- Now we have Vashtorr built, we had to get some paint on to him. And what better way to try out some more of the Speedpaint 2.0 range, than solely use it to finish this paint job. Really pushing the new metallics and seeing what the result can look like...

Some painters just want to get paint on a miniature and finish a project, I think is a great example of how easily that can be achieved with Speedpaints. This really was a straight forward, easy piece of paint application that resulted in a lovely finished piece! What do you guys think?
Love mixing your base Speedpaint with a light acrylic Warpaint for a highlight. Low-key pro tip. Well done on Vashtorr.
Any chance we could see the super dark black that watchit paintit made a while back?
Oh man that box looks huge.
Cant wait till mine comes in.
Vashtorr is hands down my favorite model GW has put out in a while.
He looks awesome! I’m concerned I heard his underpowered and won’t see play? As I don’t really play it doesn’t matter too much to me, but what if I wanna play and my awesome demon let’s me down!? :D
I've the most about how to use speedpaints by watching your channel. Its an absolute gem. Speedpaints are my favorite paints to use.
Keep up the great work brother!
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome. It is surprising how good the coverage of the Speed paint metallics is.
The coverage on the gold is unbelievable to me! The bronze and the silver are good, two coats and they are just about perfect for what I want. But yeah really nice metallics with a little highlight/shades is great. Easiest application of metallics I’ve used to date. I don’t even want to use normal acrylic metallics now :D
Amazing work, The new speedpaints looks awesome.
I love the speed paints and I'm really looking forward to picking up the 2.0 ones
I’m a big fan too, great to have so many new colours to pick from
Fantastic work!!
Looks great!
Thank you!
mini looks great! im glad they are doing metallics now.
Thanks Wyatt! And yeah just another little aid to painting a bit faster when we need it :-)
Very very nice, you make it look extremely easy!
Thank you! I think the Speedpaints make it look easy :-D I’m just happy to be involved
Looks cool.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Nice video!! I think this is still a little too bright and flat. Your application was good, it just needs even a grey primer and white dry brush or a wash. I’ve no particular requests but I’d like to see more speedpaint 2.0 content.
i need speed paints in my life to get my DnD mini painted up can't believe just how good they look!!
At the speed and the carelessness i through at miniatures too. It’s some kind of miracle :D
For basically one coat with the speedpaint 2.0 that's really good.
My thoughts exactly. Not gonna win a golden demon, but holy moly, can it be easier than this paint job? The miniature was a bit of an issue but the painting was easy mode and I’m well happy with this on the table!
Man, after seeing more of those speed paint metallics in action I wish I had them now while I’m working on my Chaos Knights.
Damn, you be finished before they release? Not long to wait now…
The way it looks is 10x better than the one GW posted on their channel. You did a great job keep up the work.
Wow, thanks!
Loving the metallics.
Looking at the reference art I'd probably put a drop or two of the grey along with the purple to desaturate the recesses while keeping them dark
I think you’re probably right! If someone really wants the reference art I think the skin is worth experimenting a little first to get exactly what you want. Great tip
Tyranids, please? If it turns out well, I’ll have to pick some of the new paints up.
Damn, I don’t own any nids :,( I think I have a little of everything except nids. I’ll double check for you!
You speedpaint 2.0 really make me question the point/need of using slap chop! I'm trying to figure out how I'll tackle my first transparent paint session , and I'm baffled at how yours just come out so contrastey with just white priming. 😮🤔
Loved the video and how you ended up using dry brush highlighting.
I would love to see a video where you use layering highlights on top of speedpaint. I do prefer the finish of an acrylic layered mini, would love to see how you'd do it, coz your awesome 😎
Did you see my video on slap chop? I questioned the point of it too. Just Speedpaint is faster and to me looks pretty good! But through the video I get better at it and can see a time and a place. Outside of that video though, I’ve moved to doing it a lot because it hides the joins where two colours meet :D means I can be messier and paint faster! I do a Zombicide character every evening at the moment!
@@WatchItPaintIt yes that other video was ace, and I guess it shows that while slap chop/zénithal approaches might be good for speedpaint they require practice! I've been rubbish at dry brushing all my painting life, but now thanks to youtube and good fellas like you Dana Howl and the Artis Opus dude, I'm hoping to improve my technique. I guess some models, like space marines, with their large flat surfaces are particularly good for white priming. Trial and error! I love your videos, what a good find 👍
Army Painter has always recommended a matte white primer for the Speedpaints line. This is apparent when you see any channel using a slap-chop. They have to dry brush the hell out of it for best results. Sort of defeats the purpose of speed and cranking out table-ready minis.
@@IndyMotoRider Interstingly, now that I started experimienting with the speedpaints, I do enjoy the slapchop part, it feels you obtain immediately some depth and contrast from the get-go, which is surprisingly very satisfying! :)
Looks awesome! Would love to see some Black Templars or Sisters of Battle!
We did Sisters recently
czcams.com/video/26itkLYx5QY/video.html
But my wife recently bought a bunch of new sisters models, so I could paint some of those ;)
@@WatchItPaintIt Thank you for the redirect. They look great! I’m wanting to replicate the box art for Sisters, but I’m intimidated by painting black armor in mass for some reason :D
as far as the new speed paints go, i would like to see how they glaze / filter over a more normal paint style.. regular acrylics i mean. Thanks, love the video.
Great suggestion!
