- So many franchises have an absolute crackin' beginning and then it's all downhill from there. Are these franchises better off dead? Monetarily certainly not but did we really need five Pirates of the Caribbean movies? Or three Matrix movies? Or three Robocop movies and a reboot? Or however many Ghostbusters movies there are? Who knows? Thanks for watching and if you want to hear the full convo it's right here: • Franchises That Should...

I can’t believe you did or didn’t mention that thing I like or don’t like
How dare or not dare they!
No likey thumbs up for mason from you
Double O'Sullivan Wait what
Meee tooo!
Or Terminator
Paul Rudd is a franchise that should NEVER die.
That's Rudde of you, the guy needs some rest
How was this comment posted 11 hours ago when the video was uploaded 1 hour ago?
Legitimately love him man, broccoli man my dude one of the infinitely quotable Tim and Eric sketch
Judging by the fact that he hasn't aged since 2002, I'm starting to think that Paul Rudd is actually immortal
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodin994 Ever watch a channel called "fact fiend" the guy who runs it is a bit of a dick, but that aside he made a video where tons of studios are pissed off he doesnt seem to age, like marvel had to make 3d images of alot of their actors so they could do flashbacks and the like (like teenage tony stark in civil war) they didnt have to do that for paul rudd and even to this day are super confused why.
Me: Why is there so much Paul Rudd in this?
(See's The Path of Neo mixed with the Ant-Man promo)
Me: The Paul Rudd clips were built up to that moment, bravo.
i miss your videos
@@GoldenPickaxe In a few days, new videos are coming.
AND the new GB, there's so many layers.
@@GenerationWest this makes me giddy thank you
we are apparently now living in the RuddVerse. Paul Rudd is in everything. including omelettes and spare tires.
I thought this was Rudd-y fantastic (even if Zoolander 2 was or wasn't discussed).
*rUdD-y*
Zoolander 2 needs to exist just for the Ariana Grande appearance. Yup I said it
It was in the longer cut
Same here haha 💯
czcams.com/video/_lKBrJAM1qM/video.html
It was discussed. Watch it again
Surprised you didn’t talk about terminator, I think that’s an obvious choice for discussion
They did in the podcast
Terminator is a really interesting one for this. On the one hand you have Judgment Day, one of the greatest sequels ever. Then on the other you have a string of bad sequels/ trilogy starters. Do you keep one good sequel and four bad ones or loose the whole lot?
@@doctorvanya it's almost worse that way, right? Terminator was a fine film, but I feel like terminator 2 was the highlight of the franchise and is what made everyone love it. If judgement day alone was wiped out, would people even care about the franchise getting drug through the dirt for the other 5 films? The first sequel brought the series to new heights and then every other sequel fucked it up
@@arthand7672 I have made the exact same argument against Star Wars
@@BananaMystic I'll be honest with you... the good star wars films came out before I was born and I liked them well enough, but I grew up playing the star wars games. Star wars is a franchise with many great games, books, comics, shows.... and a bunch of garbage films. Its honestly sad how it's a film franchise that lost the ability to make good films decades ago especially when other mediums keep showing that there are great stories left to be told in the universe
"I'm amazed they haven't done a Speed 3."
Well you obviously haven't seen the episode of Father Ted S3 E3 'Speed 3'.
“There’s a bomb on the milk float!”
“A bomb. Who’s that for?”
The irony is they mentioned it on the pod 😂
I was thinking exactly the same thing!
Found the Irish lad!
The real reason not to eliminate Speed 2 ; )
Why did Paul Rudd feature so heavily in the video? 😂
Pretty sure just for the matrix ants joke with Michael Douglas
Coz he's awesome
Ants
@@RocafellaPlaza82 does Joe Biden voice a lot of support for ants?
@@cymphony9798 i understood that reference !
I’m suprised fast and furious wasn’t mentioned
Fast and furious should’ve died after 7 man
Or Jurassic Park, they should of only made one.
@@kingsman5121 Nah after 4. 5 is when stuff went off the rails
It was you just have to watch the video again or the extended one
Don't forget about Halloween
13 movies is too much man 🤦🏻♂️
Can't wait for the next episode, "Seven Franchises That Should Die 2: Cruise Control"
@Pablo Fawkes Oh man, I hope they include Tom Cruise films. That'd be so Incruisable!
James Hunt INCRUISABLE!!!!!!
Did someone say podcast franchises that should die?
Bloody got 'em.
