Qaz: âYou can see a BIG differenceâ
Me watching on a 3 inch 720p display: âoh yeah totallyâ
Hahahaha yeah I thought it was just me, but I guess is my bad for watching it on my phone instead of the PC. But man seriously, I wasn't seeing sh&$!
@@SoGreatMike Ur wrong lolđ
Same here, i even prefered the befor on the mountain video. On the second one there was allmost no difference.... I rewatch it on my calibrated screen with high dynamic range and try it for myself befor i decide. Nevermind did simmilar things back in the days ,it works well enough.
A few months ago I didn't even know anything about color grading, not even aware of its existence to be honest. Now I'm looking for achieving more and more professional looks, at least as an enthusiast.. And you are doing a great work teaching me and others all these spectacular techniques. God bless you and thank you so much for doing this tutorials and sharing your knowledge. â„
Great tutorial. I find that "spatial" is the more troublesome of the two parameters, causing more of the "plasticky" look if dialed up, so I usually do most correction on "temporal", then dial up "spatial" in emergencies.
last year this time i had no idea about color grading then u came into my life and the rest is magic...so much respect for u...luv u sirâ€ïž
Much love brother
Although this is definitely more advanced than my level right now, it's still very helpful to see what's possible and how a professional looks at the footage. I'm just trying to salvage some underlit shots for my next synth video on my channel, but even just a few minutes of messing with the Noise Reduction feature has massively improved the appearance of my footage. I mean it's not even CLOSE to how it used to look. Basically took the clips from "unusable" to "definitely usable" or even "looks pretty decent." I'm so impressed by the tech these days!!
Great info Qazi! Keep cranking them out!
He always talks about those topics who nobody dares to or wants to keep it as a secret to themselves. I honestly love this guy, You are a hero of a teacher man. Love from India
Is noise reduction a secret?
@@davidesimonazzi1640 No, but not everyone knows how to do it the right way, thanks Qazi
You're welcome
That was amazing. I really needed this tutorial. Thanks so much for showing us this technique.
You're welcome
great tutorial! Slowly learning skills to build my Channel. Thanks for the help
amazing man! all your videos are basically masterclasses. Fair play! Can I ask: I've been denoising for a few years now, just using the temporal NR: giving it a bit of Luma, then breaking the chain and cranking up the chroma. All in Temporal NR. Could you explain why, or how, the spatial threshold works best? Thanks a ton. Keep up the excellent work
wow what a banger of knowledge!! loving it Qazi ;)
Brilliant, thanks Qazi, will try this technique.
You're welcome
Great tutorial as always bro. Subtle yet extremely effective. đđż
You're welcome
Amazing content man!!
This is incredibley helpful especially for cinema cameras that don't have the best lowlight capabilities.
As a long time final cut x editor, new to Davinci (shooting B-Raw) this is THE MOST SINGULAR helpful TIP I've seen yet. AMAZING! Thanks so much for this! SUPER helpful!
Let's go!
this helped me so much for my image. thanks man.
Love it, thanks Qaz. Iâd love to get a little a little more slow down and some visual indicator about the where I should look. Sometimes I feel like I have to rewind and rewatch small segments because youâre saying âsee the difference?â and Iâm sitting here like âuhhhhh, no. đ â _rewinds 5 times_
I am in the middle of your course and I am finding it very useful. I am older and have never til this year even took interest in color grading. As a consequence it is kinda difficult. I really believe that you have kept it simple enough for me to grasp. I am definitely going to persevere till the end. I really don't think I'll actually become a freestyle colorist. But I am definitely benefitting from the education. I am appreciative for the opportunity to improve myself with this course. Thanks
Let's go! FCM fam
My second time in 6 mos, watching this SUPER HELFIL tutorial! Awesome Quick Noise Fix!
