- My guitar cover of Roadhouse Blues by The Doors. Fender Stratocaster + DigiTech RP 80.
The preset of my RP 80 is: Pickup/Wah - OFF, Compressor - 7, Amp Model - U9, Noise Gate - G5, Chorus/Mod - OFF, EQ - b5, d6, t5, Delay - OFF, Reverb - S4. Guitar - I played the middle pickup, the tone knob in the position 10.
There is a collaboration video that was put together by The Arkwright Loft. I sent him my guitar track and he recorded the rest with his father. Check it out, they have done a great job:

Great man, just great, love those driving blues licks, but, hey, love everything by The Doors and Robbie Krieger anyway! You seem to have stripped it right down, I might even get a handle on it! You do have to keep it pretty tight for the vocals, but I reckon you can impro across the go down slow bit.....anyway, thanks, and don't forget, 'Mr Mojo Risin'.....is an anagram of Jim Morrison. he's out there.....somewhere.

Revisited this song this week. Thought I was making progress on improving the solo, that was I until I referred back to yours. You make it look too easy.
Don't worry, I am sure you will get this one right, it is not that difficult. If you are not comfortable with it yet, play it slowly. The important thing is to play it correctly, the speed doesn't matter, that will come itself eventually and you will play it all right. If you play it fast with mistakes right from the beginning, you will never get it right. Maybe I already told you that, but maybe not - download the VLC player. It lets you play the backing track in any speed you want without changing the pitch. That is extremely helpfull. I always do it this way whenever I start to learn some fast solo - I play the backing track slowly and play along, or I play along the slowed down original track, that helps even more.
No, you hadn't mentioned the VCL, but I do have an iphone ap called Tempo slow which does the same thing and also allows you to loop certain parts. The stupid thing is I don't use it often and I know I should. I wished I had taken your advice and applied it to Purple Haze. I find its quite difficult to unlearn a piece when getting it slightly wrong. Thanks for the advice, I will try and apply it, Sunshine of your Love is needing that approach I think!

Thank you! :-) On this one I didn't use any amp (didn't have my VOX back than). It is just a Digitech RP80 multieffect, which also simulates the amp.

Excellent cover! If I could make one suggestion, in the solo at 1:53 don't use an open E as it's slightly drowned out by the B and C#, do it further up the fret.

:-) Thank you! Robby is an incredible player. Saw him with Ray some 3 or 4 years ago and even though going to see them play the Doors stuff was mostly nostalgy, I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by his playing. I dare to say that he was technically way better guitarist than those 45 or so years ago. But I haven't seen him back then :-)
HappyStrat24 RK solos are generally amazing. And he played great licks at the right time. The People are Strange solo is priceless.

Yea, sure you can play it without effects, you actually shoud, the only reason I used my old multieffect here was that at that time I didn't have a mic to record my (back then brand new) amp - you can see the corner in the background, but it doesn't play in this song. This song is really about finding the right sweet amount of tube overdrive on your amp an maybe a little reverb, that's all :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the intro you play is wrong. I've always learned the walking part was slides from the 5th to 7th fret on the E and A strings.
if you watch live videos of Robby playing it, he plays it like in this video.

Yeah, that is another way to play it. As others observed, Robby himsels probably used more than one way to play it. I have actually tried both, this way I felt more comfortable with

...and speaking about Squires - some of them are great guitars, I have 2 - Strat and Tele (you can see them in some of my covers) and I really love them, specially the Tele. But hands down, this Fender Strat is my favourite one :-)
