    Thank you for this video, I found your channel while doing my initial studies on buying a drone and building a aerial photography business. I have watched your videos several times and will watch them several more times in the future. Your Part 107 study guide was very well done and has been the most beneficial thing so far. This video gave me some great ideas for future projects. I chose the P3S for several reasons.
    1. Obviously cost (I got a mortgage and 5 kids so a expensive drone will have to come later)
    2. No frills - the drone forces me to fly it and learn to control it without any special assists like object avoidance etc.
    3. It has the basics I need to build a business - the drone can earn the money to invest in something better later.
    4. Tons of aftermarket support and bugs already worked out of it.

    Hi Tony, I would like to thank you and Chelsea for your videos and live streams. There is lots of useful information, tips and good times. I have a question for you about the commercial drone license. I feel that the commercial license is a violation of my rights to sell my art, whether it´s video or photography. Typically, any other videographer or photographer does not need a license. This commercial drone license just seems absurd and unfair because a hobbyist drone pilot can fly in the exact same airspace. I wonder what right the government has to say that I cannot sell the footage unless I have this license. The commercial license can cost $1000+ in Europe. But regardless of cost, I believe this is a creative rights and individual freedom issue. Perhaps it´s another form of illegal taxation? What are you thoughts on this? Anyways, all the best. :)

  • @Sawta
    @Sawta Před 4 lety

    Something that popped into mind while watching this is that for large scale events, watching out for other drones is going to become a bigger concern in the coming years. It's not an issue when drones are extremely rare, but as more people buy into the market, airspace could become more limited, and dangerous, when trying to cover large events.
    I wonder if we will be required to maintain flight paths, or something else? I mean...for hobbyists, how are they even going to know what the FAA guidelines will be in relation to professionals if they aren't required to know the material? (Not trying to sound snobby. Not sure of a better way for phrase it.)
    Maybe it would make sense to move licensed PIC's into slightly higher airspace (5-8, maybe?) and keep hobbyists closer to the ground (1-3)? Kind of an A and B airspace for UAS. I would think pros would have telephoto lenses good enough to compensate for wider shots, but it's concerning to think of the crashes that might occur before things start to normalize.

    I wonder whether sticking a piece of card vertically on top of the drone and writing on it in the largest possible font "March for Science" then they'd be less likely to be suspicious and conclude that it's for the march rather than against.

    • @A320Pilots
      @A320Pilots Před 7 lety

      Alien OrSutin 3 things: 1. Putting a card vertically on top of a drone would catch the wind and significantly increase the drag and reduce your flight time. 2. How would the propellers be able to turn with something on top of the drone? 3. If somehow the card you put on top would get caught in the wind and touched one of the props, the drone could spin out of control and potentially fly right into the crowd.

    • @veemacks7255
      @veemacks7255 Před 7 lety

      I was just thinking something like 2-3 inches high and 6-10 inches wide. It'd be on the top of the drone so it would be above the propellers. As for catching the wind, yep, you got me there. Lucky I don't have a drone, by now I might not have one anymore ;-)

    I would also consider this when flying near a group of people (which by the way in Canada isn't an option):
    - med kit near by (not only for you and your team, but for that time the drone flew against someone)
    -fire extinguisher near by (a drone crash alone sucks, the battery igniting on fire is really bad!)
    - a sandwich board and T-shirts for all persons involved in the operation (company name on them and a clear sentence highlighting you are a drone operator at work). This way you avoid crowd suspicion, makes people feel better because you look professional (even if it's your 2nd time on a job)
    - your license in reach to show officials you are certified.
    With all that you mentioned, PLUS the above, you can at least show any authority that you know what you're doing!