Thanks for the tips Waqas. Very useful. Could you do a video on âchurn and burnâ rec709 grading and what are the best node tree/workflow strategies to get that show out the door looking good and on time and the next episode in. This is a lot of the work thatâs out there in TV land as you yourself know. We often get material from lots of different cameras that was shot as log, but comes in as Avid mxf and not original media. Its not documented or fed back from the field to Post So often have no idea what the cameras are so canât apply the applicable LUT. Starting from scratch. Your experience and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Wicked.
I love the banner that pops up when your hitting your shortcuts, sad that I donât own a Mac though.
It is literally MAGIC! I was so tired of Adobe. They felt like a complicated expensive wife. BD, I bought with an editing panel for 299. I am down to only using Photoshop for images and will never go back. GREAT VIDEO, THIS HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH!
Let's go!
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!
It would be cool to see this technique done to noisier footage! Curious what power DaVinci Resolve has in regards to that
Great stuff! I saw someone else recommend changing the color space of the sharpening node to LAB and only sharpening the luma channel. Is this more of a special use case or is there something more to it? I donât see much of a difference myself so far on original BMPCC footage between sharpening luma versus sharpening everything.
Iâm a huge fan!
Love this! Thank you Waqas!
You're welcome
Gracias por tanta generosidad !!! Saludos desde Argentina.
How is this content free??? You deserve wayyy more subs!
Thank you
Its not free..
You sir,are a wizard. This is going to help me so much
thank you sir! any advise on use render cache images in delivery page? what does it do? thank you for fantastic tutorials I learned a lot from your slog 2 video
Nice one mate! Done the trick
Thank you dude!
Fantastic video bro can't wait to try it. However I have colour speckled noise that keeps coming up is that resolved using your same technique. Any advice is appreciated. đ
Great Video! Comprehensive but not too long!
Yes dude! Thank you for this tutorial đ
You're welcome
I was looking for a video on low pass filters but stumbled upon this. Didn't even know this was possible - thanks!
You're welcome
This was what I was waiting to see. I got a huge noise when shooting in Slog 3 in my Sony A7s ii. Thanks buddyđ
When shooting log try to overexpose your image 1 or 2 stops , then use a lut with -1 or -2 stops depending on how much you overexposed the sensor for a cleaner look, remember to keep an eye on the highlights when using this technique to avoid clipping
Very helpful and good teaching
Thx man!
Always a pleasure to learn from youđđœ
You got it
You can do also add one node and decrease the saturation to zero, add a layer node and decrease the luminance gain to zero. The Layer Mixer composite mode must be set to "add". The layer node with decreased gain, is the node to reduce noise, by crank up only the chroma threshold. Its a very good option for me IÂŽve learned it by a realy unknown tutorial, I found however haha
could you link the tutorial?
If color noise is worse in the red channel have you ever experimented on adding extra NR to just the red channel / selectively doing NR for each channel? I've also heard experimenting with spatial and temporal NR across the luminance (more spatial in the shadows vs more temporals in the highlights) might lead to better results. Would love to see a deep dive tutorial on these advanced NR techniques especially for RAW footage since it comes out of camera noisier than compressed codecs.
Really helpful video, i noticed that the blue channel on vectorscope is clipping but in the video itself it seems ok. How did that happen?
Thanks a lot - eye opening tutorial!
Qaz, why do you use transform node to rec 709 BEFORE you local correction? It will compress your dynamic range for grading, nope? it's understandable to use it before LUT for 709, but why do you correct local moments before color space transformation?
After Trying this I had to subscribe, Keep up the good work.. Top A The Top
how do you zoom in and move around on the frame like that and show before and after? thank you - this saved my most recent upload.
What is the difference between using the motion effects NR vs the NR Openfx node? When do you use something other than â1â in the frame selection?
Awesome! But is there a way to remove the artefacts that are occuring at 04:47 in the middle at the top of the shot?
I would love if you could make a tutorial showing the best way/workflow for Sony A7SIII users that want to shoot Prores Raw but want to edit using DR17. What should we do?
