- CAMARO ZL1 1LE vs CAMARO ZL1 Which one is right for you? Street, Track, Drag Racing
In this video we’ll compare the CAMARO ZL1 1LE to the CAMARO ZL1. Is the $7500 option a must have for your CAMARO?
We’ll go over the differences and then our opinion if the ultimate track CAMARO is right for you.
I’ve owned both and will give you my opinion after driving and racing both the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE.
First, we’ll go over the suspension, then the exterior/aero, then the wheels & tires.
We will also discuss options not available on the 1LE.
Then, we’ll go over drag racing performance.
Next, we’ll go over the street manners.
Did someone say “race track”? Performance on the race track, high performance driving event, or track day at a proper road course. Finally, I’ll give my conclusions.

I'm only considering getting this vehicle for a few reasons
1. Pick up chicks
2. Run to the grocery store
3. Go to School
4. Maybe drive to Vegas
5. Need something that's fast and effective🎉
@@BennyGrimm As long as it is one chick at a time, then you are probably ok. I've done a Costco run in the car and it's no problem. School isn't an issue, just park in the back of the lot. Vegas is fun, just don't use valet parking. Definitely fast and effective. 🤣🤣
Just buy and install the aero
I personally prefer the standard ZL1, but of course on a track day you can’t go wrong with the 1LE.
Yeah you missed the aluminum rear cradle bushings, the thinner glass rear window and it does come with a rear view mirror camera in the antenna which enables the driver to see without obstruction from the spoiler.
Good catch, I missed the rear cradle bushings in one of the edits and they are a noticeable benefit when you are driving at the limit. You can control oversteer with the throttle. The ZL1 snaps. 2021+ got the rear mirror camera, but 2019 to 2020 lost it.
LAst track day at VIR, I befriended a ZL1 1LE owner and got him to take me around the track for one session. Such a fantastic car!
VIR is a great track for the ZL1 1LE!
Man that front end looks so vicious. They look good on screen, but when you see these boys in real life, it hits different!
Good different or bad different?
@@RacingforALS Definitely in a good way. You can appreciate the angles and lines a lot more. It just looks like it means business, and it does!
I bought a M6 Zl1 in Feb, and I haven't been disappointed. No plans on tracking it, and I'm willing to bet 80% of people who own these cars never push it close to its limits. No need for the 1LE package, I'll just go ahead and enjoy that mag ride and the 'push of a button' adjustability.
I still cant decide. I want the daily drivability of the regular ZL1 but the 1LE just looks too tough
Pick your poison. 😎 Drive them both if you can. The 1LE cars are getting harder to come by on the used market and the dealer lots.
The solution has been provided on many youtube videos. Buy the 1LE. Then you'll need an entire 2ns set of tires and rims. You'll have daily driver rims and tires......and of course the "race day" set which would be ideally carbon fiber rims and sport cup 3s (etc). There are ways to reduce, and increase, that price's combination (like just buying full-blown race tires), but you get the drift.
@@andrewdow1609 Thanks for the comment. I think the right answer, as I pointed out in my video, depends on the purpose of use. If you don't regularly go to the race track (road course), then you get 9/10th's of the performance with none of the compromises with the ZL1. I track a bunch, so I went with the ZL1 1LE after having a normal ZL1 for four years. I wouldn't go with carbon fiber rims, there are better options out there like APEX Race Parts.
I own one zl11le 69years old if i can take it you can to
Get a regular zl1 and buy the after market aero
Love my 2021 ZL1 1LE glad I went with the extreme track pack
I've driven both a 2019 2SS 1LE and a 2023 ZL1 1LE. The difference is wild. When I first drove the 2SS 1LE I was blown away at the cornering. It was a blast to drive. Then, the ZL1 1LE took that to another level. Wow! It was definitely intimidating at first. Both of these cars belong to my son. He traded the 2019 when he took delivery of the ZL1 1LE in December. If it was for me, I'd probably want the 2SS 1LE. I really liked that car. It was Crush Orange and loads of fun! The ZL1 1LE is just a beast.
Thanks for the great comment and info.
How much of a difference on normal roads? Not much I imagine there speed racer.
@@JoseSanchez-zo5tb I haven't driven it yet with the new tires. But, as a passenger you can feel a difference. It's not as "grabby" and it's a bit less harsh on bumps.

