50+km/hr average is just other worldly. It’s good Ganna won in front of his home crowd.
Yes.
🌍💨🚲🦋😱💪
its not, 50kmph avg speeds common in TT in tours for ages, remember the 80's with that and, think Kelly has an informal record on a long downhill of 72mph
@@jcoul1sc Can you average that for 31 km?
Most deserved win for Filippo Ganna.
👊🦋
So much respect between Pogi and G.
Magnus, OUCH! It hurt just to see those open wounds. Agreed, if you're there to work and your name's not Ganna, back off. The twin
towers of Italy, Ganna and Milan, sweating out Pog's ride, that was great. Thanks, Chris!
👊🦋
Magus is being groomed as future GC leader. So as part of the learning curve, doing all the ITTs full gas makes sense. The bigger problem is his crashing, as if he took after Thomas in that aspect as well.
OTH, you can’t help wondering if Ineos actually doesn’t believe Thomas can win. They are letting all their GC could be-s doing their own thing.
That Horner 110 jersey is 🔥🔥. You’re the man, Chris! 🇺🇸
👊🦋
You’re spot on as usual. Aside of the top ten, why push the limit with the queen stage looming. This is a team sport and to see Ineos burn matches make it seem that G is racing for 2nd.
Why didn't Magnus roll home at 35k after the crash? I think he should have gone into recovery mode and eased it to the finish. 🛋️🦋
Well they are racing for second minus tadej not finishing the tour
100 percent G is racing for 2nd and doing a great job of it.
So strange to me why a rider cares so much about a top ten in an ITT when a ride such as Magnus could realistically win a road stage from the break with the way he riding right now. 🤷🏼♂️🤔🦋👊
Top Ganna turned on the afterburners today 🔥
All GC guys rode hard for the ITT yesterday! For INEOS, most of G’s climbing team rode hard as well! Thankfully, most of UAE saved their energy. Today, it’s 5700+ m of climbing! Who’s gonna pull? It’s going to be a day of ultimate suffering for the peloton!
Let’s hope so. 🤞🔥🦋👊⛰️🏔️
Watch a bit of MotoGP, and you quickly realize how slippery paint is!
Only Sheffield fall. He is falling quite often in ITT
The tt bikes just do not handle like the road bike do. Yikes that had to hurt. Hopefully Magnus is ok. 🤞🦋😱
@ChrisHornerCycling True, but another example is Annemiek in the 2016 Olympics. Straight into an off camber, wet, and downhill corner. There are some great bike handlers in bicycle racing, but you don't have to be a great bike handler to win, aka Pinot. The problem is sometimes you need great bike handling skills.
Really enjoyed that thanks....got on the Scotty and turned my old legs inside out.... Brilliant! 😊✌️
Time for Tadej to coast with that time cushion and stay upright till the tour
He's already stated in interviews he wants to win queen stage
Yep. 👊🦋🚲
I seat in my chesterfield chair and I wonder why Chris put soo much emphasis on Team Ineos.
Chris Horner: “Face Off”
John Travolta and Nicolas Cage: “Oh not again.”
Hehehe. That one was bad one right. 😂🦋👊
Ganna.. 33.3 mph for us Americans .... smoking fast... I heard 460 watts avg
”Top Ganna” holds the World Hour Record: 56.792 km / 35.2... mph. He has the highest power numbers in time trial history, he is a BEAST!!
Yep. He was going fast out there. ⏰💨🦋🚲👊
yea tadej looks beat after his ride, but do you think he saved some in the tank for tomorrow?
Magnus wanted to see where he's at regarding Olympic TT. He got green light before the giro started to go full gas.
Yep. And that still doesn’t change a thing for me on this. I guess he likes to suffer. 🤷🏼♂️🦋😱👍
Does he not know that zone 2 is where the gains are made 😂
Top Ganna!
👊🦋
You left out Australian TT champion, Luke Plapp from your initial top 10. He did ok in the end.
