It's easy enough to remove the mask and just put it back on. The release doesn't take much time and effort. Just make sure you don't drop it if you're doing it while on the lift. :)
for me it actually gets pretty warm in the Ruroc so i dont deal with a runny nose too much. But like fj5snow said below, its pretty easy to remove the mask and blow your nose. Hope that helps man!
I totally want it and I'm still a beginner. Plus, I like seeing this from the perspective of a glasses wearer. My last riding experience was such a positive one, that now I want to go as often as possible. Plus, I found your tutorial!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad I was able to help you out with my tutorial and even more glad to hear you're excited to ride more! Which one do you want to order? Will you?
The video is cool!! What do you feel of wearing glasses with this cool helmet? The glasses are totally inside the goggle? I am thinking of having one of those because I want to wear my glasses to go snowboarding. (And the rg1dx actually look amazing)
Yes, you can wear glasses under this helmet/goggles. Although I still prefer to wear contacts because regular glasses don't have anti-fog coatings like goggles do.
Very nice and detailed review. I do have one questions though - So I don't know if there will be a huge difference from the asian fit to the european fit but is it also possible to put the helmet on without "disassembling" it each time? It just seems like this takes a lot of time. Or what would you say?
I was able to do it with the XL/XXL but not the M/L. I wouldn't recommend doing it this way as it does cause discomfort in the process. When the facemask is removed, it allows the helmet to flex outward making it easier to slip on. If the facemask is attached, there is almost zero flex. I wouldn't say taking off and putting on the mask takes a lot of time. You get used to it and faster with practice.
@@fj5 np, one thing I wondered about was the field of view. Other reviews say the peripheral field of view is as good as other lenses, though one can strongly see the lower end of the goggles. What are your experiences on that with the new helmet?
@@psychris6286 FOV, horizontal and vertical, are functionally fine. Yes, you won't get the same vertical FOV as the massive oversize types of goggles but I don't feel it hinders your functional vision. But I will say that having used low profile helmets, you do feel the size and heft of the entire system when riding. Neck movement just doesn't feel as fluid, feels a bit clunky. I hope that helps!
Well also the Asian fit version would make wearing glasses harder, this is probably why the glasses issue happens on the new one, Asian fit means tighter around the nose usually.
Apparently Asian fit squeezes the helmet front to back, but I don't really see how that affects wearing glasses because the goggles are universal. I'd think it'd be harder to wear regular fit because it's narrower side to side (for the glasses arms over the ears).
Love the review. What size is your head? I'm around a 23" diameter, and looks like that puts me in the M/L category based on their website. I feel like I've got a large head, and worried it's going to be too small. Also, have you ever had issues with the balaclava and the mask? One review said that wearing the balaclava under the mask caused fogging. That makes it tough for me. Thanks!
Hey, so I just quickly measured my head with a tape measure and got just under 21.5" circumference (not diameter). The M/L fits but it's snug and I don't feel comfortable wearing anything underneath it. The XL/XXL fits loose but I prefer a bit more space as it doesn't feel so constricting around my head even when I wear a balaclava. In general, I don't like having a mask directly over my mouth because I like to take deep breaths with my mouth open when riding. I didn't experience any fogging this way. Covering your mouth, however, would trap more of the moisture from your breath so that may be why that other review mentioned fogging. Hope that helps!
That’s confusing. Based on their sizing chart, 21.5 inches circumference would be size small. But you are saying size M/L is pretty snug already? So how did Ruroc actually size you up as you mentioned to have the XXL size currently?
super nova snug for my liking but it's likely the proper size for me. The larger size definitely feels roomy but I like it cuz I wear a balaclava underneath and still have a bit of wiggle room.
Absolutely beautiful I am so glad they came into the motorcycle market, I just ordered the FEAR Atlas. 600$ canadian dollars bit pricey, but so beautiful
It's held up well but I haven't been able to use it much as I haven't gone riding as much as I used to. Besides just some very light cosmetic wear, it's great. The blue lens would be good for bright sunny days but it's not the darkest you can go. For more info, you can visit the Ruroc website to check out their range of colours and light transmissions.
