I've been asked about this topic quite a bit over the last year or so, so I figured I'd make a video about how many hours we work and what we're paid for.
Silly Steven.... some people watch because they just LIKE you! I'll bet a lot goes over my husband's head, but he enjoys you and your personality so much, he will watch ANYTHING you put out, as do I. You could probably video a Buddy turd and we'd watch. I like how you present the information so we can absorb it. Some youtubers speak so fast the info flies by. I'm glad you can hold his attention when you are going over tedious info because some day he will need to know what you explain if he wants to understand his wife's job. (Positive thinking...not hired yet.) Love to you and Buddy!
Thank you for this, it was very informative and you are so well spoken. I have my Video Interview to complete by Tuesday but I will be doing it tomorrow. I watched your other videos about the VI and how to prepare for it and I’m much more confident after watching it!
I am sooo Grateful that I am in a career that I can juggle because I now, plan on going for FA. Being a FA was ALWAYS my dream career, but it was not the right time. Now, is the right time in my life. 👏✈️👏 I have a F2F interview at the end of this month with your airline. 🤞 If, I get hired as a FA that will come first than when I’m not flying, I will pick up Nursing shifts. You have a Great personality and are Great at vlogging. Hoping that one day that I can meet you and give you a BIG hug. I am a hugger 🤗.
Hi Steven, this is a great video. I like your flight attendant videos! Can you make a video about the minimum amount of hours a Flight Attendant has to have in order to keep there health benefits. Also maybe S3 (FA to FA, FA to Guest, seat duplications, coffee spills on guest, guest gets vomited on, babies being changed on the tray table, etc)...reimbursement, irregularity vs safety forms. Again great video.
Steven Pereira I guess that I should’ve said the many hats that Flight Attendants wear and one of those hats are being where there is a lot of (clerical work involved). Thanks in advance.
I can understand what your other subscriber is asking, as I as well would need to be able to continue working a good amt of hrs from home office, to support self. I think the bigger question would be which airline would allow you to be home more often - I have a feeling the reserve airline would work better.
I know this video is a bit old, but are 4.34 weeks per month on average (365/(12*7)), so a normal 9 to 5 (40 hrs per week) is 173.6 duty hours (you said 120).
Steve question on that example of you trip that en on FLL , when did you get pay per diem ? Oh is only on a lay over . Or is pay between Legs or block time ?
Great question! I'm going to add it to a Q&A I'm planning. But to answer your question, we are paid per diem from the time we pull away from the airport at the start of a trip until we pull back int base at the end of a trip. So, even though a three day trip may only be 14 hours of credit (that we are paid for) but we were away from base for 62 hours (as an example) we would be paid per diem for each of those 62 hours.
Hi Steven. Thanks for the informative video. I’m curious... you seem to have decent seniority after only two years. Why is that? Is there high attrition at your airline? I want to apply because 🖤💛 FAs seem to be happy, but that statistic makes me a little wary. Thanks! 😊
I was hired in the middle of a big hiring trend to fill positions necessary for us to take ownership of a large order of aircraft...and we keep on adding new routes. So, we've hired alot of people in the past two years. Giving me an Instant seniority boost. I would hazard a guess that new hires would probably have to wait a year and a half or more before getting a line. But compare that with legacies, even waiting that long for a line isn't that bad.
I would accept any base graduate and out in for a transfer to the base you want. My aiine used to make you wait six months to transfer, but now you can apply for a transfer day one...you'll get it if the base is open and if nobody seniod to you wants the transfer first.
I've heard some things about people in the airline industry not having to pay taxes. Is this true? Thanks for the video, I have a face to face interview tomorrow, and am considering my options.
Most of my per diem wasn't taxed, otherwise I pay the same taxes as everyone. (We used to be able to deduct more, but that's over). Good luck with your interview!
Most airlines start you out on what's called reserve...you don't have a schedule but the company uses you when they need you. You rarely know when, where or who you're flying with. You're paid for a minimum number of hours, even if you're not used. A line holder is senior enough in the company where they get an actual schedule so the usually know when and where they are flying.
So did you have to fight for that 86 hour month where you only worked 41 or did they take care of it for you? And I saw on FB where you said you made $33,000 last year. That gives me so much hope! I'm curious what your average block hours were to make that in a year. I just got a CJO Monday and I l know the first year is HARD. So some encouragement for year 2 would be amazing! Thank you!!♡
That month I got lucky with swapping a trip for float vacation time, I think. There might have been a canceled flight in there too, so I would have been pay protected. The second year is SOOO much easier and more comfortable. You're not going to make a ton of money, but it feels certainly more comfortable. I get my second annual pay raise very soon as well as a small union based pay bump in May. So, In two years I'll be making almost eight dollars more an hour than I started with...not bad! I still struggle as I live alone and bills pop up out of the blue, but I'll make it.

Thank you! This answered my biggest question.
Love listening to you and learn more about this industry 😂❤
Love how you have regular vlogs! I can watch while I’m making breakfast/lunch.

At my state job I work 180 hours per month. So your duty time varies a lot.

That's alot! I'll try to tuck some of that into a Q&A.

Hello Steven,i have a message for you on your instagram.,..thank you

Thanks. How difficult is it to get to a base you want? I’d want DFW.

What does he mean about reserve vs a line ? He didn’t explain it

How much do you make while on vacation
I get 28 hours credit (whatever my hourly pay is), I believe.
