We toured Milford Sound AND Doubtful Sound!

Milford Sound is New Zealand's most famous tourist attraction, and for good reason - the towering cliffs, dark ocean and spectacular waterfalls are something anyone visiting the country would want to see. I've been lucky to visit Milford twice, once in 2024 under normal tourist conditions, but also in 2021 when there was hardly anyone else there due to pandemic travel restrictions.
On this visit we checked out the Milford Underwater Observatory, where you can head ten meters below the surface of the water to see fish and rare black corals.
Somewhat less well known than Milford is the Doubtful Sound, where we did an overnight cruise. Doubtful is bigger than Milford, and while the cliffs are less sheer, the isolation, wildlife and beauty of the place match or exceed Milford.
