Believe it or not you are the BEST ukulele teacher I've ever know
I REALLY enjoy my Lava U. It's great for busking and open mic events and I love the overall sonic & tonal characteristics. The built-in effects are great when you don't have your pedals handy or you just want to plug it directly into a small amp. As an ancillary benefit, you don't need to worry about weather / humidity conditions. For me: the "play-ability" factor is GREAT ... fun to play, easy to play, barre chords are easier and I can make unusual transitions (such as D to E chord) without having to slow the song down.
Shortly after receiving my Lava U, I changed out the strings to fluorcarbons and Low G ... and it sounds even better, it is (in my view) GREAT!
Please understand I'm still new to playing my Uke, I started back on the 9th June 20. So please excuse me if my comment to some people may seem obvious.... not to me it's not. What I noticed about you Katie is that when you started playing with this Uke you weren't hearing it you were listening intently to break down the sound. I can't do that because my Uke is my first one and to try and listen as intently as you were, well quite frankly I wouldn't know what to listen for. I also realise that it's only a matter of time to learn and hear that ability.

I love my LAVA U. I teach whole class Ukulele but during lockdown, I wanted to get more familiar with the instrument, so my partner bought me the LAVA U in red as a birthday gift. I absolutely love it - I have the tenor and it's beautiful in every way. I recently ordered the strap too from the UK website - although I know that other websites are selling the strap in an expensive bundle which is a shame. It is an overall expensive ukulele, but it's sound, the quality of the instrument and the simplicity of its look justifies it for me. I have a lot of fun playing it! Your videos have been helping me improve my playing during lockdown also :) x

Very good sound that doesn't hit you over the head. I didn't notice any difference with the effects you turned on. Perhaps does not come through on an iPhone speaker. Love your tutorials and demos. I am one of your blind listeners and your tutorials are very easy to follow. Your descriptions are crystal clear
Thank you for the review 💃🏼I bought a red one earlier this year and found it impossible to hold as it would slip. At the time the strap wasn’t available so my husband replaced the output jack to an output jack including a button. A cheap fix. Aus$20. Make sure the output jack has an “external nut”.
It took me a while to get into it, but now I love it. I really enjoy the sound it produces when fingerpicking especially.
Thank you for this video. I saw this on Amazon and thought it was cool, although I will never buy it, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your joy and enthusiasm while playing it.
I've had the Lava U since April. I really enjoy playing it however my biggest complaint is that because it has a rounded back, it slides down on my lap when I'm seated. Of course a strap would help with this. However for some ridiculous reason, they are using a proprietary design and are charging a whopping $150 for their strap ... on top of the $399 cost of the instrument. As a result, anyone considering this carbon uke would do well to at least consider the Enya Nova U at 1/4 the price - and it even comes with a free strap. Great video review, though.

@@OneMusicSchool I have the purple concert Lava U (with FX) and a black Nova U (no FX) with a wound low G. I play both daily and can't comprehend how one is $89 and the other is $399. IMO Enya has the significantly better uke for the price.

One other thing, you should only use nylon strings on the Lava U. This info was in a reply by the manufacturer in the Amazon Q&A section, and not on their website or product documentation FWIW.

I love it and I'd love to add it to my uke collection but it's a bit out of my price range!!!!! It is gorgeous and sounds amazing 👏 😍 💕

Great video! My favorite part was seeing your reaction to it - that's a vote in favor of unboxings. :) I love the look of the case, but I don't actually love the look of the instrument. But I could probably get past that if I had one in my hands. :D I would love to play with the effects. Thanks for a fun video!
Cool Katie, this Lava ukulele is like the future past ... Now. Ok, will the case hold other uke's? Be nice for other uke's dustproof display. That wonky support though? Yeah, is the view window Lexan, for solid protection? Fun seeing a uke all one color and I like the idea of the body shape , are there less uke-arm grooves? Has a bright almost Sharpe tone, ahhh yes sparkle. Effects cooool! The first setting sounded fun, love the idea of exploring how notes can sound. To the price point from someone never seeing a review of this Lava Uke and case I'm thinking a lot of money goes towards the lovely looking artistic case. Is it waterproof and rugged like a Pelican Box? Interesting to hear your thoughts, in time, how a Lava Ukulele performs and holds up to everyday use. I hope people have them so we can hear your collective thoughts in your future Pt.2 review. It's nice to see a uke review appear every once in a while. But I don’ think I could get over the space age look of it. LOL. The case looks like something out of an early Bond film ( Moonraker for example ) and the ukulele itself looks too strange. I think I’d rather play the Enya E6. Which has similar electronics in a more traditional looking package. :)

Hi Katie, I'm a beginner on the acoustic guitar and going great thanks to the amazing CZcams teachers like you. I'm really keen on the Lava Me 2 would you recommend it? Or should I be looking at other acoustic guitar brands at that price point?
I got this and absolutely hated it. I've recently changed the strings to Aquila Reds...and it's night and day! Now I play it even more than my Enya MAD, (which I love love love).

@@OneMusicSchool thanks for the reply. I was very frustrated with this instrument and couldn't tell exactly why I didn't like it. Then I finally realized that the open tuned strings got further and further out of tune all the way down the fret board, (even starting at the first fret). Now it's perfect and really sounds fantastic.
I hope it helps someone else maybe searching for answers too.

Good question. This is tuned differently than a guitar and is tuned like a standard ukulele. This company does make guitars 😀.
@@OneMusicSchool They do make guitars. In fact, that's the heart of their business. The Lava ME, Lava ME2 and LavaME Pro. The Lava U came later, and is a miniscule part of the business. That is how I first discovered the Lava U, as an owner of the LavaME Guitar.

Is it a concert or tenor? i have concert, same color, it has a tinge of whimsical kalimba sound. I find the space case difficult to carry around, I’ve wanted to take it to the beach but I’m afraid it might catch sand inside 😉

I have this ukulele. I did not like the strings at ALL and changed them out. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I like it a lot. The case scratches very easily and you can't store much in it. Plus, I don't think it stays in tune as well as my Outdoor uke.

I've been super disappointed with it. I'm guessing it's the strings too. I have a kaka-MAD, and it's incredible. I don't know enough about strings though to figure out how to get the same kind of strings on the Lava.

The ukulele sounds nice but seems overpriced to me. There are nicer sounding ukuleles at that price even including the electronics.
The Enya Nova I think sounds a little less rich but i far cheaper.
Flight have their Soundwave ukuleles that I think actually sound better and are about the same price or even slightly cheaper.
Enya have also just released some all solid wood ukuleles with the same electronic gizmos that sound amazing at a higher price point.