Hehehe. My bad. I knew as I missing one and kept going through my head while I was doing the video and thinking someone is missing. Oh well. I tried 😱😜🦋👊
Congratulations to Ganna on his win Pogacar did well but for sure flat racing is not his favourite This guy with a balanced team will make it hard for all other riders
I wish him all of the best for the rest of the Giro
Fan from South Africa 🇿🇦
Bravo, Chris. Evviva evviva Ganna! E guarda però quello che ha fatto Tibieri. Il podio a Roma? Magari! G e Tadej sono pura classe
Well that would have been one to be there. To actually see as they flashed by. Anyone know what temp it was at start time and at finish?
Woooo
Woooo 💥👊🦋🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Top Ganna for the win!
This win will do Ganna a power of good, bring on the mountains!
Should it be better to release according to TT time than gc time if its tt stage
Bjerg is no doubt a certified knuckle head. All that wasted energy knowing there are two mountain stages coming. 😅
The team gave him a pass to go full gas so Tadej can have an idea on how to pace btw he was the only UAE that pulled
I just can’t wrap my head around why a rider would not take the rest day instead of a top ten. Every day of the week and twice before a stage like tomorrow. 🤷🏼♂️🦋👊
How about Foss and Sheffield then?
@@fabiovalentinuzzi5589 I guess they're all in the same category😊 Cycling in my view is just any other team sports. That while the lure of achieving individual accolades is strong, the teams ultumate goals should not be put aside. Just my piece.
with Pogi's time cushion, it's not as risky as it looks but nonetheless risky. They'll probably get away with it just fine tho
Damn average is +50km/h 😮, these riders are amazing.
Watching Magnus fall… again and again and again, ahem, did not feel great. And a gutsy performance from him! (Admitting he did misjudge that corner by quite a damn bit-in MotoGP, they call it "folding the front early")
Time and time again, guys come in too straight, and there's almost no way to fix it. Even if they don't crash, they scrub a load of momentum off their wheels.
@@rg807 Our man, who might have scrubbed d off a good quarter pound of flesh today, just wildly missed the apex and achieved epic strawberry status on his haunches. Twenty years from now, he shows it in a bar in Durango or Girona and everybody has a good laugh. Good on him!
That was nasty scrub job 😱🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Wasn't there an Italian cyclist named Luigi Ganna way back when? Maybe an ancestor?
🤔🦋
Yep, Luigi Ganna won the first Giro back in 1909. He's not related to Filippo, tho...
What are those funky flaps under the Ineos riders sun glasses/visors?
Air deflectors. A kind of faring.
Deflect the wind and make it go somewhere where it’s less drag in the rider. If they really work anyways. Some times the athletes are lied to by the sponsors. 🤔🦋😱👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling In the last few years cycling has accepted that drag is 3D not 2D. For years we were told to minimize cross-section area (by getting lower, and measuring with a silhouette). Finally we are seeing an understanding that cross-sectional area is a bad proxy - what counts is the 3D "cone of deflection" created by the rider, starting with the forward-most part. That's why hands have been moving up and up (along with elbows and arms). Riders now pay attention to how their fingers interlock. The "flaps" on the lenses are there to create a deflector cone for the chest.
Cycling has become as much a scientific/medical endeavor as a sporting one.
And today the top stage on paper. Do u think Pogadcar and Vinegard would destroy Froome and Contador?
Top Ganna got it by sheer power on a flat parts otherwise Pogi would've caught him. 4 Ineos dudes in top 10 today. Waking up early tomorrow to see how these guys' bodies hold up in thin air, to check out if any snow is left and most of all if someone will set Mortirolo record. Going with Bardet to be allowed to peel off.
Good chance that Bardet slip away. 🤔👍🦋
Mortirolo will be climbed on the easier side and it's gonna be the third ultimate climb of the day, no way anyone is gonna set any record there
❤
❤️🦋👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling so much emotional!! Ganna!! He is from Birmania - Lago di Garda!
One thing I am curious to see tomorrow. In the Tour de France Pogacar blew up on a difficult mountain stage the day after the time trial. The stage tomorrow features the Mortirolo, one of the most difficult climbs in cycling. How will Pogacar handle it? Granted there is no one else in this peloton who even comes close to his ability though.