The new 1LEs comes with the mirror camera. Nice video 👍🏾
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciated.
I came here to say that, my 2023 has the camera, but I only use it occasionally, I'm 6'2" and I don't mind it in my mirror, I think u get used to it. 👍
@@andrewjohnson7695 Thanks for the comment. We posted a correction/clarification video here. czcams.com/video/bsL9hRSlq7Y/video.html
Ive got it in mine but never use it. Creates a weird depth perception in the monitor/mirror I just can't get used to.
@Mark Vandendyke I agree, it should be more adjustable to suit each drivers preference, it's a good idea, just not quite perfect
Great video, Scott! 🏁🏁
Thanks buddy
"engineered package" was a key word for me to understand the difference, thank you!
Thanks. There is a ton of work in developing a suspension design and the 1LE left minimal compromise for street driving.
If I’m being honest, for me it’s the aesthetics. I want the wing, wheels, and red calipers. It’s like knowing the wide body Hellcat exists with 6 pot calipers, and “settling” for a slim body. I’ll never track any of them…I know dumb
I was cautious in the video not to say which is best. It depends on what is essential to the driver. It's okay to want to drive the "halo" trim of a car just because you want to or like the looks. Thanks for commenting!
Very informative. Ty
Thanks
Super job, Bro! Well done contrasting the two packages.
Thank you for the kind feedback! Glad you liked it.
My dream car ZLE baby!!
Excellent in depth review for a public that seemingly could care less about GMs detailed announcement about the differences with Al Oppenheiser telling everyone until he was blue in the face, that the 1LE package was a HARDCORE track focused vehicle made by people that were as serious as a heart attack about RACING. It became a farce when people started complaining about the harsh ride of the 1LE package, including motortrend. The real tragedy of the Camaro is people didnt understand the chassis was the gem of the car and outshone Mustang. In the 1LE package, you essentially GOT A MODERN TRANS AM RACE CAR. The gains of horsepower through just flow techniques that are dirt cheap is absurd as well. Awesome cars.
Thanks for the serious and informed comment. We're in a unique position to describe both cars after years of tracking and driving on the street. Al knew what he built and what they could do. He was a "Carroll Shelby" working inside a modern corporation. I'm sure they'll write about him.
We also drive the cars at the race track czcams.com/video/NwQLCl7Bws4/video.html
Al is the man that made the 6th Gen Camaro great!
I have a 2019 ZLE and I would rather have the 6-speed manual, I traded my 2017 Camaro SS for the ZLE, and going from an auto to manual is a thrill in itself, you also have to remember that not everyone has the ZLE.
I've driven both the A10 & M6 normal ZL1 and A10 & M6 ZL1 1LE on the track. You can't go wrong with either, but for a street car I would pick the M6 over the A10. It's just more engaging to drive. For the track the A10 is slightly faster, but lacks the engine braking of the manual. On the drag strip the A10 destroys the M6 by nearly 1/2 a second. The no lift shift and auto rev matching is great on the M6! Thanks for dropping a comment! 🏁🏁🏁
Best driving manual
Great video!!
Thank you Mr. Adams!
Thanks for the informative clip. Making my choice. I will be getting a ZL1… a daily with style and power.
Perfect, you can't go wrong with it.
Nice vid you have a droptop to review lol I had a reg zl1 since I don't track it an now went to a 23 convertible and wow it's frigging awesome with top down so sad that camaros are going bye bye started with a 2016 2ss than a 2020 zl1 and my final one is a 2023 zl1 convertible..I been in so many cars vets mustangs sls amg I just always had a bigger grin with a camaro never even thought I would of even liked a drop top 🤣🤣
I've driven a 2018 ZL1 convertible M6 up the PCH in California up the coast and then took it around Laguna Seca for a few track sessions. That was before I was seriously doing CZcams videos, but that would have been an epic one!
This has been very helpful because after looking for one LE I realize I probably can’t afford it, they are too hard to find which drives up the price. Ty!
Glad it helped. There were less than 5000 ZL1 Camaros produced with the A1Z (1LE) option from 2017 to 2024. The ZL1 without the A1Z package has 90% of the performance without any of the compromises.
Very nice. A good video.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
This Is a very well done video, the ride in the zle is not as bad as most make it out to be as long as you use good road tires.
Personally, I like it except on bad roads. We tested on a bad road on purpose. Thanks for posting!
