Flew the F-18 in VR today, discovored the HMD by luck, you could say I went to 12 year old girl mode in seconds.

The mig-29 was one of the first to have a helmet targeting system that was on a jet that was widely distributed. And at red flag and top gun they trained for it specifically.
Wow so aim-9x also benefits from the jet's radar as well. Awesome! I've noticed too that it usually isn't distracted by flares. Scary weapon!

Great video - as usual! Trivial point though, Instant Action missions are not Training Missions. There is no TM for the 9X yet, just the IA you were using. (Although the Hornet IAs have mostly moved to Missions now.)

im in instant action and there isnt any training I can see called anything like helmet mounted display or sidewinders. what am I missing/
go to missions > f/a-18 and then scroll down until you find weapons qualification aim-9x

how to get helmet mounted display work? It doesnt work anymore by just setting the HMD brighter.

its not in instant action, its just one of the normal ones you can find in 'missions'

I know. It’s an outstanding airplane. I just have never been a fan. I’ve always been a fighting falcon fan. Iron eagle and the falcon sims were my favorites.
I will learn to fly it and use it, just not my favorite. And there isn’t any full fidelity alternates yet. Once the F-16C is done, I’ll probably never fly anything else

im new to dcs and i havent figured out what the ambulance siren means can anyone tell me?I think it means I'm being spiked but im not sure.

We use the Open Beta DCS so we get it before most players.
When I turn it on nothing displays for me.

DCS might as well change its name into USAF. There aren't any modern Russian multirole high fidelity jets. We're getting f14, which is great really, but on the Russian part we're getting mig 19 :/ BTW, does anybody know anything about F15e? Is there gonna be a module for that and when? Tnx!
I too would love to see fully modeled modern Russian fighters. I do find the US jets a bit too clean, conventional and 'middle of the road'. I want a death trap with HMD damn it!
Russia doesn't have multirole in the sense of the NATO multirole planes. The USN's F/A-18c was made to be capable of all missions since it saves on parts and space on carriers. The Russians keep equipment specialized to do one specific task, and then they occasionally let it do other roles. The Soviet Su-27 and MiG-29 are not too dissimilar to their modern Russian equals and do have the same light multirole abilities. The MiG-21 can also perform multirole in the same sense of the flanker and fulcrum. All forms of MiG-21 and MiG-29 are used everywhere NATO isn't present. Thus, they are still fairly modern.
On the note of the MiG-19, Pakistan used their Chinese variants until 2002. Albania used theirs until 2005. China only just decommissioned all of theirs in 2010, with front-line service ending in '92. North Korea and Zambia still have them in services as of 2014.
