    I agree that a roll cart is the way to go . One thing I would recommend is shops should have a caged area maybe 4 feet wide by 10 feet long or longer with wall and shelf storage for each mechanic to store extra tools hanging on the walls and on shelf’s instead of the big expensive boxes full of tools. That’s just my two cents anyway.

    HUGE thanks for producing this video. I am looking for a toolbox, and I was considering spending $4000-$8000.
    Instead I bought 3 cheaper Craftsman boxes, so I ended up getting 2x the storage space (more than I'll ever need)....and those boxes only cost me $999 each.
    Now I am looking for a nice roll-cart :)

    I wanted a big box for years, and I finally got one recently. I got a Snap-on 55" box for 30% of new price lightly used. I am not employed by a shop but it gets worked out of in a small space. I love it. I have a 32 year old Craftsman and a Harbor Freight roll cart that did the job before, but now they are overflow storage. I'll echo the sentiment- Cart and cheap box is the way to go for a big shop where you travel around a lot for sure. If you have your own bay or work in a small space, get a nice used American big box and a cheap basic drawerless cart to toss tools on for the day, and then put them all away at the end of the day in your big box after wipe down. NEVER pay full price or close for a new expensive American made box unless you are a made tech and have the money to burn. Buy cheap storage and MORE TOOLS!

    Pawn shops are a good hunting ground for name brand boxes. Patience is the key because after buying the box most pawn shops regret buying that monster box. Most pawn shops are dealing with a low budget market and the box takes up space and money. They will deal on that box if it sets around for months.

      @KoonTrucking  Před 4 lety +2

      K9 Cop first of all you are taking what I said out of context, I said if you work out of your box you better get a Snap On box. What we do with using roll carts a cheaper box can sit and hold tools since the box isn’t opened but one or two times a day. If your are going to put words in my mouth at least pay attention to what I actually say instead of try to stir up stuff when you don’t know me. I’ve never bashed Snap On toolboxes only the polisher and some of the crappy tools they sell. The video was to simply state since we use roll carts the high dollar boxes are not necessarily a need when they are just storage for overflow

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  Před 4 lety +2

      K9 Cop i really appreciate your deep concern for our financial status but frankly it’s none of your business how we spend money or the fact that I prefer to use a uniform company to look more professional for the public and also to keep my guys from having to wash uniforms and have grease and crap in their washing machines at home to ruin the clothes of their family especially with Bill having a brand new baby that maybe sensitive to the chemicals we come in contact with. If our purchases and our opinions seem to offend you so badly that all you have to do is come on here and troll us, why don’t you just do everyone a favor and unsub and not watch because I can assure you that you will not bother me one tiny bit my friend.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  Před 4 lety +2

      jovin Hamilton all taken out of context what people are saying or thinking we say. That’s because they don’t listen. I clearly said if you work out of the boxes daily u better have a Snap on box. We as you know work out of roll carts and hardly use the big boxes so, they aren’t needed like they would be if we work out of them daily.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  Před 4 lety +1

      carlton colvin you too are taking what I said out of context to try and get something stirred up that isn’t there. I clearly stated if you work out of your box you need to have a snap on box. If you work out of a roll cart you need to have a Snap on. I said if you do like we do and work out of a roll cart and only use your box for overflow storage and tools you don’t use on a regular basis then it is not worth the money when you may not even open the box 1-2 times a day. This video wasn’t done to bad mouth or bash snap on boxes but to show the worth if you use them. Why would anyone want to encourage (especially a young tech or someone just starting out) to spend a bunch of money on a toolbox when they need to invest that into themselves by buying the tools they need to make money with. If they work out of a roll cart then it would be wrong to tell them to spend thousands of dollars on a snap on box. You need to help guide people in the right direction that may not know and give them the pros and cons and let them decide. Everyone wants to get judgmental and start drama when everything I stated in this video is truth and fact. That’s like asking someone to buy a brand new truck that doesn’t even drive it but 10 miles a month that’s insane. I realize to some drama is fun and stirring the pot is awesome but everything said in the video was opinions based on how we felt and what we look back on after spending the money we have already invested. If you want to put words in my mouth at least listen to what was actually said in the first place. I’ve never bashed Snap On boxes and only very few tools. Snap On boxes are the best boxes made, but that doesn’t justify the price of them if you DO NOT WORK OUT OF THEM DAILY and it is nothing more than a cabinet to hold tools such as specialty stuff you rarely use.