I was thinking in converting Prores raw into prores 444 to retain the 12 bits and edit/grade in DR17. If that should be what we do, how much tweak should we do to the Prores raw before converting it to Prores 444?
I truly appreciate any help on this as I havenât found any guidance for this. Thanks.
Very helpful
Thanks
Is this works too with a log image from sony? Essentially when itâs in the dark part
Thanks Qazi!
You're welcome
Amazing! I wish you would do a couple of videos on improving indoor shots made with the regular iPhone 12 (not the Pro Max, just the regular iPhone 12). Maybe cover ideal settings in Filmic Pro. Just an idea like that.
I've just realized that I can't use the motion effects with the free version :(
i have mac pro trash can with two D700s in it, any Noise Reduction I put on makes my final render export go from 27fps (4-5 nodes per footage) to 0/.5 fps (NR+ 4-5nodes) and says 3-4 hour render time... anyone know how to fix???
It's possible to program a noise reduction automatically programmed based on iso setting of the clip ?
What is the song in your demo reel ? Its epic !!!
Thank for the video bro.
You're welcome
I literally just switched to Resolve from Premiere Pro (about 9 years using) because of this reason. Resolve just equals a better image in the end especially with braw and Premiere was better for dual monitors and ProRes export on PC and Premiere is also better with glitching out on renders and crashing. đ
Noise reduction is one of the biggest factors for me, definitely subscribing bro! Love the fast paced-ness
That's so awesome and thank you for the sub.
how did you move your video with mouse ? i mean when you zoom in video to show us some noise on the picture you are easly moving it from up to down and... i can move it with my scrolwheel on my mouse ...tell me please this makes me nervous ....
I shoot with canon r in natural. How can I give that footage touch of arri Alexa mini.
thank you thank you
I use only temporal (3 frames, 10-13 points), if possibile, 'cause spatial NR took away informations, if you care about color NR you can split in temporal settings instead of doing spatial, destrupltive operations. removing blur is another distruptive operation, use it with care
What comes first denoise or sharpen? I think it can be argued both ways but I'd like to hear your thoughts Waqaz
Nice Work!
Thanks
Does this work with free version of Resolve?
I am getting color banding on plain footages like white walls or sky after NR. What are the possibilities that might cause this? I am shooting on bmpcc4k BRAW DCI 4k.
if you find out plz let me know the answer. I was getting banding/mosaic-like artifacts when shooting my last project on the pocket 4k also. It was really bad on the subjects red sweatshirt.... made the footage practically unusable.
May I ask what pc you have or specs? I want to get a pc just as strong and fast as youâres because in my current machine none of this is possible, thatâs weâre itâs at for most of us sadly you need a ultra fast pc especially with 4K h.265 10 bit.
Is there a way to isolate the red channel to only NR on the red noise?
can you do a tutorial about how to put a people small in davinci resolve
Thank you for the video. I have a few questions: what is the difference beween Spatial and Temporal NR? And why you do NR in the first node, instead of the last one? If you claim that the most noisiest chanel is RED, why you do not do the NR only inside the RED chanel?
You do NR first because you want to give the best image possible to the grade. Garbage in= Garbage out. As far as the difference, temporal compares multiple frames, while spatial uses just that frame as reference.
@@lyzrchllyhvd Thanks for that easy explanation. From that, I would guess that temporal NR gives you better results but spatial NR is less taxing on your system? Or is their also a difference in use case?
@@fullframevisuals Temporal can add ghosting and other artefacts. Temporal works great for talking head, while spatial always works.
@@lyzrchllyhvd Good to know, makes sense! I do not own the paid version of Resolve yet, but it's good to be well prepared beforehand. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
dude thanks for this tutorial, but i got to say, i was starting to think you were the silver surfer for awhile there made me kinda wonder about things haha thanks for the advice!!
I like the results I get from Neat Video better than Resolve's built-in NR, but Neat Video increases your rendering times by 5-10x so it's only for the stuff you really care about.
