I have to chime in on the last part cause that's my favorite part. Growing up, no matter what I got for Christmas my mom always got me a pack of new socks. It almost became tradition. Another Christmas, another pack of socks. As I got older (late teens/early 20s) I was buying myself the stuff I wanted and when asked what I wanted for Christmas I'd just say, "Socks". To this day I tell my wife if she's going to get me anything it needs to be socks. After all the cool stuff I've received over the years, to this day it's not Christmas unless I get a pack of socks.
My 5 yo daughter asked me why santa doesn't bring food to the poor people, how do you answer that without just plain saying santa is not real?
damn
Because he doesn't have enough magic power or elves for that. It takes a whole years worth of effort just to get a handful of toys to everyone, let alone food enough for everyone all year.
Early 90s was when the pirate sets dropped. I remember getting the space monorail set for my birthday and I was psyched. It was a big deal. Me and my brother still have all our Legos, unlike all our NES and other retro systems
My brother and I are both adults with our lives and careers. We still travel home for Christmas each year and my mother and father always have something left out unwrapped that holds a great meaning to us (usually a piece of art or antique) with a note signed by Santa Claus. It would not be Christmas without this little touch. This year a girlfriend was there with us. She saw this tradition happen vocally declared that she could NOT see why we did this. Some people cant enjoy the little things.
Steam Powered Craftsman she sounds like she’s got no feelings what a skank.
Almost out of High School, and my family still do a Santa tradition. We all have a collective understanding that he is not real, but we do it for the fun of it. Also so I can teach my kids how it works.
i got my nes in april of 88' on my birthday. I honestly can't remember any other gift until I got my genesis on Christmas in 92.
Does Ian's leg shaking make anyone else start shaking theirs? Every podcast my leg starts shaking. Thanks Ian.
I love Ian's story about waiting up with his brother to open presents I used to do the same thing with my cousin some years when I stayed at my mothers parents house when my mom was home
I subscribed to your podcast. Awesome stuff. So glad that there's an actual podcast that is geared to the things I'm passionate about. You guys rock
I got my NES in 1985 still have it. the first Christmas I ever ran up to my mom and give her a hug and a kiss
The lost levels of mario did feature a poison mushroom on the first level. That deathroom was an amazing sight.
Americans don't understand European sports like Cricket or Quittage
Fish Renfroe Boyd --- What?
When my parents bought “me" an nes. They would wake me up in the middle of the night because they couldn't get a game to work. One time my dad woke me up and I went downstairs to see a huge party, with all of their friends huddled around the nes, they couldn't get... I wanna say, “freedom force." To work. I'm 5, mind you. I go over blow on the cartridge and a round of screams and applauds came out. Because a 5 year old got a game to work. Now the party can continue. My parents sent me back to bed...wtf right!
We never had much money, but always did very well for xmas. 1992, got my sega megadrive and sonic 2, what a christmas that was.
Oh my God, Pats story about him crying at the UPS truck had me in stitches XD
Ahh, those Nintendo shaped presents sitting under the tree was better than gold. You could always pinpoint them out from the rest, and sometimes try to peel a peek.
This is my favorite podcast from you guys, made me laugh so much haha
Great talk. Love this.
The christmas gift that stands out the most for me, was when I got the giant Power Rangers Megazord, which could either be the big ass robot, or each robot on their own. I remember spending hours trying to put the thing together, then found out later that you could actually do it in like 10 seconds, if you just assembled it, and didn't follow the instruction because those did it like in the show.
The toy was well build, it wasn't just some giant figurine, you could manhandle it.
Your Christmas memories made me reflect upon my own, and it was a nice way to get into the holiday season!
My parents never had a lot of money when I was growing up, but they always got us a few cool presents and my mom did a lot of baking and a lot of the other "Christmas magic" to make up for it. My best gaming-related memory was getting the N64 as a joint-present with my brother. Like Ian, I started working when I was 14 and my mom would end up getting a lot of music-related things in my stocking (extra strings, etc) that I always appreciated.