The older gentleman I'm sure felt every bump
My fourth gen with strano springs and konis rode harsher than my ZLE. I think most people that have experience with even somewhat modified suspension cars will be fine with the ZLE.

One of my fave’s
Awesome video, I been just interested in the 2019 z06, and the 2021s zl1 and 1le. With the c8 z06 coming out the C7’s version has become cheaper but still stylish, a removable roof, and comfortable daily sports car to drive vs the Camaro is great muscle car with updated technology features in it (like the mirror camera bc the visibility is awful haha) and more storage room with the back seats. I love how the 1le looks with the spoiler and extra aero dynamic parts in the front but I agree if you’re not using it for the track better off just getting regular zl1!
The C7 Z06 is also a great car and is slightly faster than the ZL1 1LE on a road course with R compound tires. It’s the same engine and 500 lbs lighter.
@@RacingforALS for a third fun car(sometimes during the week as a daily driver and on the weekend) would you get the c7 z06 or ZL1?
@@jacobyhall8335 I’m in the same boat. Looking at ZL1’s as my 3rd car (E90 330i daily and CT4-V Blackwing 6-speed as the luxury flex car). I was looking at C7 Z06 7-speeds and their prices went through the roof. Plus the ZL1 I feel was better engineered with regards to heat management and has more clearance.

Great video! What about the aluminum rear cradle bushings?
Good catch! I lost that point during one of the video edits, but yes the 1LE package replaces the rubber IRS cradle bushings with billet aluminum bushings. They reduce wheel hop and make the car much more predictable in oversteer.
Hell yes i have a 2021 1le iam 69 years old fastest car i every had not the fast car i every drove tires stock tires are Michelin 4sp are better
Thanks Norman!
My 22 ZLE had the camera on the roof antenna for the rearview mirror. Might want to get your info correct. It’s there to see over the wing. I see a lot of “normal” zl1 wanting the looks of the 1LE package and spend so much more than the actual package. ZLE looks way better in my mind.
@sick_ZLE we issued a correction/clarification video here czcams.com/video/bsL9hRSlq7Y/video.html . The 2019 & 2020 ZL1 1LE and SS 1LE cars lost the camera mirror when the 1LE package was added per official GM response. They did not give a reason why. The camera mirror became standard 2021+, so that's why you have it on your 22.
nah, a 1LE is a ricer's wet dream, a regular ZL1 is a mature man's image
Great video with lots of good information. I spent 4 years looking at the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. You covered all the differences I know of. I bought my 2022 6 speed ZL1 1LE in May and it has lived up to its hype (its NOT hype). I have tracked 4 days at ThunderHIll in September and have a permanent grin on my face. The strengths of the car make up for my mediocre driving skills. I can't wait to get more track time to improve my skills and get more out of the car. . By the way, to improve a great car I added the California legal, Callaway SC750 package.

The parts are factory GM parts. They are interchangeable with ZL1 front fascia after three slots are added on each side. The slots are marked on the inside of bumper cover, so they are easy to add with a Dremel tool.
Hell.yes next collector car keep it 6sp is cool
Absolutely!😁
After hitting a pothole at 75mph holler back at me on this comparison 🤣
We actually had several minutes of driving comparisons but chose to keep it brief. 75 mph pot holes aren’t fun in either car, but the ZL1 1LE might induce spinal discomfort. 😜
Valid point 😊
Great video,,,and yes, you do need the 1LE.
So do I!!!!
I just notice my driver's front sturt leaking. ??? Any shops repairing them??? Multimatic
DSSV or a good up grade ?!?!
Or just call Chevy dealer tmro?

In the base zl1 it has a 285 front tire and a 305 rear which that is equal to 11 inch front 12 wide rear. The zl1 1le has a 305 front and 325 rear which is 12 wide front 13 wide wheel and tire in the rear
The ZL1 comes equipped with 285-30-20 front and 305-30-20 rear Supercar 3 tires. The wheels are 20x10 front, 20x11 rear. The ZL1 1LE comes equipped with 305-30-19 and 325-30-19 Supercar 3R tires. The wheels are 19x11 front, 19x12 rear. I wasn’t clear that I was talking about wheel size in the video.
No one needs anything, but if you can afford it and want to treat yourself to a fun car then go for it
Absolutely, we're blessed that we can do what we do. Appreciate the comment.
