    Hi guys, please correct me if I am wrong. I'm in the custom menswear business myself. So made to measure is when I take your measurements and make the suit based on those measurements, keeping in mind the suit is made from completely scratch. You can customize your lapels, buttons, and vents and jacket linings. You can do all of this in a bespoke suit, but the major difference is that in bespoke suit, there are 3 - 4 fittings involved. Like the first fitting they put the skeleton fitting in which the fabric is just made for your body but still needs more alteration. Then there are 2 - 3 more fittings involved, that's why process is much longer and could cost arm and a leg depending on where you buy it from. Where as in made to measure, it's based on the measurements that you've given the tailor. And the suit is made based on those measurements. Hope this clears things out. Thanks!

      this is not exactly right. Made-to-measure is not made completely from scratch; you are confusing that with bespoke, which is made completely from scratch. A made-to-measure suit is based on pre-existing models that a clothing brand sells. Customers pick out which model of suit they like best, then they can pick out certain parts of the suit that are customizable, such as fabric, pattern, buttons, lining, etc. However, I have never seen a suit brand's made-to-measure service that lets you customize your lapels; those are already predetermined based on the model you select and cannot be changed. Also the major difference is not that there are more fittings involved. The major difference is that bespoke is completely customizable and each bespoke suit is truly unique to the client and the suits are made to each clients EXACT measurements. Bespoke suits are not made from pre existing designs.

      +Cristian Reyes thanks for the clarification, so what would you call a company that takes their customers measurements. About 14 of them and then the customer chooses the type of lapel they want, buttons, If they want single or double vents. Now the customer chooses a fabric and the company creates a suit based on those measurements. Then the company delivers the suit. I'm in that business, and the reason I don't call our business a bespoke is simply because there are no fittings involved. Indochino is similar to my company as well and they are made to measure where they claim the suit is made from scratch based on the customers body measurements. Looking forward to hearing back.

      I do think your company is a made-to-measure company. I guess i was being a little semantical when you said that made-to-measure is made from scratch because that is usually not the case. To me "made from scratch" means the design is completely original and unique and not based on any pre-existing model or design. I also misunderstood your statement about customizing the lapel. You are correct, made-to-measure allows you to chose the type of lapel, but not the width. So if i was doing a made-to-measure suit and I wanted to make the lapel 4" instead of 3", i wouldn't be able to do that because usually that aspect of a suit is not customizable on a made-to-measure suit.

      Correct. MTM is customizable with the options you are given. Bespoke lets you decide everything from the width of the lapels to even where the notch will be.

  • @thomasoeler5157
    @thomasoeler5157 Před 5 lety

    most important, real bespoke is all hand stitched and mtm is machine stitched... so in the end, bespoke is much more quality if its done right

    You guys explained made to measure really well but barely talked about bespoke. What do you mean they make a new pattern for you? Can you clarify the bespoke process and how its different to made to measure?

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  Před 8 lety +2

      Meaning you can adjust various lengths and widths on a made to measure suit but there are somethings you don't have much control over. With bespoke everything from the rise of the pants, to the height of the armholes is adjusted and fitted perfectly to your body via a personal suit pattern cut directly from your own measurements.

      Made to measure is to the exact measurements of a person. Bespoke is the usage of various different types of fits for the garment to be close to perfection. When it comes to options (single or double breasted, one or a 6 on 2 closing, slim or classic fit, etc.) they are both the same, you choose on how you want your garment to look.

      Bespoke comes from the term "Bespoken". Back in the day a tailor would make a suit from a single roll of fabric, for one person, and that was it. If another customer were to ask for the same, they'd tell them it's "been spoken for". Essentially Bespoke is the gold standard of suiting. Everything is hand made to the exact specifications of the individual. From the way one stands, to the way your left or right shoulder slopes, every aspect of the body is factored in, and the suit is cut accordingly.

      @davidholly42 Před 7 lety

      Bespoke takes several fittings and the suit is made specifically for you and can take several weeks or months. Bespoke is for the man who is meticulous and only wants the best...there is no compromise.

      conradwasalski4200 bespoke is a Whole other animal.
      It is a MASTER. Tailor who takes a roll of fabric and hand makes every single thing about the suit for you and it also takes months and months with several fittings..
      To be a bespoke tailor takes over 8 years of training and it usually starts at a very young age. It is a masters art. Not just alterations.

    Something I don't agree with what you said is that a lot of bespoke suit, once you get measurement they have the pattern and they don't always have to remeasure either. Just like how John lobb has a bunch of lasts of people who died they keep your pattern

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  Před 8 lety

      You're right, if you bought many bespoke suits around the same time they would use the same pattern and your cost would go down a bit. They would still build each suit around you however and still need you there for each individual fitting.

      +Gent's Lounge yeah true. was just saying that they wouldn't just throw the pattern out like that.

    $200 on alterations? lol I get my whole suit altered for $50.. at most. don't go to men's warehouse. support your local mom n pop shop. and don't waste your money on taking off half an inch of your suit.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  Před 8 lety +1

      Very true. $200 was obviously the high end of things.

      William Lopez what alterations are you getting for $50.00? A hem ?

  • @Jaallam
    @Jaallam Před 8 lety

    One cheesy question.
    Could you buy back the pattern from your bespoke tailor and give it to any other suit maker to make you suits for cheaper based on your best pattern?

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  Před 8 lety

      It wouldn't work like that because any other suit maker will make a suit from their patterns and adjust it to you if that makes sense. When they take your measurements they just tailor the adjustments on their already made patterns.