Pretty swish. For tabletop standard it's pretty good. I know you didn't thin the purple down as much as you'd have liked but it did provide a really nice demonstration of how well it settled in. I think I like it better than the kind of washed-out flesh colour on the box art. Happy accident, mate :)
For the time it took too, I think it's pretty good! Glad you liked the purple, I think it looks really nice too, just disappointed because I was aiming to mimic the reference art just for a 1:1 comparison! But you're totally right, ended up with a really nice looking demon flesh :-)
How about doing the 4 greater daemons and belakor?
Hey, it would be great to know your absolute favorites out of the new Speedpaints Range.
In my case, I have the whole Vallejo Xpress Range and around 20 contrast Colors so I’m looking for SP that would complete my range :)
This is a great idea Greg. I’ll see if I can put together a little top 5 video for you
Can you elaborate on the mixing acrylic with Speedpaint for a highlight drybrush? Will Matte white work instead of beige? I don’t want to buy a set of acrylics for highlighting if your technique can get me close enough !
White will do :) I just prefer a slightly off white to take a bit of the brightness/kick out of it. But absolutely try a white. You’ll want black and white anyway for things like eyes :)
@@WatchItPaintIt Would you suggest buying dedicated acrylics for highlighting or simply do. what you did and mix it with white?
Personally, I rarely bother highlighting at all. But if I was going to I’d probably just try mixing white and the Speedpaint. Saves owning 100s of acrylics!
The metallics seem to flow very well, like the vallejo metallic range. But the colors are not as metallic looking when dry
I need to try out the range. I only have the game colour metallics. Which suck imho
@@WatchItPaintIt yes they do. Metal color are universes ahead
Whats your take on using Kolinsky sable brushes with Speed Paints? A lot of social media "experts" are of the opinion that Speed Paints and Contrast paints will destroy sable brushes for reasons that are never fully explained beyond "the internet said so".
I wouldn't use them - and the reason is that the paint is easily absorbed and can get pulled up into the ferrule (the metal thingy that holds the bristles together). Once that happens the hairs start to splay apart. Same thing with washes.
Can you do angron with speeders
He’s so big!
Just curious: why just Prime it completely white? Why not washing in black after the white primer, followed by white drybrushing to get more details? Honestly just curious.
I'll answer for Ben: Will it give better results? Yes. Is it 2 extra steps? Yes :)
Ben likes to focus on the fastest way to get it on the table. I (Mike) paint just for fun, so like you I'll put in those extra steps just because I enjoy the process.
@@WatchItPaintIt ok! Thanks.
Crikey, what daemon did TAP make a contract with for those metallics?
🤔
Maybe it was with Vashtorr himself and the three colours suited this guy perfectly :D
why was the "more medium" dubbed over?
One of life’s great mysteries! Well never know. Always left wondering :D
Because I said “more Speedpaint” by mistake so just corrected it with the bare minimum effort dubbing I could do :D well noticed my man!
I personally LOVE speed/contrast paint. i love and respect traditional painting, but no matter how much you thin, brushstrokes are almost unavoidable unless using an airbrush. speedpaint acts like water colors and stain as they go so they emulate skin or natural colors on a model. this may seem silly, and perhaps my Trazyn is showing, but I like my models to look like a shrunken thing frozen in a single moment and not a hand painted mini.
This is a really interesting way of thinking about it!
Actually with contrast paint it’s way more difficult to paint without seeing brush strokes…
Doesnt the speedpaint ruin your fancy brush by wetting the ferrule ?
I don’t tend to let it run into the ferrule. But it’s definitely I higher risk. I normally use my Redgrass games brushes which have ruined over the years I’ve been battering them with contrast/Speedpaint but I’m still using them…. Like they are still really good for painting like this - just no good tip on them for detailing afterwards etc
You said Wrath of the Lich King ? Did I hear correct? 😂😉
Hahahha. Did i actually!? Surely not :D
@@WatchItPaintIt Haha, nah, I'm just messing with ya. Though if you went fully speed, like Wrath of the “Soul forge” Lich King, you would actually say it. Cause the word if self prompts you to say it. Nothing cannot stand in front of the word "Wrath of the . . . ." and not end with "...Lich King". xD xD
I don't think Ben has ever played World of Warcraft :D MIKE on the other hand has logged at least a couple thousand hours haha. And yeah, it's pretty hard not to say Lich King.
looks ok-ish
Nah it's good-ish at least.
This truly has to be one of the paint jobs of 2023 so far. Watch It Paint It did a job building and colouring a miniature. The tutorial was sentences and contained colour. The miniature ended up finished entirely to a standard. This tutorial really is one of the tutorials of all time, if not just the last decade.
well this video is a vaccine against speed paint. As far as i am concerned, the final result isn't beautiful at all, it's a tabletop standard at best, with generosity. And it's not about your skill, your seems to be a pretty talented painter, but the pigment, the way the paint flow....my god it doesn"t work at all !
Jokes on you, I’m not talented at all! :-D thanks for expressing your comment in a kind and structured way. Im glad the video could help, Speedpaint is definitely not for everyone! Im a fan because I value my time over my paint job, I just want miniatures painted quickly to play games - as im sure lots of people do! But can absolutely appreciate they just aren’t enough for some people! I still reckon this finish is above tabletop myself, but I guess that is subjective! Happy painting fella, and hope to see you in the comments more!