AW COME ON MATE
I still maintain that the "2 Fast 2 Furious" is the best version of sequel title-ing
2 fast 2 boogaloo
Breakin 2 electric boogaloo
2 fast 2 furious 2 me 2 you
Just wait until we get Fas10 Your Seatbelts
@@MicoDossun if we don't get that as a poster, I'm not seeing that movie.
Scream, saw, final destination, the fast and the furious, pirates of the caribbean, etc series need no more sequels or remakes. Plot development is more of an exigent priority because if the story sucks nobody is going to want to see it and you'll lose money. Story first, money second. Okay Hollywood?!!!
Some of the movies that Disney plans to make Live Action are going to die.
Yes.
More like all of them.
Oh come on. Aladdin was... tolerable.
@@Noplayster13
In parts.
The Jazz King I mean sure, I’d redo everything having to do with Jazmine, but the rest of it was... ok
Donnie Darko had a sequel? What? Also, while googling that... I found out that American Psycho had a sequel too. I was today years old when I found out this information.
I saw both of them and neither were all that good.
Carrie had one too and it was mediocre at best.
@@timbuckjr9081 I just did some research on them. Especially American Psycho. And by that, I mean I watched a couple of CZcams videos reviewing it in entertaining ways.
All I gotta say is, holy sh*t! What a massive pile of garbage. Like American Psycho is hands down one of the best darn films I've seen in my lifetime & the sequel basically took a massive dump on it.
It's BARELY even a sequel. You can honestly call it literally ANYTHING else & it wouldn't change a freaking thing.
They talked about American Psycho 2 in the podcast. It was actually a separate movie until the producers inserted the connection, like an early attempt at a Cloverfield franchise.
i guess the real franchise was all the friends we made along the way
Would cancel after the first.
Seven Franchises That Should Die 2: Cruise Control
You can't eliminate pirates 2 and 3, I won't let you. They have some of my favorite movie soundtracks.
We do have a SPEED 3. It's called "The Lake House."
lmao
Speed 3 was an episode of Father Ted
Still better than speed 2
Yeah, that sucked. Had something to do with a mailbox...
Lol I saw bits and pieces of that movie because that was the year I started working for Regal and I saw parts of it when I did auditorium checks.
Starship troopers franchise after the first actually really sucks.
And also......why there is also so much Paul Rudd in this video 😂
You can never have too much Paul Rudd .
In america it sucked,in other countries it was actually pretty successful!
So they could make that Ant-man joke about Neo fighting giant ants in matrix...
czcams.com/video/YppuqZEp58o/video.html
More like Paul dudd
I’m surprised they didn’t mention Predator, which arguably has only had one good movie.
Mr Sunday Movies has mentioned before that he really likes Predators
Predator 2 is pretty damn decent and Predators is a fairly solid film. "The Predator" is so so so so so damn awful that it retroactively drags them down to cutsville.
@@nutsandgum agreed.
The only Predator movie that I consider awful is Thd Predator. All the other ones are fine
Predators is really good tho
The best one was clearly the one with Danny Glover.
I heard this on the pod was surprised they didn't say Jurassic Park. The first one is still the best
Yeah but there isn’t a really bad one. Even the bad one is average haha
@@joshhunt4146 There's 4 bad ones
@Josh Hunt Lost World is the closest to being good but even then it’s still a drag compared to first one. 3, World and Lost Kingdom can suck dino balls.
Lost World & Jurassic World are enjoyable, Jurassic Park 3 is average, Fallen Kingdom is really the only one I'd call complete trash.
Every Jurassic Park sequel really missed what made that first movie work. Every sequel is just a PG13 slasher with dinosaurs.
6 year old me: "Man why does it have to take a whole year or two for new Ice Age movies? They'd make so much more money if there was a new one everyday!"
21 year old me: [every franchise I have ever loved has been milked dry before my very eyes] @,v@,
That "what about this?" Aunty Donna transition was **chefs kiss** 👌🏻
The pain in James’s voice when he’s talking about transformers, it really ruined him
I definitely wouldn't erase the first tree Pirates of the Caribbean, those movies are awesome.
First three are alright, 4 and 5 can go sink to Davy’s Jones locker.
I actually liked 5 more than 3. But since I think only 1, 2, and 5 are the good ones, I'm tempted to just let the franchise be a one and done given the choice.
2 and 3 are not good enough to justify keeping 4 and 5. Get rid of them all.
What are Tree Pirates? Do they drop down from branches and rob passersby?