Nice review and comparison with sizes. I'm curious, do you know if the goggles are all standard size or do they vary in size with the size of the helmet? Main reason why I'm asking is because I wear glasses as well and I'm curious if the larger size helmet will have bigger goggles. Thanks!
Hey Mike, the goggles are all the same size. The strap just adjusts to the size of the helmet. And there are cuts at the sides of the inner foam that allow for glasses frames/arms. Hope that helps!
Lenses on regular glasses don't usually have anti-fog coatings so if moisture can get in there and get trapped, even with goggle ventilation, your glasses will still fog up, especially if you perspire. If you can keep your eye area dry and isolated from your breath, you should be ok. Whenever I put my goggles over a soft facemask, my glasses and goggles are prone to fog up. But if you keep your goggles flush with your face, you should be ok. Hope that helps!
This is the second review of seen of the helmet, looks really cool! After seeing Ipod's crash yesterday, made me wonder if this helmet might have saved his face a bit. Either way, any plans to upload any videos of you shredding this season?? Keep uploading man!
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! Yep, will definitely be uploading more shred footage. Still working on my Tremblant trip video from last season too and that'll have lots! I have some shred footage at the end of my recent reviews if you wanna check 'em out. :)
Hey, the Ruroc system comes with helmet, goggles and mask. You can purchase pieces separately but if you are looking to get the helmet, you'll be buying the entire system. Hope that helps! Any order related questions are best directed to their customer support. Best of luck!
Hello, Question? So, I’m a size 23 inch. So, I’m a M/Large. But on the boarder line of a xl/xxl. Is the helmet true to the size or should I go 1 size up?
I'm very sorry for the late reply, I only saw your comment now. Didn't get a notification for some reason. I think it comes down to personal preference. If you plan to wear a balaclava under it, I would size up. The M/L for me is a tight fit without a balaclava. Hopefully that helps, sorry again for the late reply!
The shape is specific to the Ruroc RG1-DX system. You may be able to get away with some different pairs of goggles if you're not wearing the facemask but I wouldn't recommend it.
I see that the lens from your M/L fit the XL/XXL so i guess they are the same size. But I was wondering...if the Face Mask from the XL will fit the M/L helmet? I really want to find this out because i bought a M/L and the face mask is too close to my cheeks nose and chin. I’m thinking of getting a larger face mask but i’m not sure if this will work size M/L Thanks!
Hey man, I think it's definitely best to contact Ruroc directly with that question. It was a while ago but I feel like I tried that before (swapping the masks) but they were different generations so the side clasps aren't the same. The DX upgraded the mechanism. I think there might also be a difference between regular and Asian fit masks.
It happens with me too usually just when putting the whole thing on. But it does eventually clear up when everything is in place. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@fj5 Good to know. Thanks for the reply. DO you know how often Ruroc updates their products/ Tech? I bought a helmet at the end of the season in 18 and now they're out of shockwaves for that particular helmet.

So i received my helmet and myhead measures 56cm i have hair afro and i wear glasses so i got a xl. The xl wiggles and moves around a little on my head when i move it and has a little weight is this a good thing or should i exchange for a medium? Is the medium shell smaller from the xl shell? The Xl feels like it is big i’m not sure about the sizes of the helmet would a medium fit?
Sorry for my late reply! I only saw this comment now in my spam. My head measures 57cm and I much prefer the XL/XXL over the M/L. The XL/XXL allows me to wear a balaclava underneath and my cheekbones don't feel squeezed in like it does in the M/L. Hope that helps!
