- After North Korea abandoned a goal of peaceful reunification with Seoul, Kim Jong Un said he will annihilate South Korea and the U.S. if provoked. As tensions on the Korean Peninsula continue to soar, there are increasing concerns that Pyongyang could launch a surprise attack at any moment.
WSJ’s Timothy Martin goes inside Command Post Tango, an underground bunker complex outside of Seoul, where operations of U.S. and South Korean forces would be centralized during a war with the Kim Jong Un regime.

as a US infantry veteran, ive been in one of these bunkers on a training mission. Most people have no idea how prepared and how capable the south korean military is.
I guess as much as the afghan army they trained for 20 years?
that's reassuring
@@jonasdauerbrenner6432😂😂😂
until the war really breaks out, no one can know the true strength of an army. Afganistán is a good example.
Yup, the south is a serious disciplined and technology enabled military
0:35 In my Jeremy Clarkson voice: "We're being taken to a top secret military bunker, just outside Seoul, right off highway 420, and down route 69"
lol yeah this is total rubbiSH
Lol
😂😂😂
Geraldo Rivera is drawing a map of the complex for the audience.
You can actually see the command post on google maps
Both the American and South Korean generals had smirks of absolute confidence that it made me think they must know that their response to an invasion would be so overkill that what would have once been North korea would just be a new beach front where the yellow sea meets the sea of Japan
Was my first thought as well
Personally I think they’re underestimating North Korea. What happens if they launch most of their nukes on the US and South Korea during the war?
That was 70 odd years ago. North Korea is literally easily top 10 world army, sharing a border with China & Russia. Only fools think they could attack N. Korea & win. The smirk is that of ignorant overconfidence. This is catastrophic underestimation
i agree. this is all propaganda.
@fatmanjstyle5306 judging from what we're seeing in ukraine with Russia once regarded a super power I would suggest most of their weapon systems cnat keep up or work
that general having a 75th rangers combat patch tells you hes the real deal
Sshhhh, the kids are commenting and we don't want to hurt their feelings! 🤭
Cloth patch stops a nuke...ok. Don't you see NK is already at the big table were all the nuke owners sit... South Korea is eating at the kids table asking the parents can they go play.
Wagner mercenaries are better then usa army you got beat by sheep shepherds😂
@@ZeeJuqueit’s almost like we’ve fought them before, how’d that go for Wagner again?
@@ZeeJuquealso didn’t Russia also fight those sheep Shepard?😂
That Nat Geo drip goes hard 4:22
This is the biggest reveal of the video
It’s big in Korea
😂😂😂
Bro, but just see 5:17 the Lord of the Rings! The Swag is Insane! 😂😂😂
There's Discovery and CNN also
Kim really has that “Power Waddle” down.
Waddle of mASS Distraction....
North Korean Crip Walk.
The smile from the American and then later the South Korean commanders means they know something we dont
Good I do not want to know 🇺🇸 🇰🇷 🫡
They do. We the public always think we know everything, when in fact we know very little
They know a lot we don’t know
Profound😅
Oh gosh, ya think?
That weird constant smirk…
It’s just evil Kim jong un don’t want to end up like Haiti
i have southern family that does that, but it is maniacal in this context
“It’s a top secret location, we can’t film anything that would reveal its location”
*proceeds to film the car ride there*
and how do you know that it's the same location
You can see it on Google Maps if you know where to look and what you're looking for.
1:21 Holdddd up. Is that just a picture of Korea on Microsoft Powerpoint? 😂
Right most laptop*
1:18 "pretty phenomenal capability in here" 😅
@@saiskandapgs 🤣🤣🤣
It's a placeholder doing its job.
You use PowerPoint for presentations, this is fairly normal stuff. If you're giving a briefing, it helps to have visuals to go along, PowerPoint is perfect for that. Obviously the only thing on there is an unlabeled photo of Korea, what do you expect them to show? They knew journalists were going to be filming, they deliberately put something on there that is meaningless. You expect them to allow journalists to film what they actually normally look at?
spoiler alert.....15 seconds of the bunker........
yeah because they're going to show everyone everything inside their SECRET military bunker 😅
I know right total JUNK!
@@Tappy-toes-808sure, but then why include it in the video title
Dude, I love Bunkers!
@@rolandkeith5322 You're just jealous cause you still live with your mamma! 🤣
I asked myself why does this guy have a George bush smirk/smile goin on then i saw that Ranger scroll 😂
No one can ever be prepared enough for war without surprises. Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when weak.
I was there back in 2006 in that bunker. Awesome to see and be part of an excercise
Gen LaCamera was great as the XVIII ABC & CJTF-OIR Commander.
Smart man.
If you told me there was a secret underground base somewhere, that tunnel is exactly what I imagined
I found this story very interesting, I completed 5, 1 year tours in S. Korea between 1979 and 1992. Worked in three Command and Control Centers. Thanks for the update.