I went with the ZL1 cuz even when i do get out onto Road America, I'm not trying to set lap times. I just enjoy the day.
I do get to the drag strip more often and there, I'm getting after it as hard as i can.

YES...I need a ZL1 1LE
Do I NEED a Camaro ZL1?
yes I absolutely do
My 21 ZLE came from the factory with the rear view mirror camera. Not sure who told you that you loose that option with the 1LE package
It removed the rear camera option in 2019-2020 and came back in 2021. The ZL1 1LE in the video is a 2019 and the ZL1 is a 2020, but I could have been clearer that the option is available 2021+.
My zl1 1le has the rear view mirror camera and the wing Isn’t even showing. The ride isn’t that bad to most people a lot of people daily it I still drag it and the 10 speed zle even with the wing lol is a better looking car 😂but a nice video
I have had both. The 1le has a noticeable suspension upgrade
I was blessed to own, drive, and race both a 2018 ZL1 and 2019 ZL1 1LE. With modifications the ZL1 can approach the ZL1 1LE on the track, but stock vs. stock it's no contest mainly due to tires. Video here: czcams.com/video/NwQLCl7Bws4/video.html
As a former 19 1SS 1LE owner I respect neither car, but I'd take a regular ZL1 over a ZLE every day. Here's why. A ZL1 is a blower car. This means you are willing to sacrifice some handling and chassis balance to gain a much more powerful engine, that will handle big HP and mod easily and fairly cheaply. And yes a blower engine cars nose heavy nature is very noticeable to a car built on the same platform with 120+ lbs less up front. The issue here is if you're going to make that compromise then GM failed to deliver a truly competitive engine. A LT4 is so overbudgeted that it's ridiculous. It's a slightly beefed up LT1 with so more efficient DI components and the cheapest/least efficient blower that GM could use to hit 650 BHP for the C7 Z06. A LT5 is what a LT4 should have been, and a LT5 is light years better than a LT4. A LS9 is a better powerhouse engine than a LT4. Trinity is better than LT4. Predator is better than LT4. Hellcat is better than LT4. Hell a factory sealed GEN2+ (Especially GEN3 and GEN4) Coyote is likely capable of handling more HP than a LT4. LT4 was just a weak effort for a factory SC'ed V8, and it's DI system sucks compared to every other engine's fuel system that I mentioned including LT5. I put LT4 more on a LSA's level. N/A a LT1's HP potential isn't that far off a LS7's. It's an impressive little N/A engine if you have the $ to H/C/I it and delete the AFM (Another stupid feature I can't believe GM forced on the LT4 engine, but deleted from LT5) and upgrade the fuel system.
As far as why I'd take a regular ZL1 over a ZLE. A ZL1 is kind of an elegant looking car as far as GEN6 Camaros go. It looks highend. Not as good looking as a 17/18 SLE, but a good looking car nonetheless. The ZLE on the other hand is ugly. It's just like a Viper ACR, it sacrifices looks to gain downforce. They look riced out, but they actually have usable downforce. Buying a ZLE or ACR over the regular models for anything other than road course work is full retard as that's the only thing they do better. "Wrong! A ZLE can corner on the street better than a ZL1!" Whatever a ZL1 handles great. How I know this is a SLE is just a ZL1 with a different look, a SS engine/transmission, and 14.7" front rotors instead of 15.1" front rotors, and a SLE is a great handling car. From my understanding a ZLE makes a 00 Cobra R feel like a streetable car. Let me really piss y'all off. Multimatic in a ZLE is full F'in retard. Is a ZLE capable of turning very impressive laptimes? Yes. Does it need Multimatic to do so? No, MRC could likely match or better it. (especially on a track not smooth as glass) How do I know this or at least have the nuts to claim it. How about C6 ZR1, C6 Z06 Centennial, C7 Z06, C7 GS, C7 ZR1, GT350R, 20-23 GT500, new Mustang Dark Horse, C8 Z06, etc all rely on MRC to turn very fast lap times. I don't care that your Colorado or Silverado ZR2's Multimatic suspension isn't harsh. A ZLE isn't a O/R truck, it is a performance car made to turn fast laps while also being streetable. Everybody hates a ZLE's ride quality on the street. On the other hand a GEN6 Camaro with MRC offers an amazingly comfortable ride, while also giving you very high levels of performance. Unless you ride 95% on a smooth track, and 5% or less on the street, then no, a ZLE isn't worth it over a ZL1. It's a shame. I feel that if the Camaro team (who overall did a great job BTW, even dating back to the GEN5 cars) had put in the effort and tuned a MRC setup for the ZLE that they could have matched the Multimatics performance without the harsh ride penalty.