Hi there, i just got the same helmet and its size M/L so i`m kind of on a cross road bc i feel its a bit tight kind of snugged, cant say its unbearably uncomfortable but definitely feels a bit squeezed just like you described your old one(M/L) Can you please share after some time your experience with the XL/XXL and is it better or worse? And will it be possible to fit the mask under the helmet being so tight? Thanks a lot and i`ll appreciate your advice.:)
Hey man, I'd say the M/L is tolerable but over an extended period of time, you do notice that snug fit more and more and it gets a bit uncomfortable. I much prefer the larger helmet despite it feeling a bit loose and bulky. Wearing a balaclava underneath helps fill in some of the gaps. I have another video trying out the M/L Asian fit Ronin and where it is a bit less snug around my cheeks, I still found I preferred the larger Onyx. I hope that helps!

I'm 5'7" 145lbs but it's best to measure your head and follow their guide to choose your appropriate size. Also depends if you want to wear a balaclava underneath the helmet.

Just got my ruroc rg1-dx helmet but the faceplate slightly touches my upper cheekbones.. It's the largest xl/XXL size helmet.. Up to 64cm head circumference.. I'm 63cm.. putting pressure from the front presses the top of the inside of the kind of sharp edge of the faceplate uncomfortably against my cheekbones.. I really love this helmet and want to keep it but this does not give me confidence if I were God forbid to faceplant.. it could break my cheekbones.. This is the largest helmet size I believe..I think the only solution is to use the exchange padding to fill the slight wiggle room the helmet has (would need on the front inside of the helmet to create more separation from the inside of my faceplate and my cheekbones) but there are no instructions on how to use the exchange padding.. And ruroc customer service is not that responsive and can only contact them via Facebook messenger. Do you know how to use the exchange padding before my time to return the helmet expires? Thank you
Hey man, I'm sorry to hear about your fit issues with the helmet. I wonder if perhaps you just need to adjust the positioning on your head to push the helmet forward a bit to relieve the stress on your cheeks. Or maybe rolling the mask upward? You've probably tried all this already. I just can't imagine the scenario you described comparing it to my own personal experience with the system and how much clearance I have behind the mask. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the exchange padding and didn't even know it was an option. Sorry I can't be of more help. Best of luck with customer service, they may just still be busy from Black Friday and prepping for Boxing Day. Maybe try other social media like Twitter and Instagram as well. Any weird chance they sent you the wrong size and labeled it wrong?
fj5 thank you.. I've always had trouble with hats and helmets with my head size.. It fits my head fine/ok.. It's the faceplate that's the issue..I wonder and am actually hoping they did send the wrong faceplate size (as that would give me hope that there is a larger faceplate that would give me enough comfortable face clearance.. The other option left is to cut the black rubber parts of the inside top of the faceplate that stick back towards the face that are getting in the way of my cheekbones/eye socket bones..I did hear back about 20 mins ago but again it was a quick abbreviated message basically saying I have the largest they offer and will have to return but cutting those rubber parts away will prevent me from returning, but if it fits after cutting those away I wouldn't need to return..I hope this works out as with my head size this seems to be my last option to find a full face, lightweight, well ventilated helmet for e boarding, e biking and snowboarding. Certainly that looks this great..I hope they can figure something out for me..
@@justinspirational Maybe you could order a spare mask asap in case your cutout idea doesn't work? That way you can still return the original order with the spare mask?
@@fj5 I had the largest xxl size faceplate- but I fixed it by pulling off those black rubber pieces on the inside top of the faceplate that stick towards the face (bad design feature in general IMHO as for anyone any impact on the face will force those pieces towards our faces in general and that can't be good for anyone)- after pulling off those black rubber pieces there were still sharp plastic pieces pointing towards the face underneath so I got rid of those by sanding down the surface nice and flush with a Dremel tool and sanding bit and now can comfortably wear the helmet which I'm so happy to report as I love the design and look otherwise as well as the light weight and ventilation and face protection for e board sports, snowboarding and e biking- hard to find another helmet as perfect as this for my head size....

I want it to feel comfortable and last a couple years so if you could reply that would be awesome!