They are all cool, some more than others
We need a sequel to this video. Call it "Franchises that can die 2: Cruise Control"
If you remove everything after ghostbusters, you lose the cartoons as well.....not sure it’s worth that
Yes, verry much worth it
Yeah but we would get rid of that all women ghost busters. Which is enough to delete the entire thing in existence
Maybe do a follow up video titled: “movies that should be turned into a franchise “ next weak.
Collings and Ben really make it worth it watching the video even if you have already listened to it on the podcast, great work you’all!
Highlander- The sequels never happened, there can only be one!
Yessssh.
And they're doing a remake now 🤷♂️🤦🏻♂️
Never realized how much Paul Rudd this channel was lacking till just now. Take this like
“It’s just like speed 2, but with a bus instead”
- Milhouse
That reminds me of the movie... "The Bus that Couldn't Slow Down."
Wow. Just found this channel. Love it. I'm an instant subscriber.
"where all the Pink Floyd albums are on the backs of naked ladies"
I had that poster pinned up in my dorm room 20 years ago. Damnit, Mason, way to make me feel old.
You want to feel really old? I had that poster in my shared dorm 5 years ago, because the girls in the house thought it was "artistic" and only today have I found out those are album covers.
@@kieran10202, ouch. It's hard to believe nobody recognized Dark Side of the Moon. It's an iconic album cover.
You know what bugs me about that Matrix bullet dodge scene every time I see it...
It's the same shit that bothers Star Wars fans about the line "Luke, I am your Father!" in movies and TV. That isn't the line.
You always see people do the stupid bullet dodge by leaning back and then standing up with karate fists or whatever...
Nope. Neo literally just throws himself on the ground. Were watching him just fall over backwards in SloMo. It wasn't meant to be super cool or action-ey. It was meant to show how outclassed he was by the agents. They dodge bullets by standing and moving all stoic and perfectly, he just throws himself backwards onto the floor like an idiot and still gets hit. Trinity has to come save his ass.
It's just wrong whenever its copied or parodied. Not just wrong in execution, but wrong in tone.
That's like if people coped the line "No, I AM your Father." as "Luke, I am your Father!" as a loving father/son reunion. Just missing the entire point of the scene altogether.
Rant over.
Just thought I'd share.
Sorry to see that this greatly troubles you as well. I reckon we ought to start a support group. We'll get through this, buddy.
I think this debate would be more difficult if the question was "Would you eliminate ALL the movies in a franchise (including the first - probably good - one) just to get rid of all the bad sequels?"
Or maybe "If not the first - probably good - one, which movie from a franchise would you keep if you could keep just one?"
The thing about pirates of the Caribbean is that the 2-4 aren’t unbelievably bad, there are just so many plot holes, and every movie but maybe the third are the same. They just travel to some island and find some hidden treasure. The only reason three is different is because they already found the treasure, someone just stole it and they have to steal it back.
The real ones watched the podcast that made this video
Broke: sacrifice bumblebee to get rid of the transformers movie franchise
Woke: make the bumblebee movie transformers 1
That's some galaxy brain thinking, right there
Mason I am SO HAPPY to hear someone else who actually knows and loves the Robocop 3 game for Amiga. I literally feel like I imagined that game because no one else remembers it. Remember the bloody flipping 3D ninja?? RIDICULOUS. The driving? FASCINATING. Are we the exact same age?
MUST WATCH
"Speed 3" is the third episode of the third series of the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted and the 20th episode overall. The episode parodies the action-thriller film Speed and the sequel Speed 2: Cruise Control. "Speed 3" was written after the show's writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews asked themselves: "How can we make a worse sequel than Speed 2?"
This new editor sure does like that ant man guy
There's a lot of Paul Rudd in here... and I'm not complaining
Mr Sunday always uploads before I have school on a MONDAY
so worth it though
The Matrix should not die! It has only had three movies released and the fourth one isn’t even done filming.
I love pirates 3. They should’ve just kept it a trilogy.
But Money 💰
The first 3 are great, 4 has isolated moments and Ian McShane, 5 was just...not good.
@Jonna Hejike
I love Pirates 3, but it did cut the best scene

I love it when u reference auntie Donna. Its thanks to u guys I even know about them and for that I'm eternally grateful. Love ur channel and the podcast x
8:03 the first Pirates ended "And they lived happily ever after, the end." that was perfect
What video did the first few seconds of this video come from of the podcast room?
