Mike Smith was THE star of DC5. Never seemed like they truly focused on him in videos of the band. Awesome voice! Thanks for this excerpt. Nice to hear him.

I see them at Tottenham Royal Early 1963 and they weren’t bad at all Playing Live.

Dave Clark absolutely deserves immense credit for propelling his band to the forefront leadership of the British Invasion of America! The Dave Clark Five and The Beatles were the 2 giant bands the led the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermit's, The Who, The Animals, Searchers, and so forth, all trailed the Beatles & The DC5. Also, there's a certain Mr Ryan who had legally relinquished his writing credits via a deal with Dave Clark. Ryan made the deal with Mr Clark. However it seems in the last few years that Ryan has endlessly complained, whined and cried to anyone and everyone that he is not credited with songs he purportedly wrote but are credited to Dave Clark. Mr Clark has the legal right to claim writing credits to the songs. Ryan seems to want to involve himself into the Dave Clark Five legacy. Fans of the many Dave Clark Five fan groups throughout the internet are quite tired and bored of hearing Mr Ryan's whining and crying over any deal he made with Mr Clark.

Uh. No. The DC5 definitely "lip-sync'd" on T.V. A lot of bands did. It didn't matter back then. It was expected and approved of.

The DC5 ALSO played a lot of gigs in England & toured America playing LIVE. On TV, many times they sung live to a backing tape so it wasn't completed mimed. Sometimes it was completely mimed but many times Mike Smith was singing live because as you pointed out that's the way it was usually done.
