I was nine years old in 1969, and I was fortunate to have built the Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolfman in the "Frightening Lightning" long box. The others I built were all in the square box, but I'm thankful I had the chance to build those as well.
Funny story about the Dracula kit. In the summer of 1969, I had helped my then teenage cousins with something, and they took me to Woolworth and let me pick out a model kit for my assistance. I chose the Dracula kit, and as we were leaving, my oldest cousin sagely told me that, "Vampires don't 'glow-in-the-dark.'" Flash forward some half a century, and I bought one of their daughters a figure they wanted of Edward Cullen from "Twilight." I couldn't resist telling her that, "Vampires don't 'sparkle.'" It took her dad a second, but he smiled broadly when he got the reference . . . .
    Thanks for sharing this!

I still have all of these classic model kits! Unfortunately, they’re all in pieces now, due to damages suffered when I moved to another place a few years ago. I’ve GOT to get them repaired and reassembled, if I want to re-live the former glory of my childhood!

Great memories. I started building the figures at 8 yrs old. I think I built everyone that was out at the time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.👍

As a kid in the 1970s I had the King Kong model at least 4 times as I would build, then play with until it completely broke and disappeared. The earliest one of mine had the dinner-mint green details and the last one, which was still lingering on the shelf of a discount-variety store just before 1980 had tan details. All of the kits were the glow versions in the square box. I thought that was the only box the kit ever came in, until I saw pictures of the other versions in the late 1990s.

@@TheModelVault my builds back then were globs of glue and paint streaks. Loved every minute.

In the latter half of the 60's I built the Wolfman, Godzilla, and the Witch. My brush painting skills were lacking, so they didn't look too great. My recent builds of the Atlantis repops are much better. You older folks may remember the Dick Van Dyke tv show from the 1960's. One of the last episodes in the spring of 1966 had scenes in the son Richie's bedroom. He had some monster models including the Guillotine.

I remember back then the hair from the brushes from the drug store would come off when painting and stick to the model. i would always make a mess...

Great video. Thanks for making it. I had The Witch and The Phantom of the Opera when I was young. I think I blew them up with firecrackers. What a shame.

What are the differences between the lightening issue kits and the standard model?
Wish they made a durable 1:1 scale version of the forgotten prisoner, would look nice on the outside wall before entering your house.

If the molds of the Bride were broken, how is it that Polar Lights was able to produce a kit?

Someone suggested that kits like the bride and jeckyll and Hyde might have been reversed
Engeneered...as we are not sure what molds we're destroyed because of that "train derailment
And other scrapped because deemed not popular enough.Iknow that Atlantis owns most
Of the Aurora monster molds and released some in 70's style square boxes and some in long box
Format.Even one of the Creature in transparent plastic(abomination!!!).I just wish they would
Release them in long box format again and in original plastic color.

@@user-om9ix2lh3t That makes sense. I've never seen the creature Atlantis one yet, i'll have to check into it.