It's the "easy" side of the Mortirolo, still a good one at 7.6% though and a nasty descent obviously
big time Wiinners :
GUNNER (little help 4 Chris)
Pogacar
HORNER
(who - again beats any live coverage by far❤)
Heatd eurosports experts claiming 35min flat out would be a good preparation for the upcoming mountain stage.
Speachless.
Bjerg is not a nucklehead today! Bjerg must deliver a good result in order to qualify for the Olympics in Paris. The Danish Federation has this demand 😁
Hang on !? Is not everybody doing the time trial? Can teams pick the riders who participate, or doe the first 25 in the general classification must ride the time trial? How does it work? Thank you very much, I was under the impression that everyone ride is in the time trial in order of their standing in the general classification - Last to First.
You are correct. Everyone has to start and finish. I pick only the riders that entertained us today the most. Except Plapp. I forgot Plapp today and he was solid. 😱🦋👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling Thank you very much for the clarification. I was under the impression that the teams could pick who they send in after the commentary. Good evening from SoCal - Cheers. Now I can go back to my Beer.
The ones not fighting for the win or GC just have no reason to go all out and waste energy. So most riders rides are also quite boring because they just aime for the timecut
@@l3monsquare296 Thank you. So all riders need to do the time trial. I was just not clear in this video. or my understanding in the video was not correct. Chris mentioned that "Why would you let the rider be part of the race"
"The race of truth", FLAT individual time trial.
⏰🚲🦋👊
Interesting how, aside from Pogacar, and Sheffield's unfortunate crash today, INEOS ruled the two long time trials. They did massive research on aerodynamics to help Ganna crush the hour record and it looks like it helped the whole team. But they need to find a race with a team time trial. This one ain't it.
A TTT would have been cool to watch play out. Sometimes they give to much advantage to the bigger teams though. ⏰🦋👊🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲
Tiberi. 3 syllables. Not 4. 😀 Tea-bear-E. Great commentary in every other way
I understand your argument that Sheffield shouldn’t have gone all out in the TT, but he is a young rider with the potential to win TTs in major races in the future. Aren’t these great opportunities for younger riders with potential to see where they stand against the best?
If Aresnman hadn't managed to lose almost 4 minutes in the first 2 days, things would look quite a bit different.
Yep. 😱🦋👍
I dont think Tobias Foss is 100% after his crash, but he needed to feel going fast. He needed to feel that he is regaining his strenght. And he is getting closer.
Are these guys on ineos gt excluded, under pressure by the team to act as markers for gt et al?
I don’t think so. Probably good TT sponsorship image though. 🤔🦋👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling then just a knucklehead as you rightly proclaimed
What is Milan doing in the hot seat with Pippo?
Supporting and chatting up his mate.
fellow italian supporting countrymen who was nervous. They were joking around as ganna said how being a sprinter is better because you know if youve won right away after short effort. ITT guys have long solo effort and he was waiting 2 hours : )
Two Italians that race track and are friends hanging out. 👊🦋
I have never been a fan of watching tt's . Never really understood the reason for them. After watching these and listening to you I think I have a better understanding but they still are not my favorite part of the tours. Looking forward to tomorrow's stage.
TT’s are very important in a grand tour. You’re truly on your own; it’s the race of truth. You can’t win overall GC, unless you’re an excellent climber and time trialist.
They never were my favorite either but they serve a purpose. And sometimes they can super entertaining such as last years TT that Roglic won. That was fun to watch when the riders have to change bikes. 🔥🦋👊⏰
When the crowds are huge and legs are good. Then I really like them. 😂🦋👊
Being in control of the Giro, is it possible Pog didn't give it everything he had to save gas? Just curious.
So I thought maybe he did but then when you see him in the tent after the race he was suffering still from the effort. So I through that possibility out. 😱🦋👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling Thank you. I don't know a ton about racing and was curious. He does seem like the type of guy who only knows one speed... full blast.
Sheffield ate it in eataly corner ("sponsored by Olive Garden"). Pogi seems to be very good on the sportsmanship. He seems happy when people perform well. It is hard to dislike him even though he is taking some fun out of the racing by being so strong.