Thanks for the in depth comment. I agree with a majority of your points and in the video my main takeaway is that you can get 90% of the road course performance out of a ZL1 without having the compromises of the ZL1 1LE. I disagree with your comment on the DSSV shocks. They are an advantage over the MRC when incorporated into the over all suspension and downforce package of the ZL1 1LE. I did competitive Time Trials with a ZL1 with MRC and a DSC Sport Controller that allowed me to tune the shocks. The car had more corner exit grip, but less lateral grip. The 1LE is more balanced, especially at the limit. The ZL1 sometimes "snapped" at the limit. Again, thanks for the detailed and knowledgeable comment. Based take
I have 2022 zl1 1le and it does have the rear view camera and the wing does not block it.
Great video! If I wanted to run ZLE wheels on my standard ZL1, are there any issues? Is there a chance for fender rubbing? Is there anything I would need to do to make the switch? Is the width of the front/rear fenders any different between the two? Thanks!!
You can run 19"x11" front wheels without issues as long as you don't exceed -2.0 camber in the front. 19"x12" are direct fit in the rear. The ZL1 bodies are identical, but the suspension is different.
That wild cherry tincoat camaro zl1 1le is sick

Haha I couldn't decide either so I got "both".
Got a regular ZL1 and added only what I liked from the 1LE which is the rims, rear bushing setup (and lockout kit), front aero, and a version of the CF rear spoiler with a camera cutout.
Although the Multimatic is great, it really feels "race only" so I got an upgraded controller (DSC Sport) to compensate and am debating BMR springs and sways for that extra tightness and drop. Still need to paint the calipers red and I am done!
Both versions of this car are amazing though.
Awesome. I advise against the BMR front sway bar. I had issues with the bushings failing every track day.
@RacingforALS that is really interesting feedback, thank you!
I heard someone got the BMR springs and the car balance felt off, until they got both BMR sway bars.
I may have to reconsider...the less than half inch drop may not be worth it.
@@Recon13x BMR had good customer service and took care of me, but I don't think they fully engineer and test their products for on track use. I'm a big fan of SPL, but you pay for what you get.
@@Recon13x If you don't recalibrate the ride height on the mag ride, then lowering the car messes up the shock tuning. A dealer can do it or you can do it yourself with a DSC Sport Controller. The factory shock tune is primarily based on position.
@RacingforALS I'll check SPL out, and yeah luckily the DSC Sport lets me manage any suspension tuning. I'm no pro but can at least calibrate the ride height and maybe a few parameters if necessary.
But also that time on the nurburgring was done in a manual... the 10 speed quickest is closer to the standard zl1
Correct on that the Nurburgring lap was with the M6, but the A10 ZL1 1LE was faster than the M6 ZL1 1LE on the GM proving track. The A10 ZL1 1LE will blow away the M6 ZL1 in factory delivered condition on the race track.
@@RacingforALS iirc Car and Driver ran the A10 at VIR and it was close to a second faster than their laps in an M6. That said, I'll trade that second for the ability to row through the gears any day.
People always say the 1LE is a tough ride. Can you give a comparison? Like to a modded lowered car on coilovers? Or worse? Is it rough or do you jus feel everything a bit
This chapter in the video answers your question 07:44 Street Driving
I’d buy a 1LE and it would never see a track simply for looks. I prefer the wheels and aero package over the standard ZL1
Thanks for the comment. The video didn't directly address aesthetics or pride of owning the top tier trim level, which are legitimate reasons for purchasing any vehicle. We attempt to focus on the factual differences between the two ZL1 packages in this video.
@@RacingforALS Definitely. I understood the intent of the video and it was well put together. I was merely stating my feelings towards both cars and how I viewed them. Both are more than capable machines.
@@bigmixx Definitely agree 100%. I'm in the small camp of enjoying both on the street and the track.
I have a 2017 zl1. I swapped out the throttle bottle and tp sensor. Sometimes the auto revs. Any idea?