One tour and I too found it an interesting story.
Freedom Shield..fits!
Military threats are essentially the way North Korea begs for money and food.
Their Nuclear program is what keeps CIA regime change monkeys out.
North Korea is very poor country compared to the US even south Korea yet somehow they have nukes 😂
@@frozenlama23China & USSR 😶🌫️
man you really dont get how the world is played do you... LOL
its not NORTH KOREA begging and being conned.. its the American tax payers with their pants down sunshine...
north korean threat exits because the American machine needs it to exist so the MIC can bleed the tax payers and the south korean tax payers...
north korea is needed,,,
Kudos! You've been paying attention. NoKo is pathetic. What does NoKo have in common with the Moon? Their both cratered. (Soon)
I worked in that bunker, Tango Security. 2018-‘19.
Man at this rate we're all going to need bunkers.
best comment.
That or a Xanny Bar.
Yea people used to but now western governments effed there own people over
Bunkers can’t save yu from the world 👁️
Basically building a house underground. Everyone’s broke.
I literally did a search for command post Tango on the internet and there's an entire Wikipedia page on it it's in the songnam which is indeed south of Seoul
We used to use the range at CP Tango for weapons quals when I was stationed at Yongsan.
I've had a chance to visit that bunker before, and you do NOT want to be locked up in there for weeks, especially when you can only have 3~4 hrs of sleep per day...
Why 3-4 hours of sleep?
Gen. Paul was wayyyyy too excited to talk about those underground command and control centers lol
wait, is that the Stargate SG1 base ?
No, that's based on the Cheyenne mountain complex.
I thought in the thumbnail it was O'Neill standing and giving orders to Siler
maybe samsung helped build a stargate
Hahahahahahah SG1 yeah man what a classic
No, all the stargates are in North Vancouver (where it was filmed). I’ve seen SO many ‘other planets’ in my neighbourhood! 😂
Ranger! I need to know nothng more of the General!
I believe that any offensive by the North, although devastating, will ultimately fail as they simply have no food. An army marches on it's stomach.
Notice how the camera pans on the rocks to the left. And stays on it for a weird amount of time. This is a misdirection. The wall is likely painted foam, making it look like some sort of granite formation. Potential locations can be deduced by the prevalence of certain rocks, especially within a small country like South Korea. They intentionally approved the footage showing the "rocks" for public consumption. Clever stuff. "Deception is real."
I noticed that too. Who's to say they didn't film in two locations either? The intentional showing road signs in the beginning. It seems that there is a military member sitting in the middle of the back seat. Why would they unnecessarily specify a "mountain" bunker? I'd bet that where they are isn't even in South Korea.
Well US have nuclear submarines that go deeper than that, let's look it at that way
There are plenty of mountains in s Korea lol… and mountains are the best place for a bunker designed to withstand a nuclear attack. It’s also not a tiny country…
1:10 you can see how the floor+rock is uniformly damp… foam doesn’t absorb moisture like that
@@bzzzz2191 Still could be in a completely different location than that of the "bunker." Of course a mountain is the best place for a bunker, but that's exactly why you wouldn't put a top secret bunker there. Odds are that the average person knows about Cheyenne.
But, put that command center in Australia or Japan and you avoid being overrun by ground forces or other threats. It's all about deception.
10 years from now we're still going to be talking about the "possibility".
old mate isn't looking so well
The two Koreas is still at war, technically. Going on for 70 +years now
Genius take.
Because of America
North Korea vs. South Korea...wow, the world is going nuts.
Well we know it's south of Seoul because you took pictures of those road signs at the beginning of the video
I guarded this place when I served as an 11b. I remember exploring the whole thing and I was surprised how boring it was lol. There was a room hollowed out that was like the biggest box ever, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We weren’t allowed to have our phones inside the place and if you did there was no service anyway. I’ll never forget the conversations me and my team leader had while guarding that place..
Better get checked for cancer that place doesn't look like it has the best air
But thanks for serving
I don't think the marketing department at National Geographic looked up the purpose of camouflage before emblazing their bright gold logo on the back and sleeves of that jacket!
Camo is frequently used by naturalists in the field, to reduce observation by animals. NatGeo does a lot of that.
The American general here reminds me of George C Scott in Dr Strangelove.
general buck turgidson.
for me not really. he's missing the chewing gum. also, we don't know what his secretary looks like.
@@luiul1I thought of that also. I think his PR team told him no gum during the interview. I am sure his secretary is a young very hot Korean woman.
The inside of the bunker reminds me of the bunker in the Stargate series lol
@WSJ, US-Korea: HP is manufacture in ChongQing. It is better to blur the logos of the computers. If as a Chinese, Russian, Iranian, or PyeongYang agent, that's a prime target, knowing which computers are being used to run C&C ops. PyeongYang revealed their OS, that is, WinXP and Red Star OS.