Hey, I have the same head size measurement 57.5cm (it was in the video description). My last helmet was a M/L Asian Fit (RG1-DX Ronin, video coming out soon) and I still prefer the fit of the XL/XXL. The M/L Asian Fit still gave my cheeks a notable squeeze. Hope that helps!
fj5 Okay thanks! So I should probably go for the xl/xxl. I was thinking about buying an asian fit ronin but cant pull the trigger yet. Im just worried about sizing since im paying a hefty penny for it.
@@brodyjin thing is, it really depends on the individual. The measurement is around the head but bone structure around the cheeks can vary from person to person. I also like to wear a balaclava underneath so I like the extra room in the XL/XXL. I never thought my head was that big. Haha
haha, well to be fair, I didn't get to ride much with it this season due to an injury. Ended up missing out on my last two months of shredding. Having said that, unless you like to ride on your head/face, I don't think you'll have any issues with the gloss looking scratched up. haha I took mine out a few times and it's still looking nice and shiny!
I am biracial, so I had some trouble trying to figure out weather I should get the Asian fit or not. I ended up not getting the Asian fit, although I am still debating on weather I should have.
To my understanding, asian fit essentially squeezes the helmet front to back so the sides are a bit wider at the cheeks. Having tried M/L Asian Fit, it still felt snug for me at the cheeks. That video is coming out soon. I still prefer the XL/XXL.
The fitting is pretty specific to Ruroc's goggle design measurements and shape. So unfortunately I wouldn't be able to make a general statement like that. You'd have to test out individual goggles to see if they'll fit.

The r1 x onyx looks so much better. Hate when they fix things that arent broke. I Like the padding in chin guard. But the shape of the onyx is way cooler
I think the shape of the Onyx is like that because it's a larger size. But I really do prefer its gloss black finish. As for the chin guard, that was my mistake. The Carbon was a Limited Edition model so it came with the premium magnetic chin clasp and padding. The Onyx, however, was part of their regular line. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'd recommend you purchase when they have a really good promotion going on like Black Friday or Boxing Day. They really are quite pricey but at the same time, it is a full system with helmet, goggles, and hard mask. You could spend the same buying all of that separately. It's really up to your own personal judgement.
You can use a soft tape measure or some string and whatever measurement tool. You basically go around your forehead but they have better instructions on their website. Hope that helps!

For this money, I expected to something perfect with no isseus. Thank you in advance!
Hey, I just looked at my Onyx and although I'm not sure what you meant exactly by sides where the liner is, I wasn't able to find any issues with glue not sticking correctly. If you mean the felt liner inside the mask, that's actually completely removable so you can wash it and put it back. In terms of the helmet itself, not sure where to look. Could you describe your issue with a bit more detail?
Hey man, my head measurement whas excatly the same as yours! But I am a but of in a crossroad here. I dont like to have a helmet on that is tight because I will get a headache, but I want to use this helmet for snowboarding AND ridding my electric longboard (she is a faaaasssst bitch, up to 50 km/h). That means that in winter flr sure I will have something covering my head, but in summer tvere is NO chance of that. What do you think? can you feel confortable with that helmet WITHOUT something over your head? Thanks man! amazing vids by the way 🙂
I think M/L is the safer way to go especially if you plan to use it on your electric longboard. XL/XXL has quite a bit of movement on my head. I don't mind it, but you might.
Vision actually isn't that bad because it's really the goggles that dictate field of view and they pretty much have the same coverage as high end snowboarding goggles. The size and extra heft do affect movement speed (turning your head) though and I do prefer a standard helmet goggle combo.
@@ewoudvandenberg1 There was a lot to cover especially since I compared it to the previous model. Again, feel free to speed up the playback if you want to get through all the content more quickly. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah, you could. Goggles would be first because that's pushed up against your face. Then you could slide off the entire helmet with mask at that point.