Pogi is certainly easy to like. 👊🦋
So right, the positive mindset is special, maybe underrated by whatts maniacs
I agree that in terms of team tactics it is not ideal, but TT specialists, such as Bjerg, Sheffield and Foss are of course going to go full gas. I don't think it's reasonable to ask them not to. This is their speciality, today it's one of the most important TTs of the season for them and obviously they want to race. Besides, these guys do sometimes beat the outright favourites. Foss surprised everybody at his world championships. Bjerg surprised everybody at last year's Dauphiné. Sheffield had scored two straight podiums in TTs before today.
Yes, I understand what you're saying. However, consider also this: if Bjerg is not allowed to go full-gas in TTs, he's probably not going to stay in UAE.
Geraint Thomas was saying he only had a coupleof timecheck's, and has spoken before about radios not working czcams.com/video/NJpWbaka5Fg/video.html
Rosa and White Jersey 👍
Ineos except Ganna👎
Only Treat for Podacar is Bahrain Victorious Tiberi. Easy living for UAE
😜🔝❤️
Right. UAE got three extra rest day at this Giro so far thanks to Ineos and BV. 🤔🦋👍🛏️
Dramatic reporting as in real-time, Chris. Your straight-shooting frankness, road-proven expertise, & rib-poking analysis keep me a loyal fan.
Shouldn't Martijn Arensman (Thymen's dad) offer up a heartfelt apology to his son's trainer at this point? Or did this prove his point and Thymen rode himself back to form?
its stoopid that pogo can dump on ganna in the TT
Isn’t that Luke Papp in the seat with him?
Its Johnny Milan best sprinter and teammate from Italy road and velodrome Olympics team
Plapp was there in the first TT. 👊🦋
Ganna is the King on flat ITT. If Giro has TTT, may give GT more chances
👊🦋
Perhaps Pogacar is proving that the Giro is NOT as difficult as we are made to believe. Or Le Tour is certainly naturally more difficult. Or Pogacar has NO adversaries.
Tadej is just that good only GOD mode Jonas can beat him as history shown us
No adversaries and Ineos along with BV have helped out in three stages already so UAE have had less work. 🤔🦋👍
Another option he is much better and much more fit than 2023
Comment
the french can t time trial baudin is in the 10 ! and paret peintre up 1place in gc .where s the time trial tour ? njoygiro
Knucklehead count: 1
Some days it hurts to be a knucklehead.
😂🦋👊
Tiberi not Tibieri wtf
I guess Bjerg just enjoys time trials? And sense be damned? I enjoyed the kilo on the track, but sucked at it.
He must really love those TT. ❤️😂🦋👊
Chris Horner: Why don't those who dominate TTs in grand tours ( e.g. Tadej, Jonas, Chris Froome, etc. etc. and so on and so forth) ever win the WC TT? Guys like Ganna and, say, Fabian Cancellera are built bigger, so it stands to reason that they can exert more power over a certain period of time. Do the GC guys pass over TT WC's because they don't care? Also, aside from your huge hands, you seem to have a similar build to the likes of Tadej and Jonas. Why did you lose time in the TT when those mentioned dominate everyone except the beasts on bikes?
Chris uses a wide-angle lens, only a few feet away (or maybe 1.7m?); wait until he points back to his jerseys to see his hands return to "normal".🎉
Bjerg isno doubt a knuckle head😅 You are on point that there's absolutely no need going full gas knowing securing a dtage win is realistically a remote possibility specially when you are going into a mountain stage the following day. It makes totally no sense 😅
Remco was World Road and Tt champ in 2022.
And don’t forget Primoz Roglic won Olympic gold 4 yrs ago
Remco won last year but don t compare a rested TT specialist is too much for a GC. Rider
Lmao Romain Bardet lost so much time.
Chris the giro was over in one week, it’s a fu💩king snooze fest.. how can you even invest time watching a done deal. It’s kills grand tour racing interest.. it’s shit in my opinion, Only JV GT makes a competitive race these days.
What a shame Filippo Ganna rides for INeos !
Sometimes right. 🤔🦋👍
Well that would have been one to be there. To actually see as they flashed by. Anyone know what temp it was at start time and at finish?
