I think his inability to learn on his mistakes is a huge point of his character Like, he did create a shit ton of grimwalkers of his brother and still can't figure out why they choose to betray him
Kind of an odd foil to Luz. She gets lost in her fantasies sometimes but is always brought back to reality and learns to keep it in check and make up for anything she does wrong. Phillip is stuck in his own head and prejudices and refuses to admit that it is NOT reality and so has no reason to second guess or learn anything. That's why he's incapable of learning from his mistakes, because refuses to believe he can make them in the first place.
I find it fitting that, for all the time he’s been learning how to destroy real magic, Phillip is easily outsmarted by classic human smoke & mirrors magic TWICE. (The second time was a combination of the two though, but the way it was used was, as she said, “human style”)
Philip was always my absolute favourite villain from all the series that have been coming out. I prefer Philip to Darcy and Bill. But that does not mean that he is without flaw. Because he really does put too much trust in the small human girl.
Honestly you got to give credit to the writers because every time this characters been outsmarted it's just that being outsmarted with other villains similar to him stubborn and prideful those kind of villains usually end up being easily exploitable but I don't find that with him as much

@@avch1209 This is why I like their parallel, Philip never made any attempt to get to know anyone on the boiling isles and saw them as only evil that needed to be destroyed, Luz on the other hand was ecstatic to meet Eda and slowly made friends with everyone around her, she didn’t see monsters she saw people she could learn from.
I'm realizing he was also outsmarted in Elsewhere and Elsewhen. He expected Lilith and Luz to die while he was looking for The Collector's little artifact thing. Instead he got punched in the nose :)
She thought it was going to make him stop the draining spell. She couldn't know it was also impossible for him to stop it. If she had petrified him, she would have lost her way to stop it.
The first finale was about Eda and King's Tide was about King so that means that the season 3 finale or the whole season is for luz and her character. I mean she is without them in the human realm.
He should've learned from his mistake from that first fight I honestly thought he was smarter then that ) just goes to show they are both a thorn in each other's sides
What happened to him was the smne thing that happened to Scar when he admitted being Mufasa's murderer: They both got too confident, and that confidence clouded their judgement (througth Belos' judgement was long clouded, if you know what i mean).
That and the fact that Luz had the biggest advantage over Phillip that no one in the Boiling Isles had (Except for maybe Hunter): She's a fellow human. Belos never had his guard down when it came to witches and in every encounter with Luz, someone who kept coming close to actually opposing him, he kept going easy on her and tried reasoning with her. If it was anyone else in the Boiling Isles that tried opposing Belos directly, he'd happily kill them. Since, y'know.... He's a -Nutjob- witch hunter.
But I don't get why people hate belos. If have i reason don't like belos, it's not what your reasons. I like belos and enjoying being villain he was born and raised surrounded by witch hunts during the Inquisition, the Crusades and other religious perplexities, etc. Not talking about being an orphan. And rather, he will have a backstory that will make us empathize with him, and I wish that his backstory would not be rushed and poorly written. What I don't like about Belos is that he did some dumb moves in the first season finale and how he was portrayed in the time travel episode. Break a promise to lilith by telling her that he will petrified her sister and then give her a palisman instead of eating it without expectation that obviously she will betray him after that. What a stupid villain move.