They have some pretty decent sales from time to time. But yeah, it's pricey because it's a complete system with goggles and mask. Take a POC or Burton helmet plus an Oakley pair of goggles and the total cost gets pretty close. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Did you mean because of my vitiligo? That's actually an accurate observation! The white patches are more susceptible to UV damage so it's definitely a good idea to cover up. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hey, so I just quickly measured my head with a tape measure and got just under 21.5" circumference (not diameter). The M/L fits but it's snug and I don't feel comfortable wearing anything underneath it. How has the Ruroc helmet held up so far? Also, is the blue lens good for bright sunny days on the mountain for eye protection?
It's held up well but I haven't been able to use it much as I haven't gone riding as much as I used to. Besides just some very light cosmetic wear, it's great. The blue lens would be good for bright sunny days but it's not the darkest you can go. For more info, you can visit the Ruroc website to check out their range of colours and light transmissions.
This is why I bought mine
You mean this video? Oh wow, glad I could help man! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks so much fj5 for the info and response that helped me a lot! Have a great day :)
Hey, good video, quick question: Will glasses fog up if i wear them underneath the goggles, if i wear the facemask?
Lenses on regular glasses don't usually have anti-fog coatings so if moisture can get in there and get trapped, even with goggle ventilation, your glasses will still fog up, especially if you perspire. If you can keep your eye area dry and isolated from your breath, you should be ok. Whenever I put my goggles over a soft facemask, my glasses and goggles are prone to fog up. But if you keep your goggles flush with your face, you should be ok. Hope that helps!
They sell anti fog sprays you can spray your glasses with.
Can a different brand of goggle be used with the mask on?
I'm going to say no, it's a very snug and customized fit and everything is aligned as a system.
What are those ski goggles, what are you showing in the kit if I have to buy them separately? I ask for help because I want to buy this helmet
Can you wear any other goggles or they have to be the ones that came with !?
The shape is specific to the Ruroc RG1-DX system. You may be able to get away with some different pairs of goggles if you're not wearing the facemask but I wouldn't recommend it.
Did you buy the adverse weather pack or it come with the helmet
I didn't buy any of it actually, but I don't think the adverse weather pack comes standard with the helmet. I think it's separate.
Do you know if all helmets come with goggles or is that a separate purchase?
I believe all their helmets come with goggles and mask as a set.
fj5 ok, thanks. Awesome design, truly look like a tie fighter helmet lol
Sick helmet!
Awesome video
Thanks so much!
I love mine! Except the lens on the goggles keeps fogging up. Might be user failure though
@@JoshZlatkin Apparently the RG1-DX SHOCKWAVE AUDIO SYSTEM on their website says it's compatible with Series 3 and any RG1-DX helmets bought after or in the 2018 season.
@@fj5snow Thanks for the quick answer bro, i really appreciate it. I got to read most of the comments here and your answer and giving that my head size is 61-62 i dont know what i was thinking with M/L 😁 i’m gonna try sell it and get a XL. Thanks again and happy holidays:)
Hello man. Can please you tell me what size is your head in centimeters ? Thanks a lot !
Hey man, when I measured for my first Ruroc (RG1-X Carbon), I measured 57cm for my head. I hope that helps!

@@fj5 I'm literally in the process of ordering one right now. Your review sold me. Out of curiosity is there a lot of head wiggle room for you using the XL? Our heads are pretty much the same sizing cm wise.
@@findingneutral I think I'm 57.5cm last time I measured. I wear a balaclava underneath and still have a noticeable wiggle but I much prefer that over the squeeze feel of the M/L size. Maybe it's just the shape of my head, I don't know. Even the Asian Fit M/L had that squeeze too.
@@fj5 I'm at 56ish cm. Yeah, I'm with you. I'll take a looser fit than too tight any day all day. Thanks a bunch for answering my questions. Much appreciated as helmets are like shoes for your head. No one wants to deal with returns.