Normally a throttle or TPS issue will throw a code. If there isn't a code, then I would check for vacuum leaks after the MAF. If that doesn't work, then I would remove the throttle body and check it for any sticking or rough motion.
Because the 1LE package rocks😊
Just watched this video, and I have to say that I’ve now had three 6th gen ZL1s…. This is the first and only time I’ll say it, but this the ONLY video I’ll say I’ll take the 1LE over the standard version. That standard one has been ruined with that big ole wang, and the body parts trying to make it look like a 1LE.
The aero is functional and not for aesthetics. The APR wing is less than the cost of a factory ZL1 1LE wing and produces more downforce. It’s more cost effective to just buy the ZL1 1LE over converting a ZL1.
I now have a ZL1 and it's great. But the magride seems soft to me even on the track setting. Some guys do buy the DSSV setup and others have done a KW V3 setup to replace it. Thoughts? Also, thoughts on rear subframe bushing lockout for the non-LE knowing that the ZLE aluminum parts are avail from GM? Next, the ZL1 6th gear is weird to me but it should save gas on highway cruising.
A DSC Sport Controller allows you to tune the magnetic shocks to your preference and has additional inputs for more active control. The DSSV shocks and spring rates of the ZL1 1LE are barely tolerable on rough roads but fantastic on the track. The bushing lockout isn't bad, but replacing the subframe bushings with the OEM aluminum is a major job.
@@RacingforALS Yeah thx! I may try the DSC unit but the programming I hear can be convoluted. I may also pair that with Swift OE style springs. Apparently the ZLE front rates are 450 lb/in and I've driven higher than that before but not in a Camaro. Yes because the OE rear bushings are such a big job, the BMR lockout kit looks like a good option.
The Cherry Tint Coat ZL1 with dive planes and after market front and rear spoilers is sooooooo much better looking than the 1LE !
It’s certainly an option and the APR aero provides more down force than the 1LE with more drag. I’d love to do a back to back set of track laps on these two cars on Goodyear 3R’s. Follow up video? 😎
@@RacingforALS I'd love to see the Cherry car in action, it might be the best looking ZL1 I've ever seen !
From my understanding, the 1LE is just a hair faster in the 1/4 mile due to being about 60 pounds lighter than the ZL1, and also having less rotating inertia in the shorter lighter wheels. The wider and tackier 325 rears also allow for better traction at the starting line over the ZL1's 305's. Anything over 130 mph or so and the standard ZL1 starts to pull away from the 1LE due to the aero advantage. Have you found this to be the case in drag and straight line racing?
@@jbrewster6175 We'll get video this weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park. Thanks for the video suggestion, look for it in a couple weeks.
Most should already know the 1LE is not comfortable as a daily driver, they should tell you this at the Dealerships. I would actually have to go with the ZL1 as it's pretty comfortable & still a beast when need be. 😎
Travis, thanks for dropping a comment. You hit the nail on the head and the purpose of this video. You get 90% of the performance with none of the compromises of the 1LE package with the normal ZL1. If the car sees more time on the racetrack than the street, the 1LE package is a considerable performance bargain. I wanted to avoid picking a winner and loser, since it depends on how you are going to use the car.
Drove both. The 1LE is too stiff for daily driving
I can't decide. I am thinking the lack of backup camera and wing would made daily driving a hassle with the tiny rear window.
@thomas, that bit in the video was misleading. Only the 2019 and 2020 ZL1 1LE didn't have the camera. It came back for the 2021+ model year. czcams.com/video/bsL9hRSlq7Y/video.html
Same with the ZL1 as the other said, 2021+ of all those cars have the rear view camera thing. So even if I personally like a 2017 ZL1 for the leather steering wheel, we all gotta lot for a 2021+ ones to survive on the street roads 😂😂
ZL1 JUST RIGHT FOR ME MANUAL VARIANT
How much of a difference in ride quality do the non-R compound tires make? Wondering if they might help the ride enough to make it lady friendly
Nicholas, the 3R tires don't ride noticeably rougher on the street. The tire compound and wet/cold weather performance sucks on the street. czcams.com/users/shortsajg-o_P9GAY?feature=share
Do I really need a 1le? Why yes, yes I do
Maaaan do i need it? No...did i get it? Yes
Are there any engine component differences. With the zl1 it’s says use oil (5w30) but the zl1-1le get 0w 40
None. The higher viscosity oil is recommended due to the higher cornering g-forces at high oil temperatures.