  • @BassWhoopinFishingTeam

    Too many people think cordless ratchets are supposed to break the fastener free. That’s not what they were designed to to. You have to manually break it free then spin it out and vice versa to install it. If you want nut busting torque for breaking free get a right angle impact. I love my CT861 and my CTR861 phenomenal tools.

But then again I can see where Bill is coming from with the power issues they work pretty good for me because the majority of my work is on towmotors however when I work on our loaders big trucks etc it don't have the power you would think it should. I love my tools but sometimes I can't help but go back to a good old fashioned ratchet and a wrench

    I bought a Snap On storage box, but it is the one and only box I will ever have to buy as a homeowner. I know it will withstand any moves I make, and so for that reason alone, I chose to go Snap On. The other nice thing is the ability to get the drawers you want when you order a box, and not wind up with a bunch of small drawers or not enough small drawers depending on your preference. I would agree that if it was only ever going to sit in a corner, then maybe you might get away with it for a while, but I think even just as storage, that eventually the slides are going to give way. Maybe the better suggestion would be to buy a quality used box from your dealer vs new, because while it is not as cheap money wise, it is also not nearly as cheap build quality wise.

    I’ve got a 60” SnapOn Epiq with hutch and side locker. I bought mine off OfferUp for 8k. Still a lot, but a hell of a lot less than getting it off the truck. I have a Sunex cart, but our shop doesn’t have room for me to have it there. At my last job, I had a Kobalt box along with my cart. The box is at my house now, but it was t built well enough to hold what I had in it.
    I love my Epiq and hope to pass it down to my son one day. I do agree that if it all it does is sit there for overflow, spend money on a good cart. But if you’re patient and look around, you can find good deals on truck brand boxes.

If I'm working away from my lift then I load up my harbor freight cart so I'm obviously not working back and forth but for the size of my box and the price I paid I can't imagine there's a box out there that could beat that deal

    I totally agree with having a good roll cart, sliding top is a plus. I have the big 6 drawer SnapOn flip top roll cart and it is packed full, still organized, 2 years no complaints. I have the 54" Master Series that I used solely as every day roll around as I worked in a shop that was big enough to do so. Now use it for storing that stuff that doesn't get used as often or just takes up a lot of room. Stupid purchases? Hutch for the Master Series. It is swell being able to lock up my flashlight and battery chargers (stainless powertop) but that big purchase payment isn't. I have the same snap on cordless ratchet, unimpressed. Already had to pay to have it repaired once, no power, glad I still have my 1/4" and 3/8 snap on air ratchets.

    I agree on getting quality when needed. I worked out of a US General series 1 box forever. Slides weren't that good to start with and got worse as time when on. Also the struts started leaking on the top box. Bought a Snap on Epiq box to replace it and am totally happy I did it. Now I work out of it and only use a cheap roll cart when I am underneath a vehicle. Why not pull your boxes off of the wall and closer to the pull thru ally so you can work out of your boxes?

      Just too hard to move them around the shop job to job so the way our shop if laid out a roll cart is perfect. When we have a shop full the roll cart can be a challenge to move around honestly.

  • @erictrimmer4338
    @erictrimmer4338 Před 4 lety +1

    I can see your point about a cart verses a large box. However I think it depends on the nature of your work. I work in a race fabrication and performance shop. Most of the time I work from my box and use it as a bench. But we are not on flat rate or a high volume shop. I have a smaller roll cart and it is primarily my overflow and catch all.
