. Brand names aren't used at all

i think its just they have similar naming schemes, where for lots of medicine part of its names comes from chemicals that make it up and part from actions it does, where as for pokemon their names usually come from elements that they specialize in and what what they look like.

A hint: A lot of Pokemon names are a play on certain words or characteristics. If a name does not remind you of anything, chances are its not a Pokemon. There are a few exceptions (Lucario, for instance) and some are plays on the names of other pokemon (Riolu, Sirfetch'd, Cleffa) but its a good place to start.
Lucario is wolf-like. "Luca-" could allude to " _Lupus_ " , which is Latin for "wolf".
Well, Pokemon names are sometimes pretty deep
@@meepoffaith6153 mainly legendary pokémon have very deep origins
Often brand names are too, though... e.g. "tricor" for "triglyceride" and "heart, " "spiriva" for breathing (inspiration), "novolog" for "new" and "analog" (i.e. substitute); or sometimes they are plays on the generic name or on a familiar related drug (not on this list but Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro come to mind). So maybe what's more important is *what* they remind you of.

A thing to keep in mind with pokemon names is that they are often puns. Like Tranquill is a combination of tranquil and quill which is basically like a feather or spike/spine. Same with Quilava which was a combination of quill and lava due to its firey spines and its fire type. You can often work out some pokemons species, typings, or themes through their names. Doesnt always work, especially with legendaries which tend to keep their japanese names for the most part but it's helpful. Another example with Illumise is that it's a firefly. Illuminate. The last part could be a reference to it being a female pokemon since it sounds like miss but not entirely sure on that myself.