Now it's fun to spoil the parents on Christmas and make up their stockings. Anyway, Happy Holidays, guys! :) .
Aside from video games, I always wanted the Megazord toy that you made out of the 5 different Power Ranger vehicles. Never got it.
skudzer1985 I just found one from back when I was 5 with the original box. Checked on Ebay, worth $500 :)
i love these podcasts
I was a kid during the Snes days moreso, my first NES memory was actually experienced in reverse. I loved Super Mario World and a friend of mine had the first Super Mario Bros. I was so intrigued by the original, it was something totally alien to me.
When i was 7 or 8 i remember telling the mall santa i wanted contra for christmas and i got actually got it, i was so excited. The best xmas gamimg memory was getting my snes with street fighter 2.i hooked it up immediately and didnt even open the rest of my presesnts until later at night
When you mention not getting much throughout the year, my mother was the exact same way. I didn't dislike this, though, because when I DID get something I was freaking ecstatic, haha.
But as far as Christmas goes, when I was ten years old my mom got a Gamecube (after I had begged profusely for the entire year) along with several games including the four-game Zelda disc, Mario Sunshine, and also with a brand new TV for my room.
It is a Christmas, I will never forget. :)
lol i started to realize when "santa" used the same wrapping paper as presents from my parents.... my parents were good at taking price stickers off, i dont recall getting a gift with a kmart/sears/zellers price tag on it....
Pat singing that christmas song at the beginning brought back memories of him singing "The show must go on" by Queen at the end of one of Spoony's Highlander reviews. To this day I still shudder in pain and and terror.
My mom got me a Wii U this year.....and I'm 33 years old.....boom. (no I don't live at home, I don't even live int he same time zone)
Congrats!
Is that a complaint or a brag? Lol
#SweatPantsJoe..nothing wrong with that dude
Monster hunter 3 ultimate, paper Mario color splash, Mario maker, smash bros, wonderful 101 and the HD remake of wind waker is quite good I hear but Zelda is probably better on the switch, hardware limitations are an issue in exactly one dungeon and made the puzzle difficult to solve, I had to go back to it much later after googling the solution which I don't like to do.
It's not a spoiler to say it was draw distance that was the issue in the puzzle I had problems with.
Christmas of 89 when I open my NES. Best Christmas ever!
We were poor and I was EXTREMELY luck to get the SNES, that was my first system ever.
One time me and my older brother woke up early at 2 in the morning. We literally played Battlefield 3 until like 8 or so. It was a good Christmas all I remember getting was driver sanfransisco and red dead redemption. I got more tho but that's all I remember.
The wall of NES is great backdrop for your show, and the XMAS stories were great, was wondering if you'd put out some kind of video. can't wait for vol. 1-3 DVD's. :)
hey everybody this channel is just great pats story's are worth it on its own great guy greater channel
I remember getting a game boy sP when I was in 6th grade, it was awesome, remember I got super Mario with it too, great times LOVED buying games for it.
Other than getting my Sega Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Christmas of '92 (which I have posted in a lot of other comments around CZcams) I have gotten a lot of awesome shit over the last 27 Christmas's I have experienced. I still own quite a bit of toy's from those many trips by St. Nicholas, I still have my 3 in 1 Batman Forever Batmobile/Batwing/Batboat, most of my Transformers: Beast Wars/Beasties action figures & plenty more which actually at this moment I can't remember half of them lol.
Hee hee, I thought the 1up mushroom was poison at first because it's green
I got my first NES in X-Mas 87, I was 11 years old. That was the best X-Mas I could remember! I regretted ridding myself of the 2600 though!
I feel young now. My very first NES memory was when I was four... But that was because our N64 was getting repaired.
Awesome that u made an episode about it as well lol
Christmas '98- I get a PlayStation and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Good times. I've since gotten a new copy and still play it on my PS2.
