    The camera that mounts to the main camera is a cabin camera, for recording all that happens in the cabin, it is not a rear view camera for catching what happens outside behind the vehicle, they are three cameras for three different jobs and view points.

    I just purchased the 622GW with the rear window mount camera. I intend to install the rear window mount camera on my sliding rear window by routing the cable to the camera from the side the window slides to. I plan to have the cable outside the liner enough so that I can open the sliding windows and have the cable droop. When I close the window it should pull tight. I mainly open the sliding window to blow the hot air out when I first use my F250. Pretty much stays closed otherwise.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před rokem

      Could work. I was thinking the movement of the cable from the glass could cause the camera to swivel in the magnetic cradle.

  • @matrixate
    @matrixate Před rokem +1

    Good review, but how does the rear camera get power? Are there contact points on the base that the ball magnetically attaches on? No one seems to explain that. I like that you showed how the front camera gets power. You're the only person that actually explains it.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před rokem

    I could of sworn the fuses on the passenger side panel are the 2 prong( i could be wrong ) and there is a fuse for the cigarette lighter adapter and you can leave it like it is and be powered 24/7 or you can move it over a notch and it only work when the truck is on

    Great video, after watching I started to run the power from the camera end, like you tucking the led box in a convenient space then I was able to cut off all the excess once I reached the supply point rather than stuff excess cable behind the dash. If I hadn't watched this I would have done the same as you and started where picking the power up. Also helped my choose which rear view go go for.

    What about mounting that 3rd camera to the bumper near the license plate? I have a late model Silverado and just bought a dual dashcam setup. Didnt think about putting on the glass at the rear of the cabin. Thats much simpler than having to run the wire through the floorboard. The downside is limited view below the tailgate, eg. when someone is pulled up right on your bumper at a stop light or is tailgating you on the highway. Actually, after re-watching the last part of this video again, I think putting my rear camera INSIDE the cab, just as you have done will work just fine, with the added benefit of everything being inside the cab.

    Nice install! Poke and wrap over wire tap for me though. Those can be hit or miss, and when they hit, it still cuts the strands of the wire your tapping. I dislike that greatly. Anyway, I have 300ah of battery on board, so I'll wire to a constant source for 24/7 monitoring.
    Your review video helped make my decision on the 622gw, thank you for that video, and images. That's what sold me. Don't need a camera if you can't read the plates.

    That screen is huge to have on your windshield in your field of vision. It’s the size of a pocket camera from the early 2000’s. There are others with just as good of resolution with a much, MUCH smaller screen. Does that get in your way or bother you at all?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety +1

      You might be surprised, the placement is not restricting at all. The problem with producing a video is your seeing the camera’s perspective and not necessarily the driver’s. I am very picky and put a tremendous amount of thought on where I wanted it. Where it is works in my opinion. It is only 3” diagonal. The video probably does make it look like a Canon A60 point & shoot 😂. Thanks for watching

    Nice comparison video.
    Question for you - is there a way in which we can tap into the third brake light camera used for LCD rearview mirror of the GMC’s with technology package?
    It would likely be less obstructed and reduce the number of accessories attached to the inside of the window. Maybe one of the aftermarket dash-cam companies can look into a kit that allows us to tie into and use the existing cameras and simply record these signals for our record.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 3 lety +2

      It crossed my mind however there would probably need to be a inline conversion module to adapt the signal and adjust the resolution/aspect. I find it highly unlikely that an aftermarket company would make it in the near future. Be really cool though and I am okay with being wrong on this assumption

      Using your video as my guidance, I finished the install on my '20 1500 Denali. It took me about a half hour with most of the time spent on running the cable in the headliner. I was able to find an unused constant power 20A circuit using a 2 prong fuse located at the F5 position on the passenger side fuse box. I utilized the umbilical that was included within the Nextbase wiring harness. This saved me from tapping into the cigar (not a ciggy person) lighter.