I only discovered your channel a few days ago and I've been binging, but this 'erase Ghostbusters' has me feeling personally affronted and betrayed, by my own countrymen what's more. Erase the 2016 one by all means but I'm heckin' excited for the new one - it's got vibes like the animated series which is an absolute banger and the best morning cartoon ever.
Well... this aged poorly.
"Speed 3 cruiseapalloza" Mission impossible crossover
Jesus that collage of mid-2000s dorm room posters was spot-on. Just fucking spot-on. Throw in the Trainspotting "Choose Life" poster for the cherry on top.

I love that Paul Rudd was the main character of this video.
FOR ME THE MOVIE SEQUELS I'D GET RID OF, HIGHLANDER.
There can be only one.
@@cadekachelmeier7251 You made me smile with that one, thank you :)
I like pirates 2 and 3 and think they work as a trilogy, but I don’t like 4 and 5 so I guess I’d have to eliminate all of them
bigevilworldwide yeah I agree Johnny Depp was acting like he forgot how to play Jack Sparrow, non of The badass elements from the originals were there or even the clever comedy, just slapstick jokes
How about Men in Black? I kinda like the third one, but the first one is infinitely rewatchable, and 2 and 4 don't do a thing for me. I'd flashy thingy the third one out of my brain.
It does kinda bum me out that we can't stop after the SECOND movie in a franchise, because I'd take that deal with Terminator, Alien, and Superman.
You should call the follow-up episode “Seven Franchises That Should Die: Cruise Control”.
Starring Paul Rudd
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the best franchises out there, I watch the series at least once a year; so no, it most definitely should not end. There are so many memorable moments in each movie, the skeletons walking underwarer, the kraken, the fight in the whirlpool, the ocean splitting in two, all iconic scenes. And that's not even talking about the characters, wich almost EVERYONE recognizes instantly around the world.
And the die hard fanboys growing their hair long wearing moustaches and shit 😑😐
Ocean partings been done more than a few times. In a dusty old book and movies too.
Terminator franchise - would you lose T2 to avoid Genysis and Dark Fate ever existing? That is the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind.
The butt / but edit on the robocop bit is really underrated 👍🏼 and as I keep watching it’s truly the gift that keeps on giving, damn
That “ants” edit 😂
I’ve noticed Paul Rudd is a recurring motif here, any reason?
How dare you question Paul Rudd’s presence!
Already listened to the podcast, but always back just to see Ben's edits
Good video but was surprised you didn’t mention so many other franchises with excellent first entries, good to great second entries and then questionable ones after as that would be the real test of what should stay or go.
Examples of franchises:
Jurassic Park
Alien
Terminator
Indiana Jones
Star Wars
Back to the Future
Mission Impossible (which you’re doing now)
Saw
Paranormal Activity
Most of those are still making movies to their franchises, at least until recently (Terminator).
Having read some more comments it seems they talked about some of these in the podcast so my apologies.
Jurassic Park is the closest mankind has come to a perfect movie. The sequels are increasingly deformed lab grown clones that escape and kill the audience.
Hey alan
The Princess Bride
Walk Hard
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Back to the Future (1, 2, and 3)
Die Hard
I'd probably add:
The Star Wars sequels (Disney's)
X-Men
Sharknado
X-men 2 was the best entry in the franchise. Apart from that though, I agree.
Star Wars absolutely. The original trilogy is the only good thing.
Would rather Disney’s sequels than the prequel trilogy. At least they are actually good films.
Josh Hunt Unrelated question. Does a thumbs down on a comment do anything?
Just watch the original trilogy, Rogue One and The Mandalorian and pretend the other live action stuff doesn’t exist.
when it come to Pirates of the Caribbean I would keep 1-2-3 and eliminate 4 &5 (yes they made 5)
4 wasn't even a Pirates movie, it was an adaptation of the novel On Stranger Tides and then they slapped the PotC logo on it (which they did previously with a video game). I mean they spend most of the movie walking around an island, no actual piracy involved.
5 is kinda good but but i hate it because it makes the prequel novel The Price Of Freedom non canon by retconing the origin of the Black Pearl, I loved that novel and disregarding it like that is unforgivable
i wouldn't eliminate 2 & 3 because the Kraken and Davy Jones are too awesome to throw away
+++ No sequels for:
- Jurassic Park
- Indiana Johns... after The Last Crusade
- The Terminator... after The Judgement Day (or maybe The Terminator 3)
- 300
- No "Amazing Spiderman"
- Superman
there are many more...
