- Thanks to the team at Perkins Custom Coatings for doing such an awesome job: www.perkinscustomcoatings.com/ As I researched ways to turn the garage into an EPIC workshop for the homestead, I came across polyaspartic garage floor coatings. Then I got into the whole polyaspartic vs. epoxy debate, and finally decided that YES, this is something I wanted for my garage.
A clean workspace that looks nice is essential if I'm going to be spending time building projects and working out in the garage, so I bit the bullet and went with a garage floor coating. This video chronicles the entire process start to finish so you can see the detail involved in a job like this.
For reference, the quoted price was $1,970 but the oil spill and extra torching, etc. boosted the price by $800, so it's not a cheap thing to get done...but boy do I love the results.

I’m so happy for you!
All right skateboard video coming soon????
Might have to
@@epichomesteading I would break my hip I think if I try to get on one now. Lol it's been probably 20 years or more. Never got good at tricks on it. No that's not right it has by longer than that. I forgot how old I am 🤣
That looks so great! It's like a totally different room.
For walls think about a peg board style wall as well or similar looks clean and free up space
Great call
Totally agree ! Peg board walls for the win!
@@epichomesteading I've been looking at metal peg boards myself for long term durability.
This has been amazing for my garage
Or french cleats...
That was actually more interesting than I thought it would be. Nice.
Same here :)
I'm laughing ruefully that you now find yourself on the improvement treadmill. "Floor looks great! Wait, the walls look bad now. Okay, upgrade the walls! Huh, did the ceiling always look as horrible or am I just noticing it now? Okay, ceiling next. Wait, now the driveway looks kinda run-down..."
(Also, my day job is in a field adjacent to Environmental Health & Safety and at about 6:30 I found myself thinking "respirators! where are your respirators while you're grinding all that off the floor? please don't cause yourself some kind of horrible long-term illness!")
LOL trust me I know I'm on the treadmill...and running full speed. And yeah not sure why they didn't use them
Yes! I noticed the lack of a respirator there as well and thought the exact same thing.
I was thinking that too, we take that stuff super seriously in Australia as we have had tonnes of tradies get respiratory illnesses from grinding down materials
I noticed the same. I know it was eleventy hundred degrees out there, but most of us only get one set if lungs. Lifetime risk is short for you as an observer, but I worry about the guys working every day on it.
They do beautiful work. I would hate to see them taken out prematurely by the lung injuries this kind of exposure causes. OSHA currently fails to regulate exposure, but I think CA might be considering it at a state level. I follow east coast news more closely, and silicate dust protection is all at "employer discretion" here.
When my parents bought their house back in the mid 1950s, it did not come with a garage. But, they, along with a couple of friends built one. It was about a car and a half wide; so, bigger than a one car garage; but, not as big as a two car garage. My dad built a work table and cabinets. The table was hinged to the one of the cross beams along the wall. It could fold up out of the way and was easy enough to fold down when he wanted to work. Because it was a wide as it was my dad was able to work in the garage even when the car was parked inside.
The oil on the floor of your garage definitely needed attention; but, you garage looks more like a rec room than a garage with that shiny new floor. Some people consider building projects a form of recreation.
It will indeed be a form of recreation for me :)
Wow, this video about transforming a garage floor with epoxy flakes is really fascinating! The process seems straightforward, and the end result looks amazing. It's inspiring to see how a simple garage floor can be turned into something so visually appealing. Thanks for sharing this awesome video!
My uncle used it on his farm market floor and it's held up about 6 yrs. It still has its shine. Amazing product.
I love how you automatically answered questions, like why they used a different method for the outer area of the garage and what each step was for. Really enjoying your videos, thanks so much!
I work at a Sherwin Williams in Canada and it's so awesome to see how some of the products I deal with are used! So cool!!!
I never knew I’d learn so much about home renovations when I subscribed the epic gardening. It’s very satisfying and exciting to see the transformation of your home from start to finish.
Glad to hear it's still enjoyable :)
Saw someone mention pegboard. great idea. you may also lok into the idea of french cleats, which would provide sturdy places to hang shelves or even collapseable workspaces. That sort of modularity is crucial in a smaller space such as this. Love the videos!
Very cool! I love seeing the process and watching people who take pride in their workmanship!
Exactly the video I was looking for to push me to have it done in my house that is being built. Thank you!