I was about ten or eleven and remembering opening up a present around '92. It was the Sega Genesis packed with Sonic 1. Played the shit out of that thing
My parents were the type that thought videogames melted kids minds so I didn't have any until I was 10 when i bought a N64 with my own money by tossing hay all summer. Christmases were lame in my house.
HatedJared farming simulator 17 just came out, hay boy!
For all our sakes, I do hope that was not an insult.
Speaking of farming, The Incredible Machine 2 CD soundtrack had a song called Hay Seed, it's pretty good 🙂
My favorite Christmas was getting my Nintendo, and yeah, it was about 1987. I had played Super Mario Bros. at a birthday party for the first time, ignoring pretty much everybody and everything the whole party. I was shocked when I opened the package because it had the running pad! So yeah, I got Mario/Ducky Hunt/ and whatever the running game was called. My uncle went with me to pick out a present and I got Pro Wrestling, and I can still remember his shock when they range the price up at a KB Toy store. lol Best Christmas ever.
I remember always getting that one special game for Christmas... the ones that stan out are final fantasy 2, ff3, and chrono trigger
I've always believed in Santa. Always have, always will.
My mom still has the Lego castles and pirate ships in her basement . . good memories!
well christmas for me was wake up my little sister or she woke me up. then we got the parents up who said we could not go down stairs until they told us. so there both using the bathroom making coffee and were both just waiting at the top of the stairs and finally after 30 minutes we get down stairs and see at least 10 gifts or more each for us. and this is like 1999 and it was great then we had my aunt come over and more gifts mostly shirts and pants. then we go over to my other aunts house were my dad;s side meets up which is big. so more gifts so ive had it pretty good during the christmas and still do to this day
I remember one year my big brother woke me up at five AM yelling: "I SAW SANTA! I SAW SANTA!" Then I hopped out of bed and listened to his story. The elaborate nature of it all actually made me believe.
Christmas of 87 was when I got my nes at age 5. Played Mario all day, got to the very end and died. Threw a huge fit, uttered a few words the parents didn't know I knew, threw the controller at the wall, busted it and still to this day I have never played super Mario 1 ever again. My old man was so ticked off. We weren't well off either and the thought of spending the 100 bucks it cost and getting a day out of it after asking for one for 6 months really ticked him off. December 26th 1987 was spent watching my dad who was in his late 40 ' s at the time playing Mario for hours trying to get me to play it. It was funny he must have tried for two hours and never got out of 1-1. I then agreed to play duck hunt. It was cool for 20 minutes then I got passed at the dog. Lol new years day, after a week of ignoring my xmas present that my rents acted like they spent their life savings to get, an ad was in the paper for a new years sale at the Montgomery Wards around the block from my house. They had a 2 for 20 sale and my old man said I could get a game if the second one was one we could both play. So we got ice hockey, a really cool game, and I got castlevania 1 as my new game. My instant obsession with that series started and I still have all the castlevania games up until Symphony of the Night. Lol I still remember my old man looking like I shot the dog after I threw my Mario fit. I'll never forget how he looked like he was one word away from strangling me lol priceless.
How so?
I had that zero gravity slot car set for Christmas and ended up taking it back and used all my paper money to get a good train set
Christmas was always painful in a way for me. In every house I have ever lived in the bathroom is accessible only by going through the lounge room where the Christmas tree was. I would often wake up early like most small kids (still do) but my parents would not let me get up or even get in the lounge room until at least 6am, this created problems when I would wake up and need to use the toilet at like 4am, it would never usually cause a problem since i never woke up before 6 anyway EXCEPT when it was Christmas because my bladder was a jerk. I know no body actually cares but I thought I would share my experiences.
yup 87 was when we got an NES, and was also 5 years old. And we had the times when we pretended to be Christian and went to church until we stopped wanting to get up early.
Best Lego set of my childhood was Wolfpack Tower (6075-1).
for me one Christmas morning in 86 I got a NES that came with super Mario bros and then seperately my parents got me donkey kong, popeye, and a zapper with two games duck hunt and wild gunman good memories
quittage for gamecube was lit
Col Wal quittage? It’s Quiddich.