Ive wanted a 2014/15 Z-28 ever since they hit the pavement. Watching the car run @ the Ring was unbelievable.........then seeing this car destroy (hp helps too) the Z28 run by nearly 20 sec (?) was the ultimate jaw dropper..........This car is the total package. GM/Chevy should burn in hell for dropping this beautiful car.
Thanks for commenting @SDRacing88. There are two Z28 cars in the Racing for ALS team garages. The ZL1 1LE is faster, but the LS7 is magical when modified. Video of a 540 RWHP Z28 👉👉czcams.com/video/sdM1I3r-DCg/video.htmlsi=fPDzakUZJWuy4Q61
Where do you purchase the aero to add to the ZL1? Through GM?
Yes. The standard ZL1 front bumper is marked on the inside where to cut the slots for the dive planes. Everything else is a direct replacement.
If someone bought the ZL1 what aftermarket mods would you recommend inorder to get it closer to the performance of the 1LE but still keep its driving quality for daily driving? Cost associated for changes?
The front aero and rear wing, plus a set of 19" track wheels and tires will get a big boost in performance with zero impact on daily driving. The only exception is the spoiler can limit rear visibility a little more on cars that don't have the rear camera mirror. Aero with an aftermarket spoiler is $2300. Track wheels are $2000. A set of Goodyear 3R tires is around $1700.
@@RacingforALS Nice! Where do you go to track your car? Are you a SCCA member?
@@robedwards6926 Several of us are SCCA members and run regional and national Time Trials. We recently ran the SCR Region Time Trial at Carolina Motorsports Park. czcams.com/video/N_Ykpzyo7lU/video.html

I wish this chevrolet model was available in Australia.
I think GM imported some Camaro ZL1 cars and converted them to right-hand drive. I don't believe that they had the 1LE package.
I have a '22 ZL1 1LE and you are wrong about the rearview camera. The camera in the shark fin is the only way you can see over the rear wing.
It only was not an option 19-20 for some reason on the ZL1 1LE. It became standard in 2021.
We issued a correction here after contacting GM. czcams.com/video/bsL9hRSlq7Y/video.html
You don’t need anything! I chose a ZL1/1LE and a Z06/Z07 because those were the best applications for me! Everyone sees things differently.
I couldn't decide between a zl1 or a ss zl1 or a ss zl1 le lmnop so i went with the rs ta giggity giggity gt rstlne model
Main question is do you even need a zl1 when ss 1le is enough for street and track use
It's a legitimate question. The SS 1LE is more balanced from a handling and power perspective. It can also run respectable lap times on tight road courses without long straights. Naturally aspirated power has less penalty for long sessions. The horsepower and more importantly the torque curve of the ZL1 is a big plus. On a track with long straights the ZL1 will put 10-15 MPH over the SS 1LE. On the drag strip it's hands down the ZL1. I think all three choices are great depending on your use and budget: SS 1LE, ZL1, or ZL1 1LE.
good solid content, this was worth a sub. QUESTION; the wheels on the 1LE are significantly wider than the regular ZL1... would the 1LE wheels fit on the regular ZL1? the 1LE track-oriented car actually has 305's in front apparently, thats utterly nuts. but im guessing the front end and frame related bits of both cars is the same. so maybe one could get aftermarkets and have the same super extra wide rubber on a non-1LE car? can you just kinda look behind the tires/wheels of the regular ZL1 car and see if it looks kinda.. roomy back there? if so, we could probly put 1LE spec stuff on the non-1LE car!#$ if so, that'd be some proper 'merikuh shit right there, ya gotta admit.
Thanks for the sub! Less than 1% of our viewers do, so every sub counts. The ZL1 1LE wheels and tires will fit the ZL1, but you can only run -2.0 negative camber on the front and should relocate the wiring harness in the driver side rear wheel well. You can grind down the front strut, run camber plates, or add spacers to run more negative camber with the 19x11 front wheels on the ZL1.
@@RacingforALS thanks. yeah, this chan deserves more subs. that's way higher information density than what you get on most youtube chans. how do you even know about the wire harness thing.. sounds like what was done with the parking brake bits on the C3 corvette back in the day. EDIT; per goodyear website- stock tire sizes for the 1LE = front tire diameter is 98.50% of the rear, and on the regular ZL1 its 98.38% so you could put wider rims on regular ZL1 in the 1LE sizes and 305+325 toyo R888R's would work fine. we ran bigger differential than this on the C7 corvette. no worries.
