Texas native Matthew McConaughey is one of Hollywood's most sought-after leading men. A chance meeting in Austin with casting director and producer Don Phillips led him to director Richard Linklater, who launched the actor's career in the cult classic Dazed and Confused. Since then, he has appeared in over 40 feature films that have grossed over $1 billion; and has become a producer, director, and philanthropist -- all the while sticking to his Texas roots and "jk livin'" ["just keep living"] philosophy.
2012 saw him spotlighted in four diverse performances. He won a Spirit Award for his portrayal of Dallas Rising in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, and was named the year's Best Supporting Actor by both the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics for his work in Magic Mike and Richard Linklater's Bernie. Mr. McConaughey also received acclaim for his performance in Lee Daniels' The Paperboy, and was a Spirit Award nominee for playing the title role in William Friedkin's Killer Joe.
April 2013 saw the release of Jeff Nichols' Mud, which received rave reviews and was a sleeper hit in the national box office top 10 for five weeks. He stars opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, opening in November 2013. In the first quarter of 2014, he will be seen starring alongside Woody Harrelson in the HBO dramatic series True Detective. Mr. McConaughey is currently at work filming Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, for release in November 2014.

He earned a People's Choice Award for Sahara, directed by Breck Eisner, the first feature made by his production company j.k. livin productions.
In 2008, Mr. McConaughey started The just keep livin Foundation (www.jklivinfoundation.org), which is dedicated to helping boys and girls transform into men and women through programs that teach the importance of decision-making, health, education, and active living. The Foundation has partnered with Communities in Schools (CIS) -- the nation's largest, non-profit, dropout-prevention organization -in West Los Angeles to implement fitness and wellness programs in two large urban high schools. Through an afterschool program, they are able to give kids a healthy start in life and the promise of a healthy future. - Zábava

He is SUCH a good storyteller. It comes from his Texas roots, I believe. I know people from the Uvalde/Hill Country area and they are the best storytellers. Could hear them talk all day.
The interviewer is amazing! She really gives him room for lovely answers as well as putting in some of her own personality into the convo.
When he started talking about Dallas Buyers Club, you could really tell how much not only that film meant to him but more important, how much the man he portrayed meant to him! He looked like was about to cry and as he was telling the story you could feel his emotions. Matthew is a different beast! A huge inspiration!! Definitely a 🐐 of acting hands down! Salute👊🏾

"The Forrest Gump of Hollywood" hahaha I seriously love him! Matthew is a darn good storyteller! He is the type of person I would invite over for dinner or have a drink at the front porch and I would not get bored from hearing whatever stories he has to tell. I enjoyed every minute of this interview :)
Hahahaha totally agree, he's from my hometown (longview, tx) and i really feel his talent as an orator is a southern trait. He tells a story like so many of the southern boys down here haha!
For a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY long time, I finally see, intelligent, NON INTRUSIVE!!, and interesting interviewer.
He was raised with a great dad and mom in Texas. Heritage is paramount! When you’re raised in Texas, you get it - respect everyone - especially females, obey your parents, friendly to strangers, be the Good Samaritan, God is part of your life everyday Take care of the land you live. It breeds confidence. Most Texas are great storytellers.

Great actor. He must've really empathized with Ron Woodroof. It looks like hes about to cry when talking about his diary @ 1:20:03 . Either way this is a great interview & one of my favorites from SAG.
My dad was a soldier and that's all life was about for the family. We knew he could draw but he never had time for it. What free time he did have he spent playing or teaching the bagpipes. After he passed away I was organizing his stuff and we found tons of artwork he had done, all this cool military stuff, historical stuff. I have always been the black sheep of the family, focusing on art, music and film, but I never knew where it came from. I made a surreal low budget art house film called Gyrus. It's a very strange film and now I wish I could know what my dad would think about his lineage producing something like that.
Got to love Mr McConaugey!! Brilliant, witty and so funny and full of life, it's contagious! :-) Wish I was around bright souls like this more often! X

Can’t believe you mentioned the “hands on a hard body” contest. I was there in 1992 when Benny Perkins won; working as a DJ at KYKX. Amazing. Sometimes I feel like McConaughey is a big brother leading the way for the small town folks back home.

I had two unique experiences involving the movie Mud. One, they were shooting on location at a boat landing on the river. My boat was tied up at that landing and I needed to go run my nets. There was a huge argument because it was in the scene and they wouldn't let me get my boat. Eventually it got worked out. The other was there was a scene in the movie showing a movie theater. I actually was IN that theater watching that movie. That was a first.

Matthew McConoughey is such a great story teller and conversationalist, he'd be fun to listen to in just about any interview situation. Add Jenelle Riley doing the interviewing, though, and I could listen for H O U R S. Very sorry to come to the end of this one, you know?

I have to say that one of the most "wow" rolls over seen him play where I was shocked at how chilling he was and believable to where it was like hearing about someone like btk was a neighbor and disbelief type of thing was where he played that villain sheriff the chicken scene. It hit me like Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet did. Killer Joe was the title of it. Or of all the movies that have had a deeper than usual impression on me he has been in more of them than any other actor has. Mud, Dallas buyers club, wolf of wall street, killer Joe, the dark tower, and I probably missed a couple more.

oh man. I guess interstellar had not been made when this interview occured. my favorite movie of his. honestly though, he is one of the coolest actors ever . you can tell he loves his job and has a great sense of humor. you don't see the same joy in a lot of actors. they seem miserable in their life sometimes.
