- My React & Analysis to The Airbuster from the FF7 Remake OST, as a Professional Music Producer.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake absolutely broke me, both from a game standpoint but mostly in terms of music.
"The Airbuster" is an incredible example of that.
OG FF7 vibes mixed with Symphonic and Progressive rock? YES PLEASE.
Let's dive in the music theory of FF7 REMAKE by analyzing this BEAST of a track.
More to come.

Final Fantasy VII Remake
Composer: Tadayoshi Makino, Nobuo Uematsu - Hudba
I got way too excited while recording this one, sorry if I scream in some parts!
NEXT UP, I think I'll talk about Take Over from Persona 5.
PS. The soundtrack's finally out and we have information on who composed this: it was Tadayoshi Makino, what a legend!
If anything it's that passion that makes me tune in each time XD
Your genuine giddiness when you nerd out and obsess over each section is honestly the highlight of your videos for me. Your enthusiasm is infectious!
no. please. keep screaming. it's good to know i'm not the only one fanboying out of control at every little thing with this game.
Do I Believe from Persona 5 Royal as well please
YES PLEASE!
this track went so hard it literally brought Cloud to church.
Underrated comment, right here.
#LITERALLY
Nice
This is literally the first comment I've ever seen in youtube that made me laugh out loud so hard I nearly choked on my water, and then had to get some whiskey. THANK you, lol damn it all thanks. We're at a point right now that little joys like this are our handholds, so thank you Alderic. It's been great to meet you all, take care guys. Be safe and well
@@wren7195 glad it brought you joy brother. take care!
„Man, i love this part!“
-Alex, throughout the whole track.
Same man, same
The madlads did it.
They wrote a full track with NO boring moments.
Same here. I don’t know how many awards a Soundtrack can win in one season, but this one... deserves them all. I really felt your excitement in this video Alex, I was playing with headphones and I could appreciate every layer as you said.
Now analyze the BEST FF7R ost
Hip Hop de Chocobo
Chocobo tracks are always the most raving ones in all FFs!
They deserve a react-compilation video based on them.
Yoooo I 100% agree!
YES
@@AlexMoukalaMusic Vamo alla Flamenco is my all time favorite
I like Stamp.
If FF7R doesn't win some audio awards it will be an absolute travesty.
Cyberpunk Doom eternal FF7 *Let the Battles begin plays*
@@AtharvaMohiteMusic Cyberpunk will probably have a very generic OST lol
@@AliBehroozLinky97 CD project could have done the same for the witcher Series Made it bland Fantasy but Made it much more
atleast it should win best soundtrack...last year shadowbringers ost doesnt event get nominated which is unacceptable lol
It's one of the greatest game soundtracks of all time much less 2020.
"This part is my favorite."
-- Alex Moukala, about every part.
This dude is the most enthusiastic dude I've ever met. Even after a shit day this dude brings a smile to my face lol. His smile/attitude is infectious.
They went above and beyond with this game. They went FAR above and beyond.
They did not have to go this hard with the music.
But they did.
For us.
Amen to that. WELL worth the wait.
Was the music I was most worried about, I was thinking like "well maybe they can just play the tons of remixes we've had over the years for each "random encounter" to cover it?"