So cool of you to show us how a polyaspartic garage floor is done! Love it! Thanks a bunch 💐
I've never heard of this type of flooring. It was really interesting and timely, as we are weighing options for flooring on a game room/rec room. Thanks!
Wow the detail on this is unreal!
The floor looks great! Good choice on the color. I also appreciate the tip about adding the sand on the strip to keep it from being too slippery. I need to look into that for the lip of my garage.
I’m so excited for your new homestead, it’s fun watching you get started with it!
I’ve been watching a ton of these videos. This is the best one yet. These workers did an awesome job, interesting to see them went through the whole process.
LOVED this one!! I hope you take us along as you work through your new place with the makeovers.
thanks to the guys for letting you show their process. it was very interesting to watch!
Good to see ppl take pride in their work. Looks great 👍
They did a great job - unbelievable!
definitely one of the best floor coating’s i have seen. truly awesome!
Yay you went with my recommendation! My stepdad will love this, he has the same floor and pattern, which is where I suggested it from. Having seen real pro concreters working, I agree with you that the quality of the job is all in the prep. I think you found good professionals which is great. It's so hard to find good tradespeople, it's the worst part of owning a house. Great video!
These guys were fantastic jamie!
What an incredible before and after!! That floor looks so beautiful. You chose a great company who did a really professional job. Really looks great. I'm going to think about that for my own garage which needs work done, too. Great vid. Thanks for sharing.
That’s pretty fascinating Kevin, and you are right, a highly professional team who clearly care about their work. Thanks for sharing :-)
These guys are awesome! Beautiful flooring!
Looks excellent!! Educational, too, with all the info about the process- thx for sharing!!
Fantastic presentation and reference to the way the job should be done! These guys are true craftsmen! Hope to find a company just as good in my area. Thanks for the presentation.
Garage floor looks fantastic! Great video.
I have a epoxy coating and metallic epoxy class in Las Vegas next month super stoked , i loved the detail the technicians did an amazing job on your garage floor 👍
This was fascinating, thank you for sharing. It's exciting to see you improve the various parts of the homestead.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting and your explanation was thorough and easy to follow!!
Have absolutely loved your progress in the new house! Love getting to see everything built up from scratch.
Can't wait to see what you'll make in here, and how the garden is coming along!
(I was definitely confused at the lack of respirators, but saw your comments saying that they had them and just didn't wear them. Huh.)
They really did a great job. Looks neat.
this was strangely extremely satisfying
Looks like you picked a great company to do this job! The final product looks fantastic!!!
Thanks for all the info including the price, Kevin...that's so helpful!
Those guys did an amazing job... I agree with others that you don't need to drywall your garage, there's so much potential here, just a new paint job and peg board or other sytem. Beautiful floor!!
Good gracious!!! Those guys killed it, seriously
They did an awesome job that floor looks amazing 👍🏻
Great video, hope nobody gets sick 💪
Thanks for putting up the price. I'm being bombarded with FB ads and none of them would disclose the estimate without knowing the details but it looks like it's very evolving. You chose the right company 👍
Looks great…getting mine done next week.
That floor looks fantastic!
Well that was a work of art 🎨 Nice job!
Nice seeing you make the house look better as well 😁
It's so fun to do these types of projects too :)
Yaaay this is sooo exciting!
Oh yes. It looks really nice!
Looks amazing, Kevin!
OMG super cool video. I loved seeing the whole process and I am really digging this channel. I honestly at first was only watching it because you posted it but became enthralled by the process as the video moved along! Looks awesome.
Trust me, same here!
I normally wouldn't watch a video about something like this but you kept a good flow.
High praise
On my wish list! Thank you for sharing the video and the referral. Now if you only needed a retaining wall. 😁
I’m loving this transformation process around your mini homestead Kevin, it’s super satisfying to watch and inspiring too! What will we see next I wonder?
Time will tell :)
Enjoyed the video, looking forward to more home improvements. Really need help fixing my parents old house too.
Kevin, I love all the content you create, that's why I'm subscribed...but THIS??? .........SUPER satisfying 😌 I feel like I've found my zen.
SOOOOO satisfying.
best garage floor i've ever seen
SAME
Great video on how to do this properly!!!👍
What an amazing transformation. Is good to see the complete process in one video, I've been keep track of it in IG :)
I am in Australia and have this in my garage and 10 years later it looks as good as the day applied. In fact during a Reno we tried to remove the coating from a adjacent storeroom and couldn’t budge it. So sturdy.
