WHITE GLOVES VIDEO! The Chloé fashion house has opened the doors of its archives, from which the costumes in Disney +'s Becoming Karl Lagerfeld series were inspired! How do you recreate film costumes from archives? A three-way dialogue between Pascaline Chavanne, multi-César-winning costume designer, Jeanne Damas, who plays Paloma Picasso, and Géraldine Sommier, head of the Chloé archives! Each of them explains their work, their moodboards and the secrets of the Disney + series.
Becoming Karl Lagerfeld comes out on 7 June 2024 on Disney +! The series looks back at the Chloé years of the famous designer. Karl Lagerfeld, Paloma Picasso, Jacques de Bascher, Yves Saint Laurent, Gaby Aghion, and the Palace! Enough to inspire all your moodboards.

I was 'chef d'atelier' with Karl in the late 80's and was asked to get rid off the stock of fabrics and other stuff when the label moved to the Faubourg. They had a closed store full of old collections and accessories that they sold of for very little money. The attics were full of beautiful silks designed by Karl that I gave to the personel and what was left went to some random person. On the last few weeks whole cupboards of sketches and gorgeous lace trims were binned along with the furniture. I saved some René Herbst chairs and Knoll tables from the skip, it was horrible to see such waste. The tailors dummies used to dress some famous people were trashed. I even came across many archival pieces in some random little store in some coastal town when our car ran out of fuel, stolen and sold on. One of the people in charge was a know thief who used and abused the company and then went on the do the same for a VERY famous label. When I tried to give some sketches back to Karl he didnt want them, said chuck them or keep them as he hated the past. I loved working with Karl, he had an amazing sense of humour and the studio was always full of the most incredible people just hanging out. It was sometimes hard to do the fittings as I had to navigate between models and celebrities and friends but Karl could focus despite all these distractions.

Quelle gageure d’avoir voulu faire un biopic sur Karl Lagerfeld, alors qu’on a encore tellement son visage, son personnage et sa voix dans la tête. Franchement pas grand chose à voir avec l’original ce qui ne m’étonne pas, il était inimitable.
