    This happened to me as well when I bought my 1st truck, the seller played me like a world class violinist & I fell for it like a sucker! Theres nothing more frustrating than working your ass off just to barely keep the truck alive, it almost drove me bankrupt but I got lucky to find a good honest mechanic that helped me allot, finding a real mechanic is like wining the lottery if you ask me!

Brake shoes, fuel pumps, tune-ups,oil changes it didn't matter to him. If they were down on their luck and had to have a car to get to work, he'd made sure they could get there.

    This is one of the few cases where you can actually sue for a used truck. Claiming and showing paperwork for a rebuilt motor is fraud. You can sue for the cost of the truck, lost wages and probably a few other things.

    As a tech for 16 years now I'm going to say the industry is broken. Finding good honest mechanics is becoming harder and harder every day. Luckily I was taught to do good honest work from day one and I try my best to diagnose things right the first time and only sell people what they need. I feel for that man as I've seen customers of mine get taken for thousands at other shops and still have a broken truck or they think they bought a really nice ride until I give them an estimate that is more than the vehicle is worth.
    Mr. Gentry this is a true example of paying it forward. Not buying someone behind you an overpriced cup of coffee at Starbucks, but truly helping someone in need. As a man I know how hard it is to ask for help and you didn't ridicule him, call him names, or take him for all he's worth. Like you said we have all been there before. You are a very humble man and I hope that never changes. This world is losing more and more caring, honest, and humble people. Merry Christmas to you and your family sir!

      Thank you John and Mr. Gentey for those comments and how you help our truckers. It does seem like Tim and you are the real deal.
      Now for the neat part. I started watching this channel and i think this was the first video. Today, while i was at the truck side of the rest area i got to share this info with a new driver 50 some years old, he had just bought the truck and was driving back to PA. He was having an some issues related to the radiator and the Rig shuts down. I shared this info with him and we watched Gentry together.
      We both hope this was his problem, maybe I'll hear back.
      I know many of Mr. Gentry's viewers are spiritual beleivers. You see, i was at that rest area today sharing Bibles and the Gospel with truckers, I'm a Gideon.
      This trucker today was happy to have Gods Word now with him and felt God had me there for this reason.
      We pray for our truckers and now im adding their mechanics with them👍

    • @Calliber50
      @Calliber50 Před 2 lety

      With information becoming a very valuable asset, things like this might trigger red flags in other aspects of the conman's life. Who's to say such lawsuits aren't used in the future to automatically trigger IRS audits. Chances are if this conman is screwing people over face to face, then he's likely screwing over the IRS. Also judges aren't supposed to judge on their emotions, but we all know they're human beings. Human beings who work for what they make and have likely been lied too many times in the past. So a lawsuit might give the conman some very real karma.

      @n2sport1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@elmerg2663 If he text or email them documents to show it was rebuilt though that isn't a recording, those are false documents... Sold as is? He sold it as a rebuilt motor and showed documents to uphold his LIE! I'd at least talk to a lawyer couldn't hurt to hear what they say.

    • @toddmiller5322
      @toddmiller5322 Před 2 lety +2

      @@elmerg2663 funny thing about judges? They can do damn near anything they want. If he can show the seller misrepresented a material fact about the truck, he can win a lawsuit. "Sold as is" basically just means no warranty. If he were to drive it off the lot and the transmission blew up, he'd have no recourse. If the engine had been rebuilt, but poorly, and it blew up shortly after he bought it, he'd have no recourse. BUT the seller stating the engine is rebuilt when it wasn't is a big deal. It's literally no different than spinning back an odometer and selling a vehicle as though it has 20,000 less miles. The bottom line is did the guy sell the truck in good faith without deceitful intent? No, he did not.
      As for recording someone in secret? That depends entirely on the law of the state or states both parties are in. In my state, so long as I am a party to a conversation I can record it. Mine is a called a one party consent state. Other states both parties have to consent, ergo two party consent state. But I can be in a one party consent state and the other person can be in a one party consent state on the other side of the country and I can record them too without their consent. The buyer lives in Florida, which is two party, and we don't know where the seller lives, so the situation is complicated but still not impossible. Trust me, I have recorded people without their knowledge before and completely destroyed their credibility to a judge by allowing them to first lie to the judge and then presenting evidence showing they are a liar. Things never go well for them after that.
      Realistically what this boils down to is this kid is just starting out and he doesn't have the time or money to take the guy to court....yet...he's likely got a year to file suit. However, owner/operators make good money and ultimately he may decide it's easier to just pay Tim off for the rebuild and keep making money than to chase down money that could be easily forgotten about in a year's time. The lawsuit could easily drag out long enough that he'd actually lose more money being in court and winning, than he'd lose by letting it go and instead earning.
      The karma thing though? I can say I've seen people get their just deserts and sometimes in the most unexpected ways. Can't say it will always happen to everybody that deserves it, but we all can at least hope.

    This is a win win situation for him and you Tim. You just added a driver to your team while he still earns a pay check and you can document what wasn’t done to the truck. You have trucks that need drivers and if he is willing to work to keep making money both of you can move in the right direction. When you are done with the truck he will have a truck that has been done right and should be able to make money more consistent.

    I’m 25 been driving since 19. Just bought my first truck a few months ago. 97 fld with an n14 celect plus. Drove that truck a full year no issues as a driver, owner was gonna sell it and I got it for a whopping 5.5k. In weekly payments off my check. Glad to say I made my original investment back from the first two weeks. Since day one that I purchased it nothing but overheating issues and electrical plus the back cylinder head head by the exhaust manifold is warped heavily by a corner. So I just stopped the truck went back to bring a driver, and little by little I’m stripping her down to the frame and rebuilding. As well as got my authority already made just waiting on insurance, tags and fixing that head. Channels like yours are pretty much the ones that have helped me out in learning to not have to rely on a shop. I can practically take apart my truck at a rest area with my setup under the bunk even got me a diagnostic laptop.

    When I was working on cars I saw more people get scammed by other shops than anyone would believe. Now Im driving a KW and enjoying life. I was the same age as your son working on the farm when dad's V8 Mack broke the crank. We needed a replacement truck with a long frame so he bought a truck from a similar speaking guy (as on the phone) who said the truck was from a driving school and would have the frame professionally lengthened. Turns out the seller lengthened the frame and had his buddies produce false inspection paperwork. It was devastating and I never forgot. Thanks for posting!