Glad to hear I can expect it to hold up!
This was a great video. Thank you. I would suggest 3/4 plywood for the walls instead of drywall. It is more expensive, but then you hang anything anywhere. No looking for stubs. Thanks again for the great video content.
Zero intention of ever doing this but it was super interesting to watch!! Very informative.
That's great to hear you still enjoyed!
looks like that's going to be a great workspace!
I'm so glad for you that that wasn't a water seep. It seemed strange considering what you said about drilling for water in the area, and it's great that it ended up being oil. In my area those kind of wet seeps are very common.
edit: *wasn't
What an interesting video!! I really loved this. The timelapse is really cool too. Enjoy the garage! x)
They did a super job on this; my guess is that they are definitely going to get some work because of this video, which is great!
I sure hope so!
Looks great! I'll tell you one thing. Once you do this type of flooring on your garage, it's a must have down the road if you want to move to another house..lol. I got spoiled having this type of garage flooring. It just makes the garage beautiful, more useful and clean up on the floor is eeeeaaassy. BTW, now you'll have to get a magnet sweeper when you start working on things with this type flooring. Finding screws, bolts, nuts, etc....can be a pain at times.
Wow it looks great! 👍
That floor is looking great, really lifts the look of the garage, as you said now there's only the ...rest of it... that you'd have to fix lol. Loving the chipped paint, reminds me of the flooring we had in science classes as they were super resistant against anything being dropped.
Yeah probably the same type of material! Gotta fix up the rest now... :P
That was really cool to see
Such detail - very cool!
Thank you!
Looks so nice
That looks amazing!
So much better than what it was before. So satisfying to watch this whole process 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@epichomesteading next step after the drywall is to "weather-proof" the garage? (To keep out that heat during summer.)
I agree. Leave the studs exposed and paint it. It really is nice knowing where those studs are. 😊
💯
Holy smokes that is slick!
Looks amazing! I 👀 that rower
Had to protect the baby :)
I’ve seen some pretty cool DIY pegboard walls. Could be a fun project to finish that space.
Interesting process, thanks for sharing
My pleasure
Love that floor! I neeeeeed that!! 😀😍
very cool. will you be expanding the outlets?
great video, pro team!
Looks awesome!! 👍🏼
Nice job!
Looks great!
What is the name of the leveling compound that they used? That stuff looks amazing.
Beautiful!
I have to say, the attention to details is off the charts. I hired someone to do my garage and lets just say I'm having someone else redo it.
Great detailed video, thank you. A few questions as its been a while now since installation. 1) Do you also need to add sand or paint chips to the Polyaspartic also as i heard it is even more slippery than Epoxy? 2) How has the floor held up so far, any issues or points you'd like to add? 3) did they give you a choice of going with sand instead of paint chips if you wanted one solid color? 4) Finally, I was wondering if there was ever discussion of just going with a straight Polyaspartic instead of mixing Epoxy and Aspartic? Thanks for your response!
Such a well made video...they should pay you!!!
Hi Kevin, great job and video, could you please precise which surface is this place ? You mention 70 pounds of chips which is around 30kg it seems huge I guess it’s the volume needed to get a complete covering?
Noiiice the classic Indo board. Yes that was my take away 😂
;)
Wow that’s some process for a workroom floor! In Florida they do this top coat for actual in home flooring ...pretty amazing technique.... put up pegboard on the walls instead of dry wall...most likely you’ll want to be hanging things down the road...it looks great btw
Pegboard makes a bunch of sense!
Looks great 👍🏿
Wow I bet you’ve got the best garage floor on the street, haha, looks great and I loved seeing the process 👍
That looks great!! It almost makes me want to redo mine. It looks like someone previously put some epoxy down WITHOUT cleaning the stained concrete first! 🤦🏾🤦🏾
... And just as I was saying that music at the end reminds me of one of the fitness channels I follow, I saw a rower! 😅
Oof, that's no fun :(
Hello thanks for sharing
Could we know ballparks the budget for such a job ?
is it possible to apply a self leaving screed instead of mechanically grinding?
Super nice!
Very nice.
honestly this video was so satisfying. I think you should redo the walls as well :)