I remeber when my brothers and I got a playstation for christmas back in 96 or 97. The first game I ever played was gex the gecko. Unfortunately like 2 years later it broke (broke our hearts too) so my parents got us an nes with super mario brothers 3 and all was good again.
Thats funny, one of my favorite Christmas gaming memories was getting mario 2.
My first Memory of gaming, I've just mentioned in my latest Video. Getting my Sega Master System and playing Alex Kid in Miracle world allllll day!
I didn't have a Christmas memory but in my birthday... I got a gamecube in the box I was so happy I was keeping everything including the box. But the woman who cleans my house threw it away I was very dissapointed
Ian "Religion was a big thing in the 80s." Freaking hilarious! But i know what he means.
I remember when I first got my nes :)
i remember that was the only time i got a nes game was during christmas and maybe my birthday. one of my uncles would buy me one every year and he knew nothing about video games so it was always hit or miss. sometimes you get a great game or sometimes you get a horribly awful game
i remember when i got my first game (the orginal one the size of a brick haha). Had that tetris, adventure island and dragonheart. then for about a year i lost my gameboy and was so happy when i found it haha
There was never an NES under my tree. Had to save up and buy myself my first console (sets genesis). Made me a better person I think. Mom was great at gifting though. Was never disappointed.
On Christmas 2000 I got a PS2 a extra controller, mad cats black and yellow memory card, ready 2 rumble round 2 tekken tag tournament,NBA street, marvel vs cap com 2 and a small TV for my room omg that was the best Christmas as a kid then the next year I got a Dreamcast with power stone and sonic adventure
Ironically, the first and only console I have ever received as a gift, was my N64. And that was on my 17th birthday when I actually had a job and could have easily bought one on my own. NES, SNES and GB were all bought with gift and allowance money that I had saved.
Back when launch had only two games and the console itself was only 200.
Lol I didn't end up finding out that Santa wasn't real til like the end of Elementary school. I had always kind of figured he wasn't real, but I didn't actually approach my parents and ask about it til like 5th grade or so & they then admitted to me that he wasn't real. So yeah, I believed in the magic for longer than most I guess.
The Harry Potter Quidditch game didn't do well but when I got my Gameboy advance for Christmas 2003 I got the quidditch game and I love the shit out of that game, over 10 years later it's still one of my favorite Gameboy Advance games.
The NES only released in 87' in Australia and didn't get big for a while too. This is why the NES was my 1st console even though I was born that same year. Any advice on collecting games here (Aus) considering our market's a bit smaller and resellers will charge way more than 'Merican prices?
im not a harry potter fan, but ive found all the games i have played really friggen fun. i played one for the gba that was for the fourth movie i think? not sure, but that game was super fun, and was one of the first turn based rpgs i ever played even before pokemon and id really like to play it again if i ever got the chance
My 2 best Christmases were definitely game related, the first was 95 getting SNES with Mario World, Mario All Stars, and DKC. That was such an awesome weekend off of school, and than right after we had the Blizzard of 96 so got an extra week of gaming with it, another great one was N64 getting it with Ocarina and DK64 though this was slightly disappointing as well as I really wanted WCW/nWo Revenge but if anyone remembers as hot as WCW was at the time and the N64 wrestling games being amazing couldn't find it anywhere, still had a blast though with the games I did get, and 2 weeks later got Revenge for my B-Day
Im so late to this but i seriously lived 5 minutes down the road from tops on rt 27 in edison nj hahaha. I bought my turbo grafx 16 from there with a $10 off coupon after mowing lawns for months hahahaha
I remember the Quiditch world cup video game for ps2. i had fun with it, its not an awesome game but its fun to play for a couple of days or a week.