Yep
I'm finally switching. Any comment on how this technique might compare to using Neat Video noise reduction?
Even a rookie like me benefits from this, thank you!
Let's go
Would it be bad if I just turn the chroma or lum all the way up?
how are you able to move the image around when you zoom in? I zoom in but I can't move the image to show me an specific area I want to take a look at. Please let me know, thanks.
let me know
Whenever I try to change the chroma in the spatial from 0, the footage goes all white or black. Only a corner of the footage is visible and the rest is just plain white or black. Renders the same. Yes I did unchain it. What's happening?
Noise reduction tools and Film Grain effect are probably the two most encountered elements that are NOT available in the free version of Davinci Resolve, so it's always so frustrating when I find a video about these topics that don't state in the title that this is only for Studio users. I know you tell us in the intro but still, I was so looking forward to a great solution from you... :(
Must have
Red is not necessarily the noisiest channel, it could be Blue, depending on the light source (daylight vs incandescent) and camera-specific Bayer encoding method. It's easy to check using Fusion or Splitter/Combiner.
Why people talk about noise when they mean colours?
Because the amount of noise has a direct impact on your ability to effectively manipulate the colors.
@@AndrewShtern With noise you mean sound no? I dont see the connection.
Then again, i'm neither a good editor nor is english my first language so you should propably not bother..
@@bubeable we're talking about the video noise :D
I'm not able to do any of this on the free version. Any tips, please??
Isnt better to split channels (RGB) and then use noise im separated channels
when I add the Temporal NR before any node, my image suddenly gets way much darker than it was without it.
looks like you built some muscle đȘ
looks good.. but once in motion, its a different story. I've found that if the subjects are moving around, (ie walking or running and camera is moving) I often see
new motion artifacts.
Man I like your content and this helped a lot. Figuring out if I can drop 1k on the course and do I even hade the time to go through it.
Never hesitate to invest in yourself brother. Gaining skills will always result in more opportunities. Let me know when you sign up. đȘđŸ
@@theqazman I think it will be hard with the amount of canceled work. Will have to wait :)
Do you reccomend using the "better" over the "faster" option. Is a 2-frame sample generally fine?
You can if your system can handle it
make something about power windows what people have not yet seen on youtube
I started writing the same work flow on my project, pc got on fire on the 3rd step.
One question. What is the Luma slider on the spatial noise. I mean why do you not turn it on. I really don't want to criticize you. I only want to understand why you don't use it. Or if you use it only if you have too much film grain?
I didn't buy yet davinci so I have no access to these functions but...damn I subscribed and liked just because I love you made this video ! most of what I shown, was something..useless. :) congrats!
Hello! A 4k/10 bit 20 minute video without noise reduction is rendered in 35 minutes, but with this noise technique it is rendered in 5 hours. Is this difference normal, can this process be improved or what settings need to be made for faster final render?
What GPU are you using?
Could we work in individual channels for noise reduction? I mean: is it possible to apply NR just to the red channel of the RGB?
Yes.
Method one: using Splitter/Combiner Nodes (Alt/Opt-Y or Color-Nodes-Add Splitter Combiner Nodes) you can manipulate each RGB channel individually;
Method two: right-click on your NR node, go to Channels, turn off any channel you don't want to affect.
@@AndrewShtern thank you!
I supraise how much noise in first shot what junk camera how to be its like almost like smartphone footage. Because im learnig by my how get out noise in Davinci I currently practicing in VHS footage wich i most hardcore noise that yuo ever can imagine. Also parcting with footage from old cheap smartphone.
a two minute skin tone workflow would be awesome
I'll look into it
You are a Best
Hey Qazi, just curious. Can this be fixed in camera first before recording the footage, with the correct Exposure?
Sure
Thanks for the reply back. But definitely, a nice trick to know in case someone sends you footage with Noise in it.
its recommended use noise reduction before or after color grading?
Before
What do you think of Neat video vs NR in resolve ?
Neat is better but much slower