Instead we get a musically narrative masterpiece that moves along with Cloud and the story. The themes are intact yet even more complete. Alex said all this best so I be shuttin' up now, just wanted to say hi. Your name and picture made me very happy, so best wishes to you, and all the other replies. Take care guys.
"CLOUDY. WITH A CHANCE OF DESTINY!" -NicoB, youtuber
When I heard that choir part around 13:23 in the game, I thought that they should make the game Rating at least Mature because that was just straight out porn to my ears. Literal chills down my spine.
Airbuster’s my second favorite boss literally only because of that specific part of that specific song. Jesus it worked so well for that fight
This man understands and appreciates beautiful epic music.
You've earned my subscription my dude.
Nobuo Uematsu: *Breathes*
Alex: "SO COOL!" 😎
TheBrachySlayer “My favorite part!”
This legit may be the best boss battle theme of all time. Just absolute perfection all around.
Shadow of the Colossus says hi.
@@CJTranceAddiction nier automata says hi
One of the best pieces of music in the game for sure, the energy it gave me during that boss fight was basically unfathomable
Especially after knowing about shinra's crimes and acts behind the scenes. And the fact that avalanche was spoiled. It gave me goosebumps, specially when Tifa's kicked the bot and said "I'm sick of all this" triggering Cloud's "Vietnam war" memories.
@@rafaelceottomusic6918 For me, it was knowing that all of Midgar was watching Cloud, Barret and Tifa fighting for their lives. Gave me the feeling of being in a gladitorial death match, which always gets me fully erect.
Persona 5,nier, ff7r are legit the holy trinity of video game soundtracks this gen.
Bloodborne as well
MrInuhanyou123 4th place, but is far behind from whichever games is in 3rd place between Persona, Nier and FF7
Music is what make games great. Not the gameplay.
@@leolee8445 music enhances the experience
@@kei7540 subconsciously, bottom line is music what makes certain games great and legendary. If you view all other category objectively it is ridiculous and could make room for improvements. Music is everything.
Don't you dare lose that PASSION, Alex! I love the way you hype when doing these analysis. It shows you're passionate about music and, especially, details. Keep it up because you inspire a lot of us :)
FFVII remake is one of the 1st games I've bought day one and blew through the whole thing in a week!
Jesus this game was such a masterpiece
I'm the opposite....I don't want it to end so I'm taking my time. Got it day 1 but I just passed the wall market theme. No way I'm rushing with this one. Funny thing is, I'm already 30 hours in also...really taking this game in.
I'm not only having goosebumps, but tears too from this music.
Hugs
Yeah, me too...
He’s going crazy for this one, wait till he does One-Winged Angel
If he doesn't do a video on One Winged Angel I will CRY
It doesn't sound all that great...to be honest. I seriously think the Advent childrens version is better
I think the big remaster of OWA will be at the end of the story
The way I'd describe the effect of your analysis to me is that you explain all the subconscious stuff happening when I listen to these songs. It's the feeling of "I don't know exactly why but it's just so good" being brought to light through your dissection.
I agree that it feels like they tried their absolute damnedest to make this the best soundtrack in all of FF history. And I feel like they accomplished it, absolutely fantastic work by the team.
Also, I forgot to add the credits roll of the people who made this video possible by supporting the channel on Patreon, so I'll give them a shoutout here:

True story, must be Shinra's fault
Well thats just how you make omelets.

I don't believe Shinra not only bit.
They hurtin' the planet and I won't stand for it.
Nice that's you caught the landing in this song, if you didn't point that out I wouldn't have noticed until way way later.
"Makes you wanna headbang super freaking hard"
That desire came to a stop since I went bald :(
Hey my hair is super short too but it ain't stopping me

Alex: "A band that I deeply love, Avenged Sevenfold"
Me: "Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well"
Ah, I see you're men of culture as well
YES! Oh man this got me pumped all over again, just like the first time I got to this boss!
This soundtrack is bonkers, they had so much fun with it it seems, threw the kitchen sink at it :D Love it!
I really love what you mention especially how they managed to blend the orchestra and guitars in a way that neither takes the spotlight from the other. Masterclass of arranging and mixing, they totally flexed on us all through the game haha
I knew this track would be right up your alley dude!
Sounds like something that Level 99 Ferdk would do :D
Uematsu started playing keyboards because of "premiata forneria marconi", a seventies prog band from Italy, check out the song "è festa", also a big influence on DT
Really!? That's amazing! PFM is one of my favourite bands of my home country, I even studied at Franco Mussida (PFM former guitarist) music school for years. The fact that Uematsu is a fan makes me really happy!
I love how every time a new part comes up you're like "Now comes my favorite part!" Just goes to show how good this song is
I have never seen you nerd out this hard before. This track is really that good.
I'd love to see you do the new Jenova fight OST eventually
You should've seen my face when phase 3 kicked in on that fight.
@@AlexMoukalaMusic same it was insane 😂 they've done such an amazing job on this remake
@@AlexMoukalaMusic did you notice phase 3 added the beat from "birth of a god" to the jenova theme? It kicks in after about a minute I think.
It was funny cuz my roommate was watching me play that fight he commented “this track is good and all, but I was really hoping for some euro-trash or something ” sure enough P3 occurred right then and I was crying, I was so happy, I had to pause it right then and there and just listen to the music for a bit
@@Tone_E_Tone2181 me too. I was floored.
The OST sounds fantastic, but ia be honest with you, you could review the sound of tincans falling down stairs and I'd still tune in cuz I love your review style so much XD, there is something very satisfying about hearing someone truly passionate about something talk about it in such a manner compared to more "professional" review styles tbh.
And on the topic of the music itself, the breakdown is superb as always, I hope you plan on doing other tracks in the game as well (although I have not played it or the original but the OST sounds so good even outside the context in which it plays). Keep up the good work 👌
I have a deep apperication for the Music of Final Fantasy, when this song came on I was so fucking hyped! Seeing you break it down Professionally and emotionally makes me love it way more! Thank you!
This remastered OST is so insane, especially with the final boss. I have no idea how but whenever you think its at it's most intense, it goes even further and I love it. Also I highly reccommend the Bravely franchise's OST, such a wide array of instruments are used by REVO and its crazy.
wow, that Landing part from FFVIII caught me offguard, would never expect that over there !
Right?
Final Fantasy music references itself subtly quite a lot, but it takes a long time to figure it out
@@AlexMoukalaMusic yeah, good thing we have you to help us out! :)
The Dollet landing is one of the most underrated FF8 tracks and now I know why.
@@HadesWTF when i started playin ff 15 and noticed it was on the radio, immediate chills.
You'll catch them doing that a lot of times Kujas theme when the last batte takes place has a lot of nods to Maybe I'm a Lion from ff8.
7:06 I say it's G major to Db major, though F minor is close. You can hear the tritones between the chords. Great video, though!! It's good to relate to someone with such enthusiasm for this music.
12:40 is my favorite part of the song. Something about it gives me the impression of a second wind, like when the anime protagonist, bleeding and smiling, looks to the villian and starts fighting better and faster than before despite his wounds. Ie its anime as fuck and I'm 100% here for it
3:22 Proper analysis!
Not sure how I stumbled upon this channel but I’m glad I did! I love electronic, rock, and orchestra stuff from games. You seem to have ALOT of that here. I look forward to more music analysis. I wonder if it’ll match with what I have on my soundcloud playlist. So far it does!
The ENTIRE FF7R OST is so damn good it's crazy
Hope ya do a review of the Jenova Dreamweaver music.... that brought chills to my spine.
This is exactly what I thought. Hope he does it! :D
You mentioned Attack on Titan now i want a video about the soundtrack
It'd be cool, but I heard anime music is pretty crazy with copyright issues on CZcams.
Even if the way I use this clip is fair use for the purpose of teaching, I'll have to see if it's safe to do that with anime music!
I hope you can manage something! Looking forward to it.
Alex Moukala Music Maybe you could talk about the music of Bravely Default? It’s the same music group.
If not "Light and Shadow" might be a good substitute. Same composer, but made for a cinematic trailer for League of Legends.
Actually, on the official OST and every online outlet it says that both this and Jenova boss themes were arranged by Tadayoshi Makino. Tadayoshi even confirmed it on Twitter. Hamauzu and Suzuki weren't involved in these two. And they're by far the best two in my opinion. Geniuinely surprised. I like this style way more though. Tadayoshi's a monster! Would LOVE for you to dissect most of boss themes BTW. They're so amazing!
How come he's not mentioned in the credits?
@@CJTranceAddiction what?! Have you seen the tracklist on the physical OST and online too?! lol
He's credited for co-composing and fully arranging both of these tracks.
@@PetarBladeStrok Ok, ok, I had no idea. No I did not look into that. But is he mentioned in the opening credits in-game? I noticed Masahi's and Nobuo's names but do not recall his.
Fan-boying is okay. Specially for the masterpiece-level music of FFVII:R
Holy crap awesome analysis!! So detailed and passionate - absolutely love it, helps us appreciate the music so much more! Thanks Alex!!
That part you mentioned about FF8 Landing theme BLEW MY MIND. I had NO IDEA. Both games were a HUGE part of my childhood, the FF7 boss theme is one of my favourite tracks of all time, how did this pass me by!
Great video, absolutely love your enthusiasm!
14:35... Me: "Ooooooh I didn't know it was about Bimbo Salmons, that makes soooo much sense!"
The secret was in front of us all along