Why let the competition know your operating system...?
i dont think they dont have an it department that authorize/check all those laptop used..furthermore i dont think the laptop connect to anything on the public internet..as the os, you would pretty surprise if you find anything up to date in a military computer..most of the os is already cleaned and verified..
@@kubotite9168 That wasn't the point, but your points are valid with regards to standard procedure nonetheless. Good.
Why showing this and not keeping it really secret ?!!
“Cyberspace” was a flex
What about those monitors showing a jpg of the Korean peninsula on Microsoft powerpoint LOL
You left the EXIF data in the video which has the exact coordinates of the location.
Roflol.
We go together
I used to man the secret door that’s inside a gas station off site. Super cool place
If that’s true, you just said something you shouldn’t have.
Village chief has cauliflower ear. Don't mess with him.
Yeah but hes not young anymore brother
"New Guard Posts" Thing looked like a freaking outhouse what do you mean lolol
Some guys on Reddit said that General has been overseas for an absurd amount of time.
Poor people, they live in fear. But fear is a great stimulator.
The ROC soldiers back in the late 80' were really good at their job.
they still are
Guess it's not a secret.
Served in 83-84 in the Air Cav. Don't remember much as I was drunk practically the whole year. Crazy year. Airmobile!!!!!
Secret revealed
It's propaganda
1:31 bro looking at a PowerPoint presentation with one slide😅 on multiple screens
I love how the new "guardposts" are basically kids playhouses 🤣
What makes you believe this isnt all a stage and set and fake to decieve the enemy?
When aren't tensions with North Korea high?
When Kim has a good haircut... so probably never.
Commanded CP TANGO Security Force 2003-2004...amazing place
My unit used to use the CP Tango range up the hill for weapons quals.
If it’s so secret then why are you in them?
Apparently this is where they filmed Stargate
Well it ain’t too secret anymore is it ? Next you’ll start showing all the top secret weapons . Good job 👍
I’m wondering if they have anti nuke missiles that they don’t talk about
Those are just regular interceptors and they have those
Anti-ballistic missile. The US got Patriot and THAAD. The latter which was deployed in 2017 or 2018 got the Chinese and North Koreans so furious.
I use to take UHF operators there for their Kripto, being a Nco at the time, i vast with many levels , cafeteria and cold year round
Not so top secret now
your calling it secret yet you just told us where its at nice one. Cheyenne mountain complex.
Says top secret and then shows the location 😅
Maybe it’s just a replica and not the real thing
DEAR GEN. LACAMERA,
I WATCHED YOUR TESTIMONY
IN CONGRESS A FEW DAYS AGO.
I WAS GLAD YOU ARE THE COMMANDER OF COMBINED FORCE
IN KOREA.
YOU LOOKED CONFIDENT WHICH IS
ASSURING. AS A BATTLE TESTED
SOLDIER, ROK AND US TROOPS
ARE READY FOR ANY CONFRONTAT-
ION.
I had the peace of mind of an old elementary school with the faded fall out shelter sign once but not anymore. That school closed. Oh well..
Why are South Korean armed forces commanded by an American soldier?
This is not normal
Man, I've been in that bunker many times. Cool freaking place.
Please define "top secret." please...
There are many levels of "secrecy". You just have to have a certain level of clearance to be allowed access.
같이 갑시다! We go together
That coat Kim has on is tighter on him than it was on cow😂😂😅!!!!
Why call something that your literally making a public video about "top secret"
I thought he was supposed to be in a coma back in 2018-2019
Didn’t know NK attacked those islands in 2010. What were the repercussions?
1:12 funny how they use a Korea map in PowerPoint as placeholder to hide their real secret applications 😂 I bet they all laughed about it during the filming
I find it funny how they are displaying the same exact image of Korea on all computer monitors lol!
It’s ain’t too secret no more
Well it isnt top secret now..
I find it funny how somebody leaked the exact location of it on Waze.
Wonder how far that tunnel goes down? Or how far it goes?
Dude legit only 45 seconds of inside the bunker
Top Secret oh lets just show everybody on the internet 🤣
then there are many similar bunkers where military products and technology is bought and sold day to day
4:32 I like how they gave him a camo jacket with huge white writing that says "NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC". So dumb.
man is villager, he isn't military person. Beside, Nat Geo brand is clothing brand spin off from Nat Geo (not actually owned by Nat Geo).
Pointless
If it were top secret, there wouldn't be a video
not so secret now
Was there for ulchi focus lens in 93 or 94
If it was top secret they wouldn’t let you film it 😂
1:29 I guess they have phenomenal capabilities with PowerPoint 😂
Very cool
Mans mouth is permanently lopsided from smirking so much
Not so secret anymore...
You gotta admit, the military capabilities of the U.S. is pretty impressive
I love this general. How often do you see a commanding officer with a tourniquet in his pocket?
First thought it was Cheyenne Mountain Complex.
It's essentially the Korean version of Cheyenne Mountain.