“what do you think about this?” - Mark Banana
I now want to buy a Paul Rudd.
I still get pissed off that the director of Starship Troopers did not READ THE FUCKING NOVEL. *ARGGGGGGGGG*
You know how couples start to look like each other after a while? You guys have achieved that now
This hasn't happened yet but the prospect of a "Joker Trilogy" makes me want to puke my liver.
That movie doesn't need a sequel or be franchise, but sadly I don't control WB.
Hello there
That's not your line
Come on Anakin this is not what you're about
Mr Sunday Movies it is know
Speed 3: Go off the rails (Train)
Speed 4: On a wing and a prayer (Airplane)
Spped 5: Over the moon (Space shuttle)
Donnie Darko is absolutely my favourite film and it holds up great and is always a good watch.
just putting this out there........
Planet of the Apes
Movies that should've been one-and-done: Jaws, Psycho, The Exorcist, Toy Story, Superman, Universal Soldiers, Crocodile Dundee, Rush Hour, Men In Black, Taken.
Psycho 2 is actually a great movie, despite everything. As is Superman 2 (both versions).
I literally can't disagree with any of those. But I'd add Jurassic Park to the list.
Oh wait no Superman 2 is classic as it was always written to directly follow Superman.
I loved Rush Hour 2 and 3 even though it was pretty much the same movie as the first
Come on, you must be trolling. Exorcist III is great to name but one.
I listened to the podcast, and you guys didn't mention a phenomenon that started the entire found footage genre: Blair Witch Project, which had 2 sequels-Blair Witch 2: Back in the Habit, and Blair Witch 3: Blair Witcher. (Or something.)
Y’all should’ve mentioned the Texas chainsaw massacre movies, because out of all the slasher films they are the most disconnected and revamped. Every movie was a new family, a new leather face, a new timeline… etc and even last year they made a new movie that was horrible to no surprise.
The pirates franchise is awesome, it’s only the 5th installment that’s actually bad. The 4th has great moments, it’s just forgettable. 1-3 is a perfect trilogy. Whatever comments you have about Dead Mans chest or at worlds end you have, I don’t care
I stoped watching Jane the virgin for this. I know nobody cares but I think they should make a shirt with that on it. Any shirt with Jane the virgin on it should be a thing. You know what I’m just gonna give up on this comment.
More! Always more content! Love it. This was a fun one.
People may not like the sound of this but star wars as we know it needs to die, make a new story in the far future of starwars is the best thing to do, new characters and the ones we knew should have been storys and ledgends thats it
Let’s see how many people get mad from this video

The Star Trek franchise should have stopped before JJ Abrams got his sticky hands on it.
Literally all the next gen films are trash. They should have stopped at 6.
@@Bloodynine606 Incorrect.

Laughs in fast and furious
@@saintniccage2818 That makes no sense when 5 is generally agreed to be the best of the franchise.
Did you do terminator on big sandwich?
Give yourselves a challenge guys. All these are pretty obvious but if it comes down to get rid of all the sequels or have to keep them all, what would you do with the Terminator? Is it worth having 3-6 for the sake of T2's existence?
How about Aliens? Die Hard? Star Wars? A Nightmare on Elm Street? Friday the 13th? Thor? Sam Raimi's Spiderman? Toy Story? Mission Impossible? The X-Men franchise including Logan? And is yes, the X-Men franchise including Logan and Deapool?
So, um, what's up with RawCollings man crush with Paul Rudd? Great editing, but I am confused.
I mean, he's a bit of a Paul Studd.
Franchises that should die!
Answer: Any franchise with more than 3 movies
they should do one final terminator movie where they prevent the nukes and it's sarah conner and john going to that T2 playground and seeing the kids on the swings, then fade to white then credits
That's literally the special edition ending to T2. Sarah Connor sits on the park bench and talks to a recorder while she watches John playing with his kid.
I had a Shawshank Redemption poster on my wall in my 1st year of college in 1998.
Any chance y’all could do a cloverfield series of vids. About the three cloverfield movies
You don't need to cut out Bumble Bee because it fits very well as a prequel to the Transformers movies. In fact, you can call Bumble Bee "Transformers Part 1", then get rid of everything after that.
Some real Jurassic Snark here on these franchises. It’s still surreal seeing James & Maso in live action
I've become numb to it now, but i'll always love my goat head mr. Sunday more.
Where can I find this footage of live action james and maseau??? This is what I need, pur two favorite boys goofin' around.
