G-Shock Quick Fix #1: Burnt LCD background

  • A new series I just came up with while in isolation. LOL
    The point here is to find an quick and easy solution for common issues related with G-Shock. Especially from the vintage category.
    Here is an example of a burnt up lcd background. Noted that, this is not polariser related issue. Just a thin layer behind that lcd panel that give color hue to the display and in this case also helps with the contrast since it seems to have a reflective properties to it.
    This issue usually occur after long abuse under direct sunlight. My guess, the glue that sticks the thin layer to the lcd starts to flake after years of receiving sunlight.
    Anyway, about the scratch marks. That could be prevented if you really take your time with the by being gentle. Also if that really concern you, just remove the back polariser layer and replace that to a new one.
    This could happen to any digital G-Shock with background color accents. It is just a matter of time.
    Share your thoughts and idea in the comment section and maybe I’ll feature them in future video.
    Now time for some online shopping:
    1. Premium solar waveceptor:
    2. Cheaper alternative:
    3. Same but not the same:
    4. Totally different but popular:
    5. Something tough:
    Thanks for watching guys.
    Cheers!

    Great video ❤ you mentioned about not rubbing off the polarizer, is it part of the silver sheet? Or a separate layer at the back of the screen?

      @basicforge Před 3 měsíci +1

      The polarizer must still be there because LCD screens don't work without them.

    Ha ha, the LCD panel on my Made in China Hewlett Packard scientific calculator HP 35S has this problem. And it uses non-rechargeable CR2032 batteries.

    • @gshockhighfashion

      Seems like this solution is applicable everywhere. Noice!

    • @leewmlee
      @leewmlee Před 2 lety

      Was it difficult to open up the HP35S to access the LCD panel? My experience with these panels is once the rubber contact strips are removed from the LCD glass, I will get missing segments. With an old Casio calculator which doesn't have backlight, I put a strip of aluminium foil as a reflective surface, held in place by tiny tape at the edges. This method won't work with Casio watches as aluminium foil is opaque unless it is illuminated by LEDs at the side.
