  • (1999)Kobe Bryant went on a personal 17-0 run in the 3rd quarter vs Gary Payton'Sonics.
We can sum the Kobe 1999 season up to three games, all on the road: at Orlando, at Golden State and at Seattle.
Vs Orlando, KB scored 33 of his 38pts in a brilliant 2nd half come-back. Vs Golden State, he lead L.A rally from a 20pt 4th quarter deficit with 15pts in the final 12minutes and a last second basket to force OT.
Finaly vs the Sonics, he scored 17straight points in the 3rd quarter - the Sonics didn't score during that stretch.
These games appeared to be some preview of what he would acomplish later in his career. You could see that he was already able to outscore an entire team during a long span, or put awesome numbers in limited time.
Anyway, watch the phenom Kobe early in his 3rd season.

This is Kobe at 20 years old. People be forgetting how good he was even then. Came into the league with a damn near fully polished game. Personal 17-0 at 20 years old versus a very good defense. Outscored the Sonics in the 3rd quarter.

Kobe was a better scorer, better shooter, better ball handler, better defensive player, better crunch time player. I am sure there are more but those are the things I can just quickly think of off the top of my head. If you had one game you had to win, Kobe would be the better choice. If your team is down 10 at the start of the 4th qtr who would you rather have? Kobe or Lebron? The choice is simple... Kobe.

The NBA and Jerry West wanted a 17yr old kid right out of high school in 1996. Just crazy. Also I think it's funny, MJ couldn't do anything without Pippen till Pippens 4th year. Same with Shaq, even with Penny and that awesome Orlando's team. He couldn't accomplish a championship till Kobe's 4th year. Every team needs a 1-2 punch out. Nowadays they need a 1-2-3. @qyxzz MJ was the only player like himself in the league during his time. Not to mention the other was his teammate Pippen along with one of the best shooters steve kerr + D.Rodman. He never had the competition Kobe went up against. And i know athleticism isn't the only factor to defense, but even if you play a lil bit of basketball you know it helps. Would MJ be as good without his athleticism? D.Howard, you think he would have won DPOY without his athleticism?

I can sum up the Kobe 99 season in four games...Games 1-4 against the Spurs. When Kobe kept allowing Jaren Jackson corner 3's because he was lazy on closeouts and took nine more shots than Shaq en route to getting swept. It became a theme. When Kobe tried to gun, the Lakers were mediocre. When Kobe knew his role and got the ball to Shaq, the Lakers were almost impossible to beat.