Noticed theres no foam padding on the front mask part, isnt that a problem?
Ben Lee who cares? It looks cool. That’s what matters :)
Sorry for the super late reply, I only saw this comment now. The front mask doesn't actually make any contact with your head or face. The impact protection is for your skull so that's where the foam is. The face mask is just meant to block exterior debris, and yes, it looks cool, haha.
hi. how tall are you and are you a big asian guy? im 5 5 and the recommended size on site is Small on me. i dont wear glasses though
I'm 5'7" 145lbs but it's best to measure your head and follow their guide to choose your appropriate size. Also depends if you want to wear a balaclava underneath the helmet.
Hi....can you tell what’s your head size? I just got a used ruroc regular fit M/L. My head is 58cm size and the helmet is very very tight, squeeze my cheek and jaw. I’m thinking to buy the new RG1-DX asian fit XL, i like to use balaclava and helmet together, do you think it will be too big in your opinion? Thanks in advance. Cheers
My head measures 57.5cm (info was in the description) and yeah, the M/L was tight on me too. I too like to wear a balaclava underneath so I prefer the XL/XXL. I haven't tried the asian fit XL/XXL yet though. I tried asian fit M/L RG1-DX Ronin (video coming soon) and it was still tight for me at the cheeks. Hope that helps!

@@justinspirational So glad you were able to modify it to work man! That's awesome! Do you still get that seal with the goggles above the mask at the cheeks?
I know this is an old video but i was wonder what your current head measurement is. Im 57.5 around and am an asian so I was wondering what size I should get and do I need to get an asian fitting helmet.
Haha
fj5 Thank you! 😁
what about scratches on your Onyx after season ended? Is it looks good or it's like jet black iphone?)))
haha, well to be fair, I didn't get to ride much with it this season due to an injury.
Wait people actually buy these for themselves?
I believe so, they're generally super busy on Black Friday.
Hey Fj, do you have experience in returning your helmet?
Is it better than putting on a mountain biking full face helmet, pls?
A mountain biking full face helmet is noticeably larger than this.
igor goga a full face won’t leave scars all over your face, they are built to take that impact, a ruroc is not. And the look like shit!
@@persandwall3184 Have you researched the protective capabilities of the Ruroc helmet, or are just assuming?
Can you use other goggles easily with this helmet and no facemask?
The fitting is pretty specific to Ruroc's goggle design measurements and shape. So unfortunately I wouldn't be able to make a general statement like that. You'd have to test out individual goggles to see if they'll fit.
Hey man @fj5snow i would appreciate if you reply me. I just received my helmet today and it is ASIAN FIT M/L size but my cheek bone felt tight and the mouth piece is touching my cheek bone as well
Should i return and get a size up with the asian fit or non asian fit ? My chin is long
Sorry for my late reply, I just saw this comment in my spam. I also prefer the XL/XXL over the M/L because I feel the same squeeze on my cheeks with the M/L. And I also prefer the extra space so I can wear a balaclava underneath. Hope that helps!
What is your head measurement since im thinking about getting the same setup? Im afraid it will fit too tight cuz my head is around a 57.5
I measured my head 58.5cm / 23in. Should I be getting a XL /XXL?
The r1 x onyx looks so much better.
Hate when they fix things that arent broke. I Like the padding in chin guard.
But the shape of the onyx is way cooler
I think the shape of the Onyx is like that because it's a larger size. But I really do prefer its gloss black finish. As for the chin guard, that was my mistake. The Carbon was a Limited Edition model so it came with the premium magnetic chin clasp and padding. The Onyx, however, was part of their regular line. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@fj5 actually the onyx was the old shape that they changed on their new lines (although subtle) it's very noticable.
I like the new model but the only good one now is that matt black (core) but I really like the onyx , but unfortunately it's no longer in their line of helmets. Just all the ridiculously ugly designs that have tainted all their helmets. Wish I could get my uans on a (brand new) onyx.