It's a Duster, not a Trench Coat. It's like a Trench Coat only much more badass
the elves cant sauder both those nes games lolxdd
There was one year that I remember my Dad looking out the door like waving bye bye to someone, this was early am but after sunrise, we were woken up with a loud ho ho ho
The one thing I remember I didn't get when I was a kid was the g.i.joe aircraft carrier for my f16 and all my g.i.joes
2:35 Were Ian's parents stoners instead, they would've taught hid the right lesson about mushrooms.
This Christmas my mom and Dad are buying me: EarthBound, DKC 3, Dragon warrior, SNES replacement battery and 40$ to spend on what I want.
Woah woah I was a beast at harry potter quiditch when I was little on my ps2 😂😂😂
I bought my dad a 2DS for christmas. He's been playing Dr. Mario daily (seriously every single day) on the original Gameboy since '89 and it's finally crapped out on him. I pre-loaded the DS version of Dr. Mario and the modern Tetris. He can't figure it out. Well...I tried.
my family couldn't afford legos. we only had mega blocks.
Ahh Christmas, that time of year when kid has hope for getting that speical something they've wanted all year. Sure as shit wasn't getting an NES any other month.
How did you knew Frank? Was it on a Christmas, maybe a friend of the familly? Best pre Christmas regards from Perú.
you should probably use that 50 dollar game stop card because gift cards expire like after 2 years
If the date on my dads video camera was right, I got my first nes in 1989 so I was 8 years old. Then i made the mistake of selling it in 92 to help pay for my super nes :(. When your 11 its hard to make $139.99 to buy a super nes
Looks like pat is spending more time in the gym.. Keep it up bro
It takes you like a hour to build a $ 12.00 lego set? Geez
Here in Brazil those Legos cost a fortune, like 100 dollars for a basic set and like 350 dollars for a premium big box. =/
To Ian. Was that Ocean Beach in New London CT?
Ocean Beach in San Diego.
I'm thirty seven my best Christmas was 1985 and 1992 85 I got my digger Dan crane I wanted my view master projector snake mountain than in 92 I got my super Nintendo with nhlpa hockey mario world and Madden wwf front row tickets. house show the next day after Christmas at the Niagara falls convention center man being a kid was great how I wish I could go back in time! greetings from Buffalo ny
Getting my psp with daxter and rachet and clank
The Quidditch game shouldn't have had horrible reviews, it was a decent game.
The Harry Potter Quidditch video game was actually really awesome, atleast the PC version was awesome no idea about the console version. really sucks they got bad reviews we couldve gotten a Quidditch 2 or something =(
LEGO is from Denmark
Especially in the 80s people loved Jesus lmao Ian
4:40
Yeah Pat is your Dad Frank or step Dad
No.
Pat the NES Punk
are you Frank's dad ?
No idiot he's Ian's dad
will you be my dad?
These podcasts are cool, althought Pat messing with his notebook instead of paying atention is kinda ridiculous. I wish the episodes were a little longer, I love to hear Pat being normal and Ian is a smart guy
Monitoring the stream. Monitoring twitter. Monitoring the chat. Listening to Ian. MULTI-TASKING.
Pat the NES Punk OMG! Pat responded to me! Love you Pat, merry xmax, I live in Brazil, big fan of your shows. You should do a kickstarter for a full lenght Pat the Nes motion picture. Like a High Fidelity kind of script: you getting old and still loving video games, having to work, stuff like that. It would be amazing
Did anyone else hear that weird shit Ian did at the end? He got the darkest, most vacant look in his eyes, as if he was seeing through the fabric of reality, birthing himself from a past life from thousands of years ago....Pat tries to cover it up, but if you listen very closely at the end, Ian simply looks into the distance, his eyes even more vacant and sad than I just mentioned...he clearly savagely attacked Pat, scratching, biting, his hands drifting everywhere, ultimately forcing him to Rollerblade. He forgot to turn his mic off... Ian, please, it's me, Ian...from one Ian to another: ian Ian Ian Ian.
Dat feet tapping.
Lol Ian must really hate doing this show if he has to drink to get thru it.
🤡
@@jbfarley Was just a joke bud, relax.
