  • Hey guys,
    Here with a video of me replacing my old worn out posi and gear set on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4.
    The project alone was a huge undertaking (partly due to working on the ground), but filming it was also a huge task.
    Hope anyone that find this video helpful to give me a like.
    There will be more videos showing the drivability later on.
    Here's a link to the kit I used.
    www.ebay.com/i...
    I used Rockauto for the bearings and seals.
    Thanks for watching.

    Rad video man.. most people wouldn't show the surprises that you inevitably run into when doing a job like this.. Thanks for showing how you got through them!

    Beautiful pattern for using the same shim. I'm seriously considering doing that and not having to do a trial setup, two crush sleeves doesn't sound thrilling.

      Honestly. Out of all the rebuilds I have done, probably only 20% needed to have a full measured setup, arbor disc and pinion depth measurements etc. But I rebuild mostly chrysler 9.25, AA 11.25, or ford 8.8. Backlash, pattern, and torque to rotate are my main concerns.

      @@thisworldisfckd6676 can I use the same pinion shim for 4:10 gear ratio I heard your not supposed to supposed to use the ones they give for rebuild kit to get right pinion depth wondering really need some help

    • @thisworldisfckd6676
      @thisworldisfckd6676 Před rokem

      @josehuerta801 a pinion shim is a pinion shim, but if your changing gear ratios then no, you will need to find the correct shim for that setup. Measure with a micrometer to double check shim thickness. I've never heard of not using Ford rebuild shims, and I've never had a problem with them.

    How do you like the posi? I have an 01 2wd 1500 and I'm thinking about ether a posi or some kind of locker. My driveway is crazy steep and all decomposed granite. I've been burning out the passenger side tire every year so I'm hoping something like this will help me out. When it rains it's next to impossible to get up the hill...

      I like it a lot. I haven't even put my front drive shaft back in yet. There's a beach by my house and I took the truck out there on multiple occasions and it doesn't even need 4wd drive any more. Only time I think I'd use 4wd is if I was doing something I know I shouldn't be doing anyways.

      Well it's not easy lol. Working on the ground under a vehicle never is and I'm 240lbs. Lol. I pull my 20ft car hauler and it pulls like a dream. Your not gonna do any speed runs, but it pulls mine 65ish pretty well. My motor is worn smooth out too. Drinks oil, piston slap, and has tons of blow by. I can only imagine a truck with a good solid engine would pull like. I'll be rebuild my engine sometime soon. I haven't done the front yet (I don't mud). I have the 4.56s for the front too, just haven't done it. I've been to busy hauling cars and trying to make money.

    Question: What is the purpose of the "crush sleeve" on the pinion gear shaft?

    • @james4wd236
      @james4wd236  Před 2 lety

      Its to keep pressure on the outer pinion bearing inner race and keep it from moving on the pinion shaft. It also keeps pressure on the pinion nut.

      @@james4wd236 Thanks. I think I understand. This distance varies from gear to gear, so it has to be somewhat conformable, I think.

    That dash is all but gone...want a really fun project?? Yep that dash ..not oh boy super pain in the azz. Took hours to get it out of the junkyard truck .and was not nice about it .wire cutters and sawzall.tons of rivers to drill out ...then took another 4 months of looking at it in the shop. Two days later I had taken what was left of the super Arizona cooked dash.so brittle pieces shattered and fell into places never to be seen again .but soon worth it especially when I seen yours ..mine was the same maybe worse.you are not tricking anyone with the dash mat..they protect your dash..ha ha hehe real funny no .used to cover the dodge broken plastic dash like a sheet covers a dead body...but for real that dash is a check of a project but so worth it when it done..Nobody goes dam dude what happened to the dash.? Dam dude I had to spun out raccoons locked in my cab .what do you think pretty cool.? Well anyhow the screws in the backside of the passenger side above the globe box is the toughest.at of screw you can't see removing the printed towards yourself ..