What's a better suspension overall performance n smoothness?
If you are looking for "smoothness" then the normal ZL1 is better than the ZL1 1LE.
@@RacingforALS is there aftermarket suspension that does both performance/smoothness?
No mre than I need a camaro with 650HP and no useable back seat. No one NEEDS any ZL1. These type of cars are all what people WANT not NEED.
I need
So is it basically a ss 1le handling?
Yes, the ZL1 and SS 1LE share similar suspensions with magnetic ride control dampers and 285/305-20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. The ZL1 and ZL1 1LE share the same brakes, which are larger than the SS 1LE's brakes. The ZL1 and ZL1 1LE have the 6.2L Supercharged V8 engine which produces 195 more horsepower. The SS 1LE is 215 lbs. lighter and some people believe it is the better "driver's car" due to the better "balance" than the ZL1 and acceptable street driving characteristics.
You can also supercharge an SS 1LE :)
I would go built 427 NA instead
@@RacingforALS ahh yes, that seem to be a lost art nowadays. Love NA but that SC whine...👍👍
I know he said the brakes were different colors but are they different in capacity and performance?
No performance difference, just the color. The Silver powder coating doesn't hold up well to heavy track use and turns goldish. Good way to tell if a ZL1 has had heavy track use.
@@RacingforALS Thank you.
Yeah , I'll just put a supercharger on my 2ss with the sunroof
I occasionally miss the sunroof. Great on sunny days and for mounting GoPro cameras!
what is the reason in taking 2ton car to a racetrack? Why not take cayman or brz?
Thanks for commenting. Yes, the Camaro ZL1 1LE is 3850 lbs. It is considerably faster than a Porsche Cayman GT4 or Subaru BRZ, unless you are talking about the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS which is twice as expensive as the ZL1 1LE. Car & Driver Lightning lap times for the #22 ZL1 1LE are 2:45.7 compared to the #43 Porsche 718 GT4 at 2:50.3. The slower Porsche is also $30,000 more than the Camaro ZL1 1LE. The Subaru BRZ is way down on the list at #229 at a 3:12.4 but is a much more affordable car. Source: www.caranddriver.com/features/a23319884/lightning-lap-times-historical-data/
@@RacingforALS i;m from Moscow, Russia, there is zero possibility to have a zl1 1le here, caymans and M are more common
of course camaro is a monstrous bang for your buck
@@sdgsdgsdg54 I understand. The Camaro ZL1 1LE is still in production here in the USA, but demand is much greater than production. I know of several people with orders without a delivery date. They may never get a car.
Does the 1le come in automatic
Six speed Manual or 10 speed automatic with paddle shift
My dream car, but I live in NYC so it’s not reallly the right car (ZL1)
Not a lot of room to stretch it's legs in NYC! Thanks for watching.
Is it bad that i still want the ZL1 1LE for a daily driver and for the looks? lol
There isn't a wrong answer to the question, but the ZL1 will be more livable as a daily driver.
i daily drive a zl1 1le and its not that bad just gotta be more cautious on speed bumps, steep inclines and rough roads
I just ordered the zl1 convertible. Obvious choice for new york and cruising. I love the zl1 1le..but it doesn't come in convertible.
You forgot the other reason to get the 1le is so the areo lol I'd rather have the looks of 1le and suspension of normal zl1
I think he covered the aero in detail in the second half of the video. Cheers!
Isn't the 1LE wider than the ZL1?
The fenders are identical on the ZL1and ZL1 1LE. The front fenders are wider than the SS 1LE and other trims.
Honestly, if the 1LE didn't have the front canards I'd be more inclined to have considered it. I know that they're there as part of the track focused nature of the 1LE, I just hate how they look.
It’s definitely beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I actually like both. The 1LE gets a pass for being over the top, because it’s functional on the track.
It looks like some ugly mutton chop sideburns 🤣
the fact you can’t get a sunroof with a 1LE just blows my mind. I would never spend 70k on a car without a sunroof.
It's about weight savings and the weight on the roof impacts the center of gravity.
Both are ulimate level already what else can you complain about?? 🤷🏻♂️