Holy crap, I never thought of music like this. I'm mesmerized. Also, the amount of love put into the songs is nothing short of perfection.
I love your passion! Please don't stop getting excited and nerding out. The sheer joy you exude when you do this is infectious and delightful. Can't for more!
What makes Uematsu so good are he pays attention to the "time ticking bomb" battle atmosphere, which at time almost end the music become rushing that makes player feels being panic!. It is same when against Sephiroth
You've showed up in my recommended many times now, but I don't think I've ever watched any of your videos until just now... I regret waiting so long, haha! Your enthusiasm is infectious, I love it!
This is one of my top favorite songs in the game. I just can't help but jam to this song.
I check out this video just to hear you dissect the sound and hyping it up! It makes me ultra happy, bro!
It makes me appreciate the tracks even more and I can't stop listening to it!
I just have to say I appreciate you making content like this because I've always enjoyed listening to video game/anime/movie osts and I didn't know anyone else who would appreciate music like this so I mostly kept it to myself, but seeing you get so hype listening to some of my most favorite tracks of all time (airbuster being one of them) I related so much to your enthusiasm, so thank you!

So glad I stumbled across this. Love how hype you are about a track that absolutely deserves it, and out of nowhere you mention the bassist from my favorite band MUSE. Great video!
I love how with every track you've broken down for this game is just my inner reactions backed up by musical knowledge. Such a joy to watch someone geek over this epic OST! Keep it up!
11:30 I was thinking exactly about Nightwish in that moment, and few secs later you mentioned it :D
The FF8 reference you found is also amazing... It was really well hidden.

Hi Alex, I'm your new follower. Man, thank you for relaying our feelings when hearing the beloved FF7 soundtracks in words. Watching your video makes me smile even though I'm not having a background. Thank you very much!
The best thing about the FF7 soundtrack is that despite the fact that they’ve done an upscaled, modern re-instrumentation of the original, the original is STILL relevant, still listenable, and still worth going back to to listen to the unique sounds and styles that it has to offer. Such a sonic masterpiece, the old soundtrack, as well as the new one.
Yeah, nothing will ever take away from the original that started it all.
Amazing analysis. I can really see how much you love this piece, real kudos on how you went in depth picking apart each part individually. I'm not sure about other people but this is exactly what I love to see and hear about in this type of content. With your enthusiasm added on top, it really makes for a fun and enlightening watch. Awesome work. This might be the highlight of the whole game music wise, isn't it.
Man, the way you analyze these tracks always gets me hyped up. Thanks for the massive mood boost, my dude!
OH MY GOD, FF8'S THE LANDING WAS THERE! 💓 Thanks so much for reviewing this, is my favorite track of the whole OST (as of now, haven't finished the game yet). I mean, symphonic progressive metal in a main FF game is one of my Dreams come true! More FF meets Bloodborne, SE music team!
So good! Loved the video and your enthusiasm man!
I'm late to this channel and this video, but what a phenomenal breakdown! Loved the video. I haven't watched a video this long in ages. Can't wait for more!
This game and its soundtrack are an absolute masterpiece. I love that you touched on Collapsed Expressway briefly in the beginning - what an amazing song!
This soundtrack is something special.
I just discovered your channel. I really like your music break downs, they are a masterful technical deconstruction of the many layers and music theory that go in to providing memorable music for a lot of my favorite games. Keep up the great work :!D

I absolutely loved your analysis. Thank you for highlighting the prog elements and Uematsu-san's appreciation of the art form (and his own contributions to it), and for also echoing my personal sentiments on how it sounded reminiscent of FF12's musical execution (at moments). I also hear some of that in this game's version of One-Winged Angel. Stay healthy and best wishes!
