  • Removing the steel toes from the work boots to turn them into hiking boots. Remove the steel toes, sew the boots back together, seal the seams, then later try the boots out on some uneven stones.

    You never cut the Boot! What You do is take a butter knife which is flat . Use it to release the steel toe ( it's glued in) .so work butter knife in between leather and steel toe to release it. Then wack toe of boot with block of wood. Drive steel toe towards Back of boot. Then wiggle it out! Done. Hope this helps before people RUIN their footware. .😊

    Unbelieable awesome job! Just as good as what a shoe cobbler would do. You saved yourself a great deal money.

      This is an awesome diy but if a cobbler did it you would never know, it would look like it came that way

    Wow now that’s an interesting fix.
    How long did your boots last?
    Would be interested to know
    Thanks

    well its actually genius if you work a job that requires official steel toe boots purchased by the company but you want the comfortable fit....keep in mind if you actually need the steel toe for protection this is not so genius lol. If your looking for secrecy I would recommend a cobbler or maybe little more tedius finish job. But congrads...you def did it and should be good for hiking.

    I've never noticed steel toes affecting how I walk on rocks, I need to do this to a pair of Carolina logging boots a have because the toe is too narrow and hurts my feet, its a shame cause there like new

      bosshoss69lee i have a pair of nearly new redwings that have the same issue. My new job doesnt require steel toes, so i’ll probably just remove them.

    Thanks man,I just did it to my red wings,I had them sitting in a closet for 4 years because that steel toe started to hurt my foot. In red wings steel toe made of 2mm steel and glued really good inside the boot.

    I just did the exact same project with a pair of Doc Martens size 12. Unwearable, uncomfortable. I decided to cut the caps out and I find the caps labled 10r 10l ! It was a manufacturer mistake.

    No, I live in Nova Scotia on the southern edge of the Bay of Fundy where I tried these modified boots out on the beach when the tide was out.

    hey, how did you stitch it with fishing line? I have removed my plates and have the fishing line but I don’t know how to stitch, what tools did you need?

    • @BigTideFun
      @BigTideFun  Před 5 lety

      Little pliers push in, then pull through. Or maybe I used a piece of wood for a thimble.

      Omg yes, i want to know that too. My safety shoes hurt thr balls of my feet so bad it's unbearable. I've already changed like 3 pairs in the space of 6 months so i was thinking of buying some normals shoes that would look like safety shoes and just try and glue the steel toe to them
