WR need to have a rethink of this head contact issue, and find something more like reason and common sense than the "guilty until proven innocent" approach they have now. The one in this game was nothing more than pure accident, with both players so doubled over, I doubt that contact was any higher than normal abdomen height. As a tackler you are screwed and as a ball carrier there is added value in actually going in head first. Not to mention the fact that apparently tacklers don't get head injuries so ball carriers can elbow them in the face with little or no consequence.
The current protocols turn every game into a lottery - not a good sign so close to the RWC....
Was thinking the same. Moodie had bent at the hips and wrapped properly. If an attacker is running with his head first what more can he do.
Also how many of those tackles are made with pick and gos 5 metres out and not a word said
It is a farce and you point out the flaw of tacklers supposedly never getting head injuries.
I'm for lowering the tackling height to below the chest but even that won't solve anything when the attacking player can just dive head first at your bootlaces.
Agreed. What in the hell is the tackler to do in that situation - especially as it happens at a lightning fast pace

If you take a screenshot of Moodie's stance at the moment of impact, but blank out the ball carrier, you can use this to show players the correct technique and height to tackle. He actually did everything right in that tackle yet still saw yellow (I have no sympathy for the 'double yellow = red' because the first yellow was deserved IMHO). If the ball carrier is as low as this, with his head a foot or two ahead of the rest of the body like this, then I feel that sanity needs to prevail and the ball carrier carry equal liability for the head clash.
Wrestling is the oldest contact sport in the world and head contact is illegal but it still happens. These laws are ridiculous. The best is after these head contacts nobody ever gets sent for an HIA. That tells me they don't care about the player's safety, it is all just a way for world rugby to cover their backsides against ex players taking them to court.
The best was how the ref said the no-arms dangerous tackle that happened first is less important than the accidental head contact that happened later. These rules are making the refs look like clowns. There is no point wasting your money to go and watch a game where the ref is the main attraction.

The Bulls got a very good beating. At no point did they dominate in this match. They were out scrummed, out played, out defended. They could barely get out of their own half for the whole match. I wonder if Jake White will come up with any fancy excuses or will he be crying for more foreign based players to come back
No fancy excuses needed when you're playing a squad with 8 boks coached by a proper coach.

@@mvumsiayo3214 unfortunately yes. DDA is decent. But he always ruins attacking olay by kicking the ball away or just never passing it. So for that reason I think he is crap.
@@mvumsiayo3214 Despite DdA not having the best of seasons, that is a harsh indictment. DdA not only has done a lot of good for the Springboks, but has also won us a good couple of games in the process. Just off the top of my head, think back to his try against Wales in the RWC SF, his defence against Japan in the QF, or more recently, his assist in the Kolbe try against Wales in the first test and his try against Australia in the RC. Not in good form at the moment, but certain not so bad that he deserves to be tossed on the ash heap.

Holy crap Marius Vd Westhuizen had a shocker in this game. He was so, so bad!
I thought Moodie was particularly unlucky with the first Yellow card against him. I honestly thought he made a gathering motion and was just unable to get it.
As a Sharks supporter I must agree. It isn't always that the ref blows kak both ways, but when he does it is bad for the game.
Moodie didn't seem to try and catch that ball though. Hendrikse's try should've stood, and you could see how Kolisi started punishing the Bulls players for that shocking call😅 I am sure that the Bulls are blue from all the bruises.
The absolute shocker of a kak call came in the Lions game with the Stormers having a massisve forward pass and the try being allowed based on the position of the hands. That was absolutely rubbish and is killing the game.

I think the difference between the sides was the absolute dominance of the Sharks pack. It gave the back line some freedom, even though they looked a bit over eager.

I was looking at that incident too nothing malicious there he was low the ball carrier was at fault how do you punish the defender
@@josephconradie5935 It doesn't have to be malicious - but apart from that you are spot on. It was a text book tackle made on a ball carrier who matched his height and led with his head (not blaming the ball carrier at all, just the circumstances).
He wasn't red carded for that incident, it was a yellow (correctly so). The red was for the fact that it was his second yellow in the match, which is an automatic red according to the rules.

The Bulls have too many mediocre players. Chris Smith is never going to win you that many games because he lacks X-factor. Jake White needs to find a quality 10 somewhere. Perhaps they could buy Sacha Mngomozulu? He's not getting much play time in the Stormers, so he might be available.

Only in about 65% of the game. There were times that the defense seemed lacking and then the finishing needs to desperately find form.

Right now, RJVR is better than Damian. I am not a Sharks fan so only see highlights of their games, but he seems to break the line and immediately start looking for his support - Damian (and Jasper Wiese) seem hellbent on trying to keep doing everything themselves and it costs us plenty! Right now anyway - hope that changes soon.

Damian doesn't know how to run through a gap, he only knows how to run straight into contact. RJVR actually attempts taking and breaking the gap.

Im sorry but this awesome beautiful game is going crazy, that yellow card at the end there, soon rugby will be none contact for legal reasons. Pharisaism destroys the world not improves it, life doesn't become better but harder, that's exactly what we are seeing happen to the most awesome game in the world.

Finally the Sharks are a team to be reckoned with. However, Van Der Westhuizen was at his pathetic best again. The Moodie red card was preceded by at a tackle where direct contact was made to the throat of Kurt-Lee Arendse which were conveniently blatantly ignored by the officials. Can anybody in his sane mind just please tell me what the role of the TMO is other than echoing what the referee is saying? And then this donkey-sh!t trend of the paint canisters. What purpose does it serve other than to follow the trend of the sissie game called soccer! What has this game we all so dearly love become?
@Edit Name Yes so great that Bafana is listed under the top 10 teams in the world. Pardon my ignorance. Rugby was invented to be played by men and is still today a game for men. Unlike soccer (or the educated name football) played by a bunch of sissies. Call them actors if you wish, but the fact remains that they cannot handle "physicality" on the pitch. A bunch of clowns trying to milk penalties and/or yellow cards by crawling and crying like babies when touched by an opponent as if the referees don't know the rules. It makes me nauseous just to think about it.
